Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis perbedaan keaktifan dan hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran Pemeliharaan Sasis dan Pemindah Tenaga Kendaraan Ringan di SMK Negeri 5 Padang melalui penerapan model Discovery Learning dan Direct Instruction. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain kuasi-eksperimen pretest-posttest control group. Sampel berjumlah 58 siswa yang dipilih secara purposive, terdiri atas 27 siswa pada kelas eksperimen dan 31 siswa pada kelas kontrol. Hasil belajar diukur menggunakan tes pilihan ganda, sedangkan keaktifan siswa dinilai melalui lembar observasi. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif dan inferensial, dengan uji Mann-Whitney U karena data tidak berdistribusi normal. Rata-rata keaktifan kelas eksperimen mencapai 78,33%, lebih tinggi daripada kelas kontrol sebesar 64,17%. Nilai rata-rata posttest kelas eksperimen juga lebih tinggi, yaitu 85,6 dibandingkan 81,4. Meskipun kedua kelompok memperoleh N-Gain kategori sedang (0,459 dan 0,418), perbedaannya tidak signifikan (Asymp. Sig. = 0,154; p > 0,05). Namun, Discovery Learning menunjukkan kecenderungan meningkatkan keaktifan serta hasil belajar siswa. This study compared student engagement and learning achievement in the Light Vehicle Chassis Maintenance and Power Transmission course at SMK Negeri 5 Padang using Discovery Learning and Direct Instruction. A quantitative quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control-group design was employed. Fifty-eight students participated, including 27 in the experimental group and 31 in the control group. Learning achievement was measured using multiple-choice tests, while engagement was evaluated through classroom observation sheets. Descriptive and inferential statistics were applied. As the data violated the normality assumption, the Mann-Whitney U test was used for hypothesis testing. The experimental group achieved higher engagement (78.33%) than the control group (64.17%) and a higher mean posttest score (85.6 versus 81.4). Both groups demonstrated moderate learning gains, with N-Gain values of 0.459 and 0.418, respectively. However, the difference in achievement was not statistically significant (Asymp. Sig. = 0.154, p > 0.05). Nevertheless, Discovery Learning increased classroom engagement and showed a consistent tendency toward better academic performance overall.
