Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is characterized by the reduced ability of insulin responses, leading to difficulty in processing blood sugar. It is caused by a combination of two main factors: damaged insulin secretion by pancreatic beta-cells and the inability of insulin-sensitive tissues to respond to insulin. Blood sugar monitoring in T2DM is done by measuring glycated hemoglobin or Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). Insulin Like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) is the primary mediator of growth hormone known to play a pivotal biological role in growth and metabolism. This study aims to analyze the relationship between HbA1c levels and serum IGF-1 levels in T2DM patients. The method used was observational analytic with a cross-sectional design. There were 60 T2DM patients involved as research subjects consisting of 26 males and 34 females. HbA1c examination was carried out using the Boronete Affinity Assay, while IGF-1 examination was performed using the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) sandwich method. The statistical analysis results showed that the average value and standard deviation of serum IGF-1 levels in controlled T2DM was higher (5740.23±4320.60 pg/mL) than that of uncontrolled T2DM (4843.18±3375.63 pg/mL), showed no significant difference (p=0.462) and no correlation between HbA1c and serum IGF-1 levels in T2DM subjects (r=-0.005 p=0.972). It was concluded that there was no significant relationship between HbA1c levels and serum IGF-1 levels in patients with T2DM.

Abstract

Plants have several ways to protect themselves from bacteria, one of which is by producing compounds that are toxic or repellent to bacteria. Compounds produced by plants are known as secondary metabolite compounds which originate from secondary metabolic processes. Several secondary metabolite compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, steroids and terpenoids are currently widely used as antibacterials. One of the plants that has the potential to be developed as a herbal medicine is kaffir lime leaves. Citrus hystrix is ​​the part of the plant most often used by the public. Both for cooking and traditional medicine purposes. In this research, it is hoped that lime peel extract can act as an antibacterial for Escherichia coli and staphylococcus aereus, so that it can be used as a herbal plant for diseases caused by these two bacteria. In the research, the concentrations used for each test bacteria were 50%; 25%; 12.5%. in observing S. aureus bacteria 1x24 hours with a concentration of 50%, the size of the inhibitory zone was 16 mm, the 25% concentration was 11 mm and the 12.5% ​​concentration was 9 mm. Meanwhile, E. Coli bacteria did not show any reaction to the heruk peel extract.

Abstract

Blood donation is a crucial activity in maintaining the availability of blood for transfusion; however, awareness of the importance of blood donation still needs to be increased in various communities, including Desa Kampung Baru, Kelurahan Galang Baru, Kota Batam. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of education about the benefits of blood donation in increasing community participation in the area. The education was conducted through interactive lectures and question-and-answer sessions at the Desa Kampung Baru Community Hall. The educational material included the benefits of blood donation for both recipients and donors, the blood donation procedure, and the requirements to become a donor. The study results showed an increase in community participation in blood donation activities after the education was conducted. More residents of Desa Kampung Baru now understand the benefits of blood donation in saving lives, reducing the risk of heart disease, and renewing red blood cells in the body. Nonetheless, further monitoring and evaluation efforts are needed to ensure the sustainability of participation in blood donation in the future. This study significantly contributes to increasing public awareness of the importance of blood donation and ensuring the availability of blood supplies to support overall public health.

Abstract

Kesehatan merupakan salah satu aspek utama dalam mewujudkan kesejahteraan masyarakat. Program pemeriksaan kesehatan gratis menjadi salah satu upaya strategis untuk meningkatkan kualitas hidup masyarakat, khususnya di wilayah Batu Aji. Artikel ini membahas pelaksanaan pemeriksaan kesehatan yang meliputi deteksi dini penyakit, edukasi kesehatan, dan pemberian layanan konsultasi medis. Program ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya menjaga kesehatan, mendeteksi masalah kesehatan secara dini, serta memberikan akses pelayanan kesehatan bagi kelompok masyarakat yang kurang mampu. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi dari masyarakat Batu Aji, dengan tingkat partisipasi yang signifikan. Dampak positif berupa peningkatan pengetahuan kesehatan dan deteksi dini masalah kesehatan diharapkan dapat berkontribusi pada kualitas hidup yang lebih baik. Artikel ini menyoroti pentingnya kolaborasi antara tenaga kesehatan, institusi, dan masyarakat dalam menciptakan komunitas yang lebih sehat dan sejahtera.

Abstract

Latar belakang: Hemolisis dalam specimen serum menyebabkan pelepasan hemoglobin yang dapat mengganggu akurasi hasil pemeriksaan kimia klinik, termasuk kadar kolesterol. Penambahan reagen anti-Rh diharapkan dapat mengendapkan eritrosit dan menurunkan kadar hemoglobin bebas sehingga hasil pemeriksaan kolesterol tidak terpengaruh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh penambahan reagen anto-Rh terhadap hasil pemeriksaan kolesterol pada serum yang mengandung eritrosit. Metode: Jenis penelitian adalah eksperimental dengan desain static group comparison. Serum hemolisis dengan kadar hemoglobin 0,53 g/dL, 0,81 g/dL dan 1,03 g/dL diberi tambahan reagen anti-Rh sebanyak 50 µL, 100 µL dan 200 µL. Kadar kolesterol diperiksa menggunakan metode CHOD-PAP [2]. Data dianalisis dengan uji ANOVA satu arah dan uji lanjut Post Hoc Duncan. Hasil: Reagen Anti-Rh dapat mengendapkan dan memisahkan eritrosit dalam serum yang mengandung eritrosit; Reagen anti-Rh mempengaruhi secara signifikan dalam pemeriksaan kolesterol pada sampel yang mengandung eritrosit dengan nilai Sig < 0,05 terhadap sampel yang mengandung eritrosit yang tidak ditambahkan reagen anti-Rh. Kadar Hb 0,53 g/dL dengan penambahan reagen anti-Rh 200 µL di sampel yang mengandung eritrosit, memberikan kadar kolesterol yang sama (tidak berbeda signifikan) terhadap kolesterol yang diukur pada serum normal. Kesimpulan: Penambahan reagen anti-Rh efektif menurunkan kadar hemoglobin bebas dan mengurangi interferensi pada pemeriksaan kolesterol, tetapi kadar kolesterol tidak berbeda signifikan dengan serum normal (p > 0,05.

Abstract

Bajakah (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk.) is a plant from the Angiospermae group, belonging to the Leguminosae family, that grows in Kalimantan. This plant contains secondary metabolites with potential anticancer activity. Cancer is characterized by uncontrolled cell proliferation beyond normal mechanisms, leading to abnormal tissue growth and invasion. It is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, including breast cancer. In 2022, approximately 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer, with 670,000 deaths recorded globally, while around 1.63 million women were still living with the disease by the end of the year. This study aimed to evaluate the anticancer activity of Bajakah Spatholobus littoralis Hassk. against MCF-7 breast cancer cells using the MTS assay. The results showed that Bajakah extract exhibited low toxicity toward the MCF-7 cell line, with an IC50 value of 1,098.77 ppm. Therefore, it can be concluded that Bajakah Spatholobus littoralis Hassk., tested with the MTS method, is not cytotoxic to breast cancer cells. Further studies are recommended to investigate its potential effects on other cancer cell types
