Abstract

This study examines the representation of gender duality and identity ambiguity in Vicki Baum’s novel Love and Death in Bali through the lenses of queer theory and intersectional feminism. Using a qualitative textual analysis approach, the research reveals that characters, especially Raka and Alit, exhibit fluid gender identities that defy the traditional masculine-feminine binary. Their bodily descriptions, clothing, and emotional expressions reflect gender performativity that challenges patriarchal norms both within Balinese customs and under Dutch colonial power. Additionally, the position of women in the novel is portrayed as oppressed by the overlapping forces of traditional authority and colonial domination, particularly through the regulation of their bodies and sexuality. This analysis argues that Love and Death in Bali not only documents the historical colonial reality but also opens critical discursive space about gender identity as complex, fractured, and political. By combining queer and intersectional perspectives, this study highlights the importance of rereading colonial literature as a site for producing meanings of identity that are fluid and unstable.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal how the female body is constructed, moralized, and surveilled through the figure of the chaperone in Western culture and the gowok in Javanese tradition. Employing a comparative literature approach and a qualitative descriptive method, this research analyzes two cultural texts: the Netflix series Lady’s Companion (2025) and the film Gowok: Kamasutra Jawa (2025). The theoretical framework draws on Michel Foucault’s concept of the politics of the body, Judith Butler’s theory of gender performativity, and Gayatri Spivak’s notion of subalternity. The findings indicate that in Western society the female body is repressed through public morality and norms of decorum, while in Javanese culture it is exploited through patriarchal spirituality that positions women as instruments of masculine knowledge and initiation. In Lady’s Companion, the character Elena Bianda functions as a moral agent who supervises the conduct and bodily comportment of young noblewomen to preserve family reputation. In contrast, Gowok: Kamasutra Jawa presents Nyai Gowok as a spiritual teacher whose body becomes a symbolic site of knowledge and discipline, yet remains embedded within the patriarchal logic of Javanese court culture. Both figures demonstrate distinct yet interconnected mechanisms of gender surveillance, rooted in the same patriarchal logic that controls the female body through moral and spiritual institutions. By juxtaposing these two cultural frameworks, this study contributes to cross-cultural discourse on gender, morality, and embodiment, showing how literature and film reflect and reproduce the politics of the female body.

Abstract

Waste management remains a critical issue in many rural areas, including Panjunan Village. The lack of public awareness regarding sustainable waste handling highlights the need for educational interventions involving multiple stakeholders. This community service project aims to enhance public education on waste management through the development of a waste bank using the Triple Helix approach, involving collaboration among universities, local government, and the community. The methods included awareness campaigns, training sessions, and technical assistance in establishing and managing the waste bank. The results indicated a significant improvement in community knowledge and active participation in household waste sorting and management. Furthermore, the formation of a waste bank management team and the engagement of local partners served as indicators of the success of this collaborative approach. Thus, the Triple Helix synergy proves effective in promoting environmental awareness and empowering sustainable waste management at the village level.

Abstract

Pendidikan keluarga yang berbasis pada hukum keluarga memiliki peran penting untuk membangun hubungan yang sehat antara orang tua dan anak. Orang tua seharusnya memberikan pendidikan mengenai hak dan kewajiban mereka serta hak anak dalam pengasuhan. Pemahaman tersebut memungkinkan orang tua untuk menjalankan peran mereka dengan bijaksana, menghindari ketegangan dalam keluarga, dan menjaga hubungan yang harmonis. Pendidikan yang berfokus pada hukum keluarga membantu orang tua untuk mengajarkan anak-anak mereka tentang pentingnya menghormati hak orang lain dan mengikuti aturan yang berlaku, baik dalam kehidupan keluarga maupun dalam masyarakat. Selain itu, pendidikan keluarga yang tepat juga berperan untuk mengurangi konflik hukum dalam keluarga, seperti sengketa hak asuh anak. Oleh karena itu, untuk menciptakan keluarga yang lebih sehat dan harmonis, pendidikan keluarga yang berbasis hukum sangat penting untuk diperkenalkan dan diterapkan lebih luas. Pengetahuan tentang hukum keluarga akan memberikan wawasan yang lebih baik bagi orang tua dan anak untuk menjaga hubungan yang saling menghormati, adil, dan penuh kasih.

Abstract

This study analyzes the relationship between the application of ethical values in public service and the integrity of state apparatus on the level of public trust. The study uses a qualitative approach through a literature review of various scholarly sources from the last two decades. The results of the study indicate that the application of ethical values such as justice, accountability, transparency, and professionalism can increase public trust in the government. Conversely, the low integrity of the state apparatus will hurt the quality of public service, encouraging the growth of corrupt practices, bureaucratic inefficiency, service discrimination, and the decline of the merit system and public trust. This study also describes various efforts that the government can undertake to build and strengthen a culture of integrity within the state apparatus, including: enforcement of regulations and strict sanctions, continuous ethics training, implementation of a merit system in recruitment and promotion, public involvement in oversight, and exemplary bureaucratic leadership. These findings confirm that strengthening a culture of integrity and ethics must be a top priority in the bureaucratic reform agenda to realize professional, clean, and trusted public services.

Abstract

Situs kencan daring Tinder merupakan situs kencan terbesar yang mudah diakses oleh penggunanya di seluruh dunia. Dengan kemudahan itu, pengguna dapat menjali hubungan pertemanan dengan siapapun dari berbagai macam latar belakang sosial dan status. Hal itu yang mendasari hubungan pertemanan memasuki babak baru yang mengarah pada hubungan seksual tanpa komitmen serius. Fenomena Friends with Benefits (FWB) akhir-akhir menjadi primadona di kalangan pengguna situs kencan daring. Pada penelitan ini peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan menggunakan teori fenomenologi. Ada sepuluh partisipan yang mengisi kuisioner dengan pertanyaan yang sama. Analisis data digunakan melalui beberapa tahap, yaitu pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data penyajian data, serta verifikasi dan penarikan kesimpulan. Dari hasil analisis tersebut ditemukan bahwa pelaku FWB memiliki faktor yang beragam, diantaranya: dapat memiliki pasangan tanpa ada komitmen dan keterikatan, penyaluran dan pemuasaan hasrat seksual, pembuktian jati diri. Bagi pelaku FWB hubungan mereka hanya diartikan sebatas bersenang-senang karena mereka lebih nyaman melakukan hal tersebut daripada memiliki komitmen serius dalam jangka waktu lama hanya dengan satu orang.

Abstract

Waqf is an Islamic philanthropic activity that has a strategic function in various instruments. Gunungkidul regency, located in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, is one of the regions that has received an award as a waqf city in Indonesia, but the potential does not necessarily mean that all communities can optimally utilize waqf assets.  The purpose of community service activities in Jetis village is to provide education and better understanding to the community regarding the provisions, concepts, and potential of waqf, as well as the implementation of Islamic values in social and economic activities. The method used is educational in the form of socialization using a participatory approach. From this study, it was found that public awareness of the importance of productive waqf asset management as economic added value is quite good, but there is still a lack of understanding about the sustainable utilization of waqf assets. Through the dissemination of information on strengthening the potential of waqf, it is hoped that the community will be able to improve their understanding of the regulations governing waqf management in Indonesia, and that the community will be able to actively participate in the utilization of waqf assets, until achieving economic independence.
