Abstract

Patient safety is a global issue that must be prioritized in health care facilities, Patient Safety Incidents often occur and one of the causes is human error from health workers, therefore it is important to improve the quality of Human Resources, especially Nurses in Health Care Facilities by utilizing technological developments to increase effectiveness and efficiency. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of mobile application empowerment educational program on nurses knowledge, attitude and competencies towards patient safety. The design of this study was purely experimental, the population was all nurses implementing the inpatient ward in 3 hospitals in Medan City (Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital, Rosiva Mother and Child Hospital and Susanna Wesley Hospital) as many as 860 nurses. Sampling was determined by the proportional random sampling method of 300 nurses. Showed that there was an increase in scores between before and after being given learning using the Mobile Application (Wilcoxon Test P value <0.001), being given learning between the intervention and control groups (Mann-Whitney Test P Value <0.001). There is an influence of the use of mobile applications (SBN Patient Safety) as a learning method on the attitudes, and competencies of respondents Multivariate ANOVA (MANOVA) test shows that all four significant values of Pillai's Trace, P Wilks' Lambda, Hotelling's Trace, Roy's Largest Root <0.001). In this study, mobile Application was well received as a learning method to improve nurses' attitudes and competencies about patient safety. It is expected that health service facilities and all related parties will maintain and improve the quality of health services by implementing patient safety as an effort to prevent patient safety incidents.

Abstract

Complete basic immunisation is a key public health intervention to prevent infectious diseases in infants. However, immunisation coverage remains suboptimal, particularly due to limited maternal knowledge and negative perceptions. This study aimed to assess the effect of health education on mothers’ attitudes toward complete basic immunisation in Tembung Village, Deli Serdang Regency. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed, involving 20 mothers with infants, purposively selected from three hamlets with low immunisation coverage. The intervention consisted of interactive health education addressing the benefits, schedule, and common post-immunisation reactions. Maternal attitudes were measured using structured questionnaires before and after the intervention and analysed descriptively. The results demonstrated an improvement in positive attitudes across all indicators following education, including acceptance of immunisation despite concerns about side effects and access barriers. These findings indicate that community-based health education effectively enhances maternal acceptance of immunisation. Nevertheless, short-term evaluation may be subject to social desirability bias, underscoring the need for sustained, repeated educational interventions.

Abstract

The quality of nursing services for hemodialysis patients is determined by the role and performance of nurses. High workloads are often the reason nurses leave work, which can disrupt the continuity of patient care. A high workload can have a negative impact on the quality of nurses' work, while a balanced workload can improve the quality of work. This study used a cross-section design with a sample of 35 hemodialysis nurses at RSUD Dr. Soetomo. The research was carried out in the Hemodialysis room at Dr Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya. Research data regarding workload and service quality variables was collected through questionnaires. Research data was processed using Spearmen rho with a p-value ≤ 0.05. The statistical test results show that the p-value is 0.000, so it can be interpreted that H0 is rejected. This indicates a relationship between nurses' workload and the quality of hemodialysis services. The workload creates optimal nurse performance in carrying out actions. The performance of nurses in hemodialysis tasks, which are quite complex, with the number of patients being disproportionate to the number of nurses, has an effect on the quality of nursing services.

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) states that patient safety is a serious global public health issue. Medical errors can be caused by both system and human factors. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the leadership style of the ward head and the implementation of patient safety culture at Murni Teguh Hospital, Medan. This research method is descriptive with a cross-sectional design, a total of 60 respondents, sampling using accidental sampling technique with a sample of 60 respondents, using observation sheets and questionnaires. The results of the study that has been conducted found that the leadership style of the ward head at Murni Teguh Hospital is mostly moderate (29 people), a minority of high (14 people), and the patient safety culture at Murni Teguh Hospital is mostly quite good (27 people), and a minority of good (16 people). With the results of the bivariate analysis using the Chis-square test obtained a p value = 0.002, so p-value = 0.002 < α (0.05), thus there is a relationship between the leadership style of the ward head and the implementation of patient safety culture at Murni Teguh Hospital, Medan. This shows statistically that there is a significant relationship between leadership style and the implementation of patient safety culture.

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death in women worldwide. One of the main treatment methods is chemotherapy, which requires high precision and expertise from nurses to ensure the proper and safe use of chemotherapy drugs. Nurse knowledge is crucial. The use of chemotherapy drugs that do not meet standards can pose a risk to patient safety. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between nurse knowledge and the implementation of chemotherapy drug administration in breast cancer patients at Murni Teguh Hospital, Medan. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional method. This study used a total sampling technique and involved 44 nurses working in the oncology ward. The research instrument used a knowledge and implementation questionnaire. The results of the study were used to analyze univariate and bivariate data using the Spearman's Rho test. 36 of the participants, or 81.8 percent, showed a good level of knowledge, and 35 people, or 79.5 percent, showed the correct application of chemotherapy drugs. The Spearman's Rho test results showed a strong and significant positive relationship between nurses' knowledge and the application of chemotherapy drugs in patients with breast cancer at Murni Teguh Hospital, Medan, with a ρ value of 0.846 and a p-value of <0.001. Hospitals are expected to improve nurse training and education to protect patients and provide better nursing services.

Abstract

Medication administration is an essential nursing responsibility that directly affects patient safety. Errors in administering high-alert medications can cause serious or even fatal consequences. Therefore, implementing the “Seven Rights” principle in medication administration is crucial to prevent medication errors. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nurses’ knowledge and compliance in administering high-alert medications based on the Seven Rights principle at the inpatient wards of Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital Medan. This research employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The sample is 69 nurses and research instrument was a questionnaire. The Spearman's rho correlation test yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.589 with a significance level of 0.000 (p <0.05). This indicates a significant relationship between nurses' knowledge and compliance. The correlation coefficient of 0.589 is within the range of 0.51–0.75, indicating a strong relationship. In conclusion, adherence to the seven rights principle correlates with nurses' understanding of how to administer high-risk medications. It is recommended that nurses improve training and supervision from nursing management.
