Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of STEM knowledge for pre-service science and mathematics teachers in the 21st century. This research aims to analyze the STEM knowledge of pre-service science and mathematics teachers. The research method was carried out by distributing questionnaires with STEM knowledge indicators to the sample. The sample in this research was 86. They were 59 pre-service science teachers and 27 pre-service mathematics teachers, with different years of education, namely the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year of Universitas Negeri Semarang. The results of this research show that the average understanding of pre-service science and mathematics teachers regarding to the STEM-based learning in the definition aspect is 4.11, objectives are 3.94, benefits are 3.94, aspects are 3.69, components are 3.71, characteristics is 3.75, and implementation is 3.86. This proves that pre-service science and mathematics teachers' understanding of the definition of STEM-based learning is very good, while pre-service science and mathematics teachers' understanding of the objectives, benefits, aspects, components, characteristics, and implementation of STEM-based learning is good.

Abstract

The Solar System is an abstract and difficult concept for students to understand. On the other hand, conceptual understanding and digital literacy are competencies that students must have in the 21st century. The purpose of this study was develop and analyze STEM-PjBL based Augmented Reality for enhancing students' conceptual understanding and digital literacy in Solar System concept. Quasi-experimental research with pretest and posttest group design was utilized in order to answer the research questions in this study. The results of the study showed that STEM-PjBL based AR media were effective in improving students' conceptual understanding with an N-gain score in the experimental class of 0.71 (high criteria) compared to the control class of 0.41 (moderate criteria). The highest conceptual understanding indicators were in inferring and comparing. STEM-PjBL-based AR media was effective in improving students' digital literacy with an N-gain score in the experimental class of 0.57 (moderate criteria) compared to the control class of 0.22 (low criteria). The highest digital literacy indicators are in communication, content creation, and problem solving.

Abstract

STEM education has become a trend in the 21st century in many countries, includingIndonesia. The term STEM combines four different disciplines namely Science,Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM education is a concern because it isrelevant to be implemented and forms 21st century skills. This makes pre-service teacherneed to understand STEM education in order to apply it to learning correctly. There arethree aspects that influence the conception, understanding, and self-efficacy of preservice science teachers. Therefore, research was conducted with the aim of analyzingthe relationship between conception, understanding, and self-efficacy of pre-servicescience teachers towards STEM education. This study uses Quantitative DescriptiveResearch Design because it aims to describe and illustrate the relationship modelbetween conception and understanding of self-efficacy in STEM education from thepre-service of Science Education study program students, Semarang State University.Based on the research that has been conducted, a structural relationship model betweenconception and understanding of STEM education self-efficacy among pre-servicescience teachers is obtained. In the model, simultaneously the conception variable andthe understanding variable affect the STEM education self-efficacy of pre-servicescience teachers, where a higher contribution is given by the conception variable. Inconclusion, conception and understanding affect the self-efficacy of science teachercandidates in STEM education.
