Abstract

Peanut plants require Nitrogen nutrient content to increase plant growth and maximum production. Increasing nitrogen nutrients in the soil can be obtained through the addition of organic fertilizers. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of organic fertilizers (burnt rice husks and chicken manure) on NO3- nutrient levels in peanut plants, to determine organic fertilizers (burnt rice husks and chicken manure) that will provide the highest NO3- nutrient levels in peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea L.) and to determine the correlation between NO3- nutrient levels with the growth and yield of peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea L.). This study was conducted from September to November 2022 in Toto Utara Village, Tilongkabila District, Bone Bolango Regency. The study used a Randomized Kelompaok Design (RAK) consisting of 3 treatment levels, namely P0 = without organic fertilizer, P1 = chicken manure 3kg/plot, and P2 = burnt rice husk fertilizer 3kg/plot. Each treatment was repeated 4 times so that there were 12 units/plot. The results of this study indicate that organic fertilizers have a significant effect on NO3- nutrient levels with NO3- nutrient levels in the chicken manure treatment of 0.89 (ppm) and in the burnt rice husk fertilizer treatment of 0.61. There is a strong and very strong positive linear correlation between plant height, number of pods, seed weight per plant, and seed weight per hectare with NO3- nutrient levels.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) made from gamal leaves, banana stems, and banana peels as a source of NPK on the growth of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) and determine the most effective POC dose. The research was conducted in Pulubala Village, Gorontalo City, from June to August 2023, using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 10 replications and 4 treatments: P0 (control, without POC), P1 (gamal leaf POC 120 ml + banana stem 70 ml + banana peel 100 ml), P2 (gamal leaf POC 70 ml + banana stem 100 ml + banana peel 120 ml), and P3 (gamal leaf POC 100 ml + banana stem 120 ml + banana peel 70 ml). Observed parameters included plant height, leaf count, stem diameter, and fresh weight. The results showed that POC application had a significant effect (α=5%) on plant height at 28, 35, and 42 days after planting (DAP), leaf count at 35 and 42 DAP, and fresh weight. However, it had no significant effect on stem diameter. Treatment P1 (gamal leaf 120 ml + banana stem 70 ml + banana peel 100 ml) yielded the best results in all significant parameters, with average plant height of 42.17 cm (42 DAP), leaf count of 14 leaves (42 DAP), and fresh weight of 37.77 g.

Abstract

Water hyacinth is one of the organic materials that can be used to increase the organic matter content of the soil. The high organic matter content is expected to improve soil properties, particularly the soil's ability to retain water, thereby increasing water availability in the root zone. Increased water availability is a consequence of the high ability of water hyacinth organic matter to bind water, as well as the enhanced ability of the soil to infiltrate water due to the creation of good soil porosity. High water infiltration will reduce the amount of water flowing over the soil surface, potentially causing soil degradation due to erosion. It ultimately will increase water availability in the root zone. This Community Service activity aims to transfer the technology of utilising water hyacinth to increase water retention in the root zone of plants to farmers. Community service in the field is carried out through counselling and demonstrations of water hyacinth application in plantations. The results obtained indicate that the transfer of technology using water hyacinth to enhance water retention is acceptable to farmers, suggesting that the community service program can be considered a success. Farmers are very optimistic about applying what they have learned from this community service activity, as they believe the technology is straightforward to use in the field.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the role of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes Mart.) organic matter on water retention at pF 2.54 and pF 4.2, available water content, and bulk density (BD). The research method used was a factorial randomized block design. The first factor was the sorghum variety, which consisted of 2 levels, namely, V1 (variety) and V2 (Kawali). The second factor was the dose of water hyacinth organic matter, which consisted of 5 levels, namely P0 (without the application of water hyacinth organic matter), P1 (10 tons.ha-1), P2 (20 tons.ha-1), P3 (30 tons.ha-1), and P4 (40 tons.ha-1). Water retention was measured at pF 2.54 and pF 4.2 using a pressure plate apparatus and pressure membrane apparatus, respectively, and BD was measured using the ring method. The results showed that the treatment of organic matter application and varieties had a significant effect on water retention at pF 2.54, available water content, and BD with the best treatment of 40 tons of organic matter application and Kawali variety, but not affecting water retention at pF 4.2. There was no interaction between water hyacinth organic matter and sorghum varieties to improve water retention and BD. The highest water retention at pF 2.54 was 32.24% (P4), and the highest available water content was 11.67% (P4) but not significantly different from P3 (11.55%); the lowest BD was 1.11 g.cm-3 (P4) but not significantly different from P3 (1.13 g.cm-3). A very strong positive linear and negative linear correlation exists between available water content and BD with plant height, panicle length, and sorghum yield.
