Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the manuscript collection, preservation obstacles and solutions faced by the Al-Qur'an history museum in preserving ancient manuscripts. The research method used is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The research subjects were staff who worked at the North Sumatra Al-Qur'an history museum. Primary data sources include the North Sumatra Al-Qur'an history museum, conducting interviews with several Al-Qur'an History museum staff regarding the research carried out. Data collection techniques: observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis uses: Data Reduction, Data Presentation and Conclusion Drawing. Based on the research results obtained, it can be concluded that the results of the research are the collection of ancient manuscripts at the North Sumatra Al-Qur'an History Museum consisting of al-Qur'an manuscripts, fiqh manuscripts, tauhid, nahwu, tafsir, Sharaf, prayer manuscripts, manuscripts of mantiq, fawaid, mujarrobah, ushul fiqih, and manuscripts of the story of the prophet, as for the method of preserving ancient manuscripts in the North Sumatra Al-Qur'an history museum is by means of curative conservation and digitization, and the obstacles faced are the lack of conservators, funding, space adequate and conservation materials, and the solution for preserving the ancient manuscript collection at the North Sumatra Al-Qur'an History museum is to carry out routine preservation and maintenance with available materials, the museum recruits permanent conservators, carries out internal economic activities, and provides the collection in digital form.

Abstract

North Sumatra is the best producing region for tobacco leaves which has a high reputation in plantations and has an influence on the economy of the city of Medan, North Sumatra. This research uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques through literature study. Researchers also use steps in historical research such as (1) topic selection, (2) heuristics or source collection, (3) source verification or criticism, (4) interpretation and (5) historiography or historical writing. The research results show that the North Sumatra region is one of the regions that has an important position in the history of plantations in Indonesia from the colonial to post-colonial period.

Abstract

This research uses historical research methods with four steps, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation and historiography. Data is collected from archives, books, articles and reports that are relevant to the research topic. The North Sumatra Province documentation includes various references on the history, culture and society of the region, including an introduction to historical science, historical research methods, and studies of the sultanate and local culture. Some of the authors mentioned include Abdillah, Anderson, Daliman, Faruqi, Giddens, Lubis, Simanjuntak, and others. aims to explore the historical dynamics of the Kedatukan Satu Dua Kuta Hamparan Perak in Medan City from 1823-1946. The arrival of Guru Patimpus to the lowlands apparently had quite a big influence. This influence occurred in the Malay community and also the Karo community. Generally, people who want to settle in the Malay region must be converted to Islam first. The arrival of the Karo people in the lowlands was welcomed by the Malays. During the Aru Kingdom, many Karo people had settled and become residents who had converted to Islam, they married with Malay people. Marriage between Karo people who have converted to Islam or what is usually called Jawi is a common thing, not infrequently they also marry the children of Malay kings.

Abstract

Artifacts are historical relics that contain important information about various aspects of life. Museums, which serve as custodians of historical objects, are required to optimize this role, especially concerning their artifact collections. This research was conducted at the Langkat Regency Regional Museum, aiming to identify the efforts made in preserving artifact collections and the challenges faced by the museum's management in these preservation efforts. This study is descriptive in nature, utilizing a qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and document studies. The informants in this study included the museum director and staff members working as managers at the Langkat Regency Regional Museum. The findings of this research indicate that preservation activities at the Langkat Regency Regional Museum have been implemented as part of preventive conservation efforts to prevent damage to artifacts and extend their lifespan. The challenges faced by the museum's management in their preservation efforts include a lack of human resources (HR) and limited budget.
