Abstract

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and acupuncture are treatments forinflammatory pain. The purpose of this study is to see the effectiveness of mefenamic acid, adrug from the class of NSAIDs compared with acupuncture therapy in 24 male Wistar rats thathave received intraplantar induced of carrageenan. The experimental animals are divided intosix groups: pain control group, mefenamic acid group, before-induction acupuncture group,after-induction acupuncture group, before-induction mefenamic acid-acupuncture combinationgroup, and after-induction mefenamic acid-acupuncture combination. Inflammation and painassessment with inflammation volume and pain threshold parameters tenderness is done every60 minutes during 6 hours after induction of carrageenan. The results of animal studies showthat the combination of mefenamic acid - acupuncture before induction (inflammation inhibitionvalue of 40.24%; pain inhibition value 8.95%) shows a significantly smaller value (p <0.05) inreducing inflammation and increasing the pain threshold compared to single mefenamic acidgroup (inflammation inhibition value 58.53%; the pain inhibition value 29.09%) and singleacupuncture therapy before induction (inflammation inhibition value 78.04%; the paininhibition value 23.07%). It happens because mefenamic acid inhibits the action of acupunctureas an analgesic. This study concludes that the administration of mefenamic acid degrades theeffectiveness of acupuncture therapy in addressing inflammatory pain. Keywords: acupuncture, mefenamic acid, carragenaan, analgesic, antiinflammation

Abstract

Colorectal cancer is the third most common type of cancer in the world. Chemotherapy is one of the treatments for colorectal cancer with the most widely used regimens known as FOLFOX and FOLFIRI. One of the most common side effects of chemotherapy from these two regimens is leukopenia. This study aims to examine the characteristics of age, gender, use of the regimen, the decrease in the leukocyte value of each regimen and the difference in the decrease in the leukocyte value from the use of the FOLFOX and FOLFIRI regimens. This research is an observational study, which was carried out retrospectively with total sampling and quantitative descriptive analysis. The data was taken from medical records of colorectal cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy with the FOLFOX and FOLFIRI regimens at one of Bandung Private Hospital for the 2021 period. The results of this study showed that colorectal cancer patients were most dominant at the age of 56-65 years as much as 50% and suffered by mostly male patients as much as 64.3% with the use of both regimens in the same amount, that is 50% each. After undergoing the first chemotherapy, there was a significant decrease in leukocyte values in both regimens. The mean percentage reduction in leukocytes with the use of FOLFOX was 19% and FOLFIRI was 28%, but statistically, the decrease in leukocyte values in the two regimens was not significantly different.

Abstract

Unit Dose Dispensing (UDD) is drug distribution for one dose per patient. UDD can reduce drug interactions because pharmacists monitor it. This study aims to determine the percentage of drug interactions related to scheduling, the severity of interactions, and the most drug interaction pairs. This type of research is observational study conducted retrospectively using purposive sampling of prescriptions and UDD Medication List inpatients at one of hospital in Bandung city in February 2022 and analyzed quantitatively-descriptively. Data processing using drug interaction checker software. Data analyzed based on the incidence of drug interactions, the accuracy of scheduling, the severity, and the most drug interaction pairs. The results were still found drug interactions in 73 patients (43,98%) (n=166) consisting of 194 drug interactions, 113 events (58.25%) the UDD schedule were correct and 81 events (41.75%) were not. Based on the severity level, in all prescriptions with drug interactions, the moderate level was 63.40%, the minor level was 25.26%, and the mayor level was 11.34%. Meanwhile, in 81 events with incorrect schedule, the moderate level was 52 events (64.20%), the minor level was 19 events (23.46%), and the mayor level was ten events (12.35%). The most common interaction was aspirin-clopidogrel with moderate severity.

Abstract

Candlenut oil and olive oil have been discovered to promote hair growth. This experimental study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a combination of candlenut oil and olive oil on the length of hair in male rabbits. The experiment involved two male rabbits, with four areas on their backs shaved to apply the test solution, each area measuring approximately 3 cm x 3 cm and spaced 2 cm apart. Hair samples were collected by shaving six strands of hair from each area on the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th, and 18th days. The treatment groups were divided into a negative control group that received no intervention and test groups that were treated with either candlenut oil alone, olive oil alone, or a combination of candlenut and olive oil. The results of the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p ≤ 0.05), indicating a significant difference among the groups. A post hoc test was conducted to determine the group with the best hair length statistically, and it was found that the group receiving candlenut oil had the highest mean rank value, followed by the olive oil group, and then the combination of candlenut and olive oil group.

Abstract

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disorder of carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism which is characterized by increased blood glucose levels. The existence of DM as a public health problem is increasing globally. This experimental research was carried out to determine the activity of a combination of rosella flower infusion and cinnamon bark on blood glucose levels in male mice that had been induced by alloxan. After ensuring that the blood glucose level of the mice was >175 mg/dl, 4 groups were tested, namely test group 1 was given a single rosella flower infusion, test group 2 was given a single cinnamon bark infusion, test group 3 was given a combination of rosella flower infusion and stem bark cinnamon, and the control group were given aqua destillata. Based on the results of the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric statistical test, it shows a value of p = 0.009 (p £ 0,05), which means there is a difference in the reduction in blood glucose levels between the test groups. Then, to determine the greatest decrease in glucose levels, a Post Hoc test was carried out and the highest mean rank value was obtained (13.00) in the infusion group of the combination of rosella flowers and cinnamon bark, followed by the cinnamon bark infusion group (5.80), and the rosella flower infusion group (5.20).
