Abstract

Mathematics lessons are often considered as frightening learning material for most students. In the view of students, mathematics is considered a complex subject because it involves various confusing formulas and concepts. The existing facts that occurred in the even semester of the 2022/2023 academic year, based on the results of the initial test given to grade IV students of SDN 4 Jeumpa on the Geometry and Measurement learning material were still very low, namely out of 18 students, only 1 (5.5%) student got a score of 80 or had reached the KKM, while 94.4% of students' level of mastery of the material given was still low. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research approach. Data collection techniques in this study are tests and observations. The tests conducted were pretest and posttest. The questions given in the pretest and posttest were 5 descriptive questions. The data analysis technique used is descriptive data analysis, namely data obtained from the pretest and posttest. From the research results that have been obtained, it can be concluded that there has been an increase in students' ability to solve measurement problems with the help of the use of teaching aids, namely an increase of 72.3% of students who have been able to solve the problems given related to measurement material.

Abstract

Mathematics learning interest at the primary level is widely recognized as a key determinant of students’ long-term achievement and attitudes toward the subject, making its early development an urgent educational priority. This study addresses the low level of mathematics learning interest among fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 7 Kuala Batee. An initial survey indicated that limited enthusiasm for mathematics hindered students’ understanding of basic concepts, largely due to monotonous teaching methods with minimal student engagement. To overcome this issue, the Snakes and Ladders game was introduced as a learning medium, grounded in constructivist theory and prior findings on play-based learning. Employing a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, the study involved 12 students. A Likert-scale questionnaire on learning interest, tested for validity and reliability, was used as the instrument. Results revealed an increase in mean scores from 72.50 to 82.42, with a paired-sample t-test showing significance at 0.000 (<0.05). Student interest categories also improved, with four students achieving the “very high” level and eight in the “high” category after the intervention. Despite limitations related to the absence of a control group and small sample size, the findings suggest the potential of game-based approaches to foster engagement in mathematics learning. This study contributes novelty by empirically demonstrating the effectiveness of Snakes and Ladders as a culturally relevant, low-cost, and interactive medium to enhance primary students’ interest in mathematics.

Abstract

Learning motivation is a crucial component that determines students’ academic success, particularly in subjects such as mathematics, which are often perceived as difficult and less appealing. The low level of students’ motivation in mathematics is one of the key factors contributing to the insufficient attainment of basic competencies at the elementary school level. Therefore, innovative approaches are needed to effectively enhance student engagement and enthusiasm for learning. This study aims to analyze the effect of using Wordwall-based educational games on elementary school students’ motivation in learning mathematics. A quantitative approach was employed with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The research subjects were 30 fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Jeumpa, selected through a total sampling technique. The data collection instrument was a validated learning motivation questionnaire with high reliability. Data were obtained through measurements conducted before and after the implementation of learning using Wordwall. The results of the analysis, using a paired sample t-test, revealed a significant increase in students’ learning motivation (p < 0.05), with the mean posttest score being higher than the pretest score. Most students who were initially categorized at a moderate level showed improvement to high and very high categories after the treatment. These findings indicate that the use of Wordwall contributes positively to enhancing students’ learning motivation in mathematics. This study provides novel evidence of the potential of game-based learning platforms, particularly Wordwall, in fostering motivation in mathematics learning, an area that remains underexplored in the Indonesian elementary school context. The study recommends the integration of Wordwall as an innovative strategy to increase student engagement, with further development focusing on cognitive aspects and learning outcomes.

Abstract

Community Service Lecture (CSL) activities are an integral part of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, especially in the aspect of community service. This program was implemented by STIT Muhammadiyah Aceh Barat Daya in 2023 in two locations, namely Central Aceh Regency and Southwest Aceh Regency, with the theme "Strengthening the Values of Religious Education, Health, and Economic Empowerment Based on Community Service." The main objective of this activity is to improve the quality of life of the community through strengthening religious values, health awareness, and economic empowerment based on local potential. The implementation method includes a participatory approach involving village officials, religious leaders, health institutions, and government agency partners, including the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) in implementing the DASHAT (Healthy Kitchen to Overcome Stunting) activity. The results of the activity show that (1) in the field of religious education, there has been an increase in public understanding and participation in religious activities; (2) in the health sector, people are more aware of the importance of clean living behavior and balanced nutrition; and (3) in the field of economic empowerment, the community is able to develop small business skills based on local products. In addition, collaboration with the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) through the DASHAT program has had a significant impact on increasing family nutrition awareness and preventing stunting at the village level. Overall, the implementation of KPM 2023 successfully integrated religious, health, and economic values into sustainable community service activities. This activity not only provides direct benefits to the community, but also serves as a social learning medium for students to develop empathy, leadership, and social responsibility as future Muslim intellectuals with a spirit of service.

Abstract

Numeracy is the ability to apply number concepts and arithmetic operation skills in daily life, professional development, and the development of science and technology. Numeracy skills play an essential role in the application of number concepts and arithmetic operations in the context of everyday life. This research aims to determine the numeracy skills of class VIII-B students at SMP Negeri 1 Blangpidie in solving problems on geometry and measurement material. The data collection methods used were tests and interviews. From the research results, of the total 27 students involved, 22 students showed very high numeracy skills, reaching a percentage of 81%. Meanwhile, five other students have a high level of numeracy ability, with a percentage of 19%. The level of numeracy ability of class VIII-B students is assessed based on student indicators in solving problems on geometry and measurement material. It can concluded that the numeracy skills of class VIII-B students in solving geometry and measurement material problems have perfect numeracy scores.

Abstract

In this era of globalization, the low mathematics learning outcomes of students at the high school level, especially at SMAN 6 Aceh Barat South, are caused by the fact that in the learning process, teachers only focus on using less competent methods, so students get bored easily. The purpose of this study is to determine the completeness of student learning outcomes through Problem-Based Learning on Arithmetic Rows and Series Materials. This research is classified as a classroom action research that is carried out in two research cycles. In each research cycle, there are 4 stages consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data collection in the study was carried out using the test method. The data obtained in the study were then analyzed by analytical descriptive analysis techniques and qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of the study showed that the average student learning outcome in the pretest was 65.4 and increased in the post-test, which was 70.9. Based on these results, it can be seen that there is an increase in student learning outcomes in each cycle. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of the problem-based learning model can significantly improve the mathematics learning outcomes of high school students.
