Abstract

Abstract: Environmetal Effect of Tensile, Modulus and Shear Strength of Coir Fibre Composite. The aim of this research is to know the environmetal effect of tensile, modulus and shear strength of coir fibre composite. In this research, coir is used as reinforcement and matrix uses epoxy resin. Coir is soaked in water with 5% NaOH during 24 hours. Composite is moulded with 17 % fibre volume fraction and 83% matrix volume fraction. Then, the tensile specimen used ASTM D638-02 and shear specimen used ASTM D5379 standard. Universal Testing Machine is used to test of these spesimens. The specimens of tensile and shear include without and with treatment to environmental influence during 10, 20, and 30 days. The result shows that tensile strength, modulus and shear strength  of  specimen treatment during 10, 20, 30 days are not significantly decreased   from  specimen without treatment. This result can be used as recommadation for material of wind blade for the future.   Keywords: composites, coir fiber, shear strength, tensile strength

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untukmelakukan pengujian sifat kuat tarik pada material komposit hibrid dengan penguat serat ijuk dan serat sabut kelapa, guna mengetahui kemampuan mekanis material tersebut dalam kaitannya menahan beban atau  gaya yang bekerja, sehingga dapat diketahui nilai kuat tarik yang ditimbulkan.Bahan penyusun komposit yang digunakan adalah serat sabut kelapa yang mengalami perendaman NaOH 5% selama 24 jam dan serat ijuk tanpa perlakuan. Dengan fraksi volume serat ijuk dan serat sabut kelapa 30%:0%, 10%:20%, 15%:15%, 20%:10% dan 0%:30%. Komposit hibrid yang telah dicetak kemudian dibentuk menjadi spesimen uji tarik dengan standar ASTM D 638-02.Hasil pengujian kekuatan tarik tertinggi pada fraksi volume serat ijuk dan serat sabut kelapa 15%:15%, yaitu 23,48 MPa. Kemudian kekuatan tarik terendah 0%:30% yaitu 17,19 MPa. Regangan tarik tertinggi pada fraksi volume 20%:10% yaitu 31,49%. Kemudian regangan tarik terendah 30%:0% yaitu 27,38%. Modulus elastisitas tertinggi pada fraksi volume 30%:0% yaitu 76,14 MPa. Kemudian modulus elastisitas terendah 0%:30% yaitu 55,33 MPa. Hasil foto makro disetiap variasi serat ijuk dan serat sabut kelapa cenderung menunjukkan pada patah getas atau brittle serta mengalami fiber pull out.Kata Kunci :Komposit hibrid, kuat tarik, serat ijuk, serat sabut kelapa, acak.

Abstract

Coir fibres are obtained from coconut husk.  In application of composite materials, coir fibres  are  influenced  by  mechanial  properties.    This  study  aims  to  characterize  the mechanical properties of coir fibres. To characterize mechanial properties of coir fibres, variation of gauge length of fibres was conducted. The result showed that variability of cross  setional  areas  influenced  mechanical  properies  and  that  the  Young’s  modulus, breaking stress and breaking strain can be determined.

Abstract

Natural fibres as reiforcement of composite have been concerning in the last decade. These have changed in use convestional fibre like glass fibre and carbon fibre related to environmental effect. One of natural fibres can potensially change conventional fibre is coir fibre. This fibre is abundant in tropical areas such as India, Brazil and Indonesia. In this paper, an overview of aplication of coir fibre as reinforced composite in some uses was described.

Abstract

Natural fibre composites have been developed for some applications. One of potential natural fibre for composite is angustifolia Haw Agave fibre.  In this research, the tensile strength and flexural strength of agave fibre composite with variations of fibre length were determined. Fibre agave (treated and untreated) with 1 cm, 3 cm and 5 cm length was used as reinforced composite.    The results showed that the maximum tensile strength of agave fibre composite with untreated fibre occurs in 5 cm length, meanwhile with treated fibres the tensile strength tends to similar for each fibre length; and agave fibre with 5 cm length  as reinforced composite has higher flexural strength than other fibre lengths for treated and untreated fibres.

Abstract

This article presents the mechanical properties of coir-angustifolia Hawagave fiber hybrid composite. Prior to form composite, these fibers were soaked in 5%w/v NaOH solution during 24 hours. Coir fibers were twisted and composed one direction like mat and agave fibers were also composed one direction and formed mat. Epoxy resin was used as matrix in this hybrid composite.The hybrid composites were manufactured using hand layup technique followed by compression molding. The variation of fraction volume of coir fiber and agave fiber was 10:20, 15:15 and 20:10 respectively. The tensile strength, tensile modulus, flexural  strength and flexural modulus were evaluated. Fracture tensile was analysed by Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM). Result showed that 15%Vf coir and 15% Vf agave fibers on the hybrid composite yield high tensile strength, tensile modulus and flexural modulus compared to other fraction volume. SEM analysis exhibits that all fraction volume variations on the composite tend to undergo fiber fracture without pull-out and matrix damage.Keywords : hybrid composite,  coir fiber, angustifolia Haw agave fiber, matrix, mechanical properties.
