Abstract

Abstract - Daylighting is one of the important aspects in architecture. Daylighting in cafes or restaurants can provide various benefits, including creating a comfortable and pleasant atmosphere for visitors and helping to reduce energy costs. However, excessive brightness can cause glare and become a problem that disrupts the comfort of customers and employees. Insufficient daylight can also affect visual comfort, making objects less clear and causing contrast between the workspace and the openings. Generally, natural light enters the room through side openings such as windows. However, natural light often struggles to penetrate the room due to nearby buildings or the bulky shape of the building, hence the use of overhead openings such as skylights. Wheels Coffee Roasters Riau Bandung is one of the cafes in the city of Bandung. Wheels Coffee Roaster has two indoor spaces with very different characteristics of daylighting. The first indoor space is the dining and bar area in the atrium, with top lighting in the form of a combination of skylights and clerestory. In addition to being a source of daylight, the skylight also serve as a distinctive feature of this cafe and support the micro-tropical concept used in its interior design. The second indoor space is the dining area adjacent to the atrium, which has two side openings, namely openings facing the atrium and the outside. The research conducted is descriptive-evaluative with a quantitative-qualitative approach. The research areas include the space below the atrium skylight, which serves as the dining and bar area, and the space adjacent to the atrium, which serves as the dining area. Simulation of sunlight movement on the building is used to determine the research time. In addition, simulations are used to collect data and evaluate the quantity and quality of existing natural lighting. Simulations are also used to optimize the study object. This research resulted in several conclusions. First, the visual comfort of the dining and ba area has not been achieved in terms of daylighting quality due to disruptive glare that is intolerable. Second, the visual comfort of the dining area adjacent to the atrium has not been achieved in terms of quantity and quality of daylighting because the illuminance does not meet the standards, and there is contrast when looking towards both side openings. Changing the type of translucent glass for the skylights and clear glass for the clerestory with a glass 50% significantly reduces glare in the dining and bar area in the atrium, although some glare still persists at certain times and is intolerable. Changing the shading elements and dimensions of the openings facing the outside can improve illuminance and reduce contrast ratios in the dining area adjacent to the atrium. Abstract

Abstract

Abstract - Lighting among various aspects, is crucial in facilitating users to carry out activities. Lighting can be categorized as decent, if it can meet the visual comfort standards in accordance to the demands of existing activities. One of the differentiating aspects in the lighting procurement strategy is the buildings’ typology. Each typology has different lighting characteristics, where a typically large room typology has a central area that is more difficult achieve natural lighting (Anasiru, 2016) and so it relies more on artificial lighting. However, there have been numerous findings and innovations in the use of natural lighting in buildings with similar typologies. This arises in response to concerns about the high level usage of energy in buildings, proving the need for an energy-efficient lighting system. The object reviewed in this study is Pujasera FoodStep, a commercial area on the semi-basement floor of the Parahyangan Residence Apartment. The object of this research is filled with various food outlets and sitting areas, with an area of about 1250 m2. In addition to being used for eating activities, it is also often used for studying, doing college assignments, and holding discussions. This room with a rather large typology utilizes artificial lighting as the main light source, aside from several natural lighting strategies implemented in this area, namely side openings and light wells. Fulfilling the quantity and quality standards of lighting become especially important at the Foodstep Pujasera, promoted by the management as a learning and working area in addition to dining area. This is made to be even more concerning with the existing state deemed uncomfortable visually based on initial observations. Because of the high usage od artificial lighting in pujasera foodstep as a result of the large semi-basement space, a strategy is needed that can take advantage of existing natural lighting from side openings and lightwells so that it can lighten the burden of artificial lighting, especially considering existing conditions that do not seem to include the potentials of natural lighting in its system, where all the lights can be seen turned on throughout the day, even in areas near the openings. The purpose of this research is to assess the level of visual comfort in the existing conditions, to seek proposed strategies related to artificial lighting to be able to fulfill visual comfort, and also to seek proposed strategies for collaborating artificial lighting and natural lighting in order to save energy. The method used is descriptive experimental, with a quantitative approach through simulation assisted by DIALUX Light Wizard, Curic Sun, and DIALUX Evo software. Through this research, several conclusions were obtained. First, the lighting in existing conditions that rely on artificial light as the main lighting does not meet the standard of visual comfort. Second, is the creation of artificial lighting design that can achieve visual comfort. Third, is to propose a strategy that can collaborate artificial lighting with natural lighting in the Foodstep food court seating area. Suggestions that can be given through this research is to consider the role of other elements aside from artificial lighting as aspects that also affect lighting in the room. The elements mentioned are the design of the side openings and lightwells, as well as the use of wall, floor, and ceiling materials. Abstract

Kota Cirebon memiliki kekayaan peninggalan arsitektur masa lalu. ABSTRACT The city of Cirebon has a wealth of architectural heritage from the past. An undeveloped historical area is Cirebon 0 Km, namely Kebumen Field, which was also the site of the former VOC Fort. This area seems to have lost its identity as an old colonial city and is poorly organized and appears lifeless. Therefore, in line with Unpar's architectural vision and mission to develop the local potential of West Java to a global level, the objective of this community service activity is to assist in the identification of ancient Dutch colonial buildings to support the revitalization of this area into a city tourist destination based on local values, thereby supporting the future development of tourism in the city of Cirebon. Therefore, efforts towards revitalization are needed, namely the revitalization of urban areas and regions that have declined in terms of social and cultural life as well as economic aspects. The initial method used is the identification of buildings through mapping and documentation of buildings suspected of being cultural heritage sites. The results of this stage are the identification and study of old buildings that can later be designated as cultural heritage sites for the early colonial era in Cirebon. The results of this community service can be used as a basis for establishing a cultural heritage area and next year's activities in the form of developing a concept for the architectural revitalization of Cirebon's early colonial old town to support city tourism. Abstract

The Cirebon Palace and Chinatown areas possess a wealth of cultural iconography that represents the acculturation of various traditions. However, its use in the design of heritage area landmarks tends to be visual rather than grounded in systematic design principles. This study aims to formulate design principles for heritage-area landmarks by translating cultural iconography into design knowledge. The study employed a qualitative approach based on design research through literature review, field observations, visual documentation, and focused discussions with stakeholders. Analysis was conducted through the identification, interpretation, and synthesis of cultural iconography into design principles. The research results yielded five principles: regional legibility, symbolic transformation, contextual identity, visual acculturation, and contemporary adaptation. These principles were then implemented in the design of the Ariodinoto Street Monument, the Chinatown Gate, and the Pulasaren Street Landmark. This research contributes by offering a conceptual framework that bridges cultural values with design decisions, thus making it applicable to landmark design in other heritage areas.
