Abstract

The extension activity aimed to improve the duck farmer skills in duck farming system in Candi Manik village, Sekotong Sub-District, West Lombok District. The activity was successfully conducted due to collaboration among several parties, including village officials, KKN student of University of Mataram, and lecturers of Faculty of Animal Science University of Mataram.  The activity was carried out using talk and discussion methods. All of the invited participants attended the activity until the end. The whole activity ran smoothly and in orderly manner. Materials presented during the activity were needed by the participants, especially the duck farmers. Thus, it can be concluded that, the extension activity was a success as it met the planned targets and objectives. Materials given were: breeding, feed and feeding, menegement of rearing sytem, disease and disease contole, and post-harvest handling management. All of the participants attended the extension activity until the end. The whole extension activities consisting of discussions, questions and answers sessions took place in an orderly manner. The discussed extension topics were material needed by participants, especially for duck farmers. Thus it can be concluded that the material provided can improve duck farming skills of the participants in order to increase egg production as salted egg raw materials

Abstract

The program of demonstration plot in Rempek Village, North Lombok Regency was expected to become a pioneer for laying chicken farm in the regency. Prior to development of planned facilities, site survey was conducted to find the purposed location and focus discussion group. The demonstration plot used house system with 6 x 20 m in width and length extending from east to west. The cage was built using mild construction iron poles and roofed using spandex. The roof was in a monitor-shape with half–open walls on the north and south sides.  550 cages were put iniside the house to keep 1100 pullets. For the pullet row put next to the walls, they were placed with the heads facing inwards; meanwhile for the pullets in the middle rows, they were placed back to back with each other. Every cage was equipped with a feeder and a nipple. During the rearing process, the pullets were fed 110 g/head/day of a mixture of commercial concentrate, corn, and bran with the ratio of 2:4:4, while drinking water was given ad libitum. The production process was normal with egg production peak reaching 92%. After 4 weeks of the peak production, North Lombok Regency was hit by several earthquake, causing the decrease of egg production for the feed was too procey for the production to continue

Abstract

The transportation of poultry from the farmer to the chicken slaughterhouse (CSH) or to the chicken slaughterplace (CSP) is a chain that plays a significant role in determining the quality of poultry meat. During the transportation, the birds experienced stress from the process of moving from cages to boxes, overcrowding of chickens in boxes, unavailability of feed and drinking water, stress of heat and wind, the process of moving chickens from boxes to temporary shelters, as well as fatigue and fear. All of these processes act simultaneously as stressors, so that chickens suffer from acute stress. Stress in livestock has an impact on the emergence of glycolytic processes, glycolysis and ATP hydrolysis. Muscle glycogen will undergo enzymatic glycolysis and produce lactic acid which triggers changes in the pH of the meat so that the meat becomes pale, soft and watery (PSE = pale, soft, exudative). The most detrimental impact is the emergence of a high mortality rate, so this transportation process must be handled carefully. Some things can be done to reduce the stress of transportation include: chickens that are transported in good health, before transportation, supplymenting antistress is offered, prior to leaving the chickens are sprayed with water. Catching the birds is avoided, and put them in the box and then remove from the box gently. Filling boxes must be in accordance with standards, and transportation is carried out at night.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to investigate the body measurements of female Arabian chickens during the laying phase. The study utilized a sample of 95 female Arabian chickens, aged 94 weeks, which were housed in battery cages and utilized for egg production. Direct measurements were taken on each chicken, with variables including body weight, head circumference, beak length, comb height, neck length, back length, wing length, chest width, chest depth, upper thigh length, lower thigh length, shank length, shank circumference, the distance between the pubis bones, the distance between the pubic bone and sternum, and the length of the phalanges. The results of the study indicated that the body weight and morphometric measurements of the Arabian chickens were consistent with prior research. Furthermore, the size of the chest, back, neck, and wings displayed a significant correlation with body weight. Therefore, these measurements can be used as indicative markers for predicting the body weight of Arabian chickens.

Abstract

ABSTRAK. Itik Manila merupakan salah satu plasma nutfah yang mempunyai kontribusi signifikan sebagai penyangga ketahanan pangan nasional, namun belum banyak tersedia data sistem produksi dan kinerja produksinya. Penentuan sampel wilayah penelitian dilakukan dengan metode purposive sampling, sedangkan jumlah sampel dilakukan dengan metode quantitative sampling. Data diperoleh dengan mewawancarai masing-masing 50 responden (peternak itik Manila) di daerah basah dan kering, serta 30 responden di daerah padat penduduk pulau Lombok yang ditentukan menggunakan metode Snowball. Untuk mengetahui pola produksi dan produktivitas itik Manila dilakukan pengamatan langsung ke lokasi usaha, dan melakukan pengukuran performa produksi pada masing-masing peternak. Pelaksanaan wawancara dibantu oleh daftar pertanyaan serta alat ukur berupa timbangan merk ohaus kapasitas 5 kg dan kepekaan 1 g. Data yang diperoleh ditabulasi dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan bahwa pemeliharaan itik Manila di pulau Lombok sebagian besar menggunakan sistem semi intensif dengan menggunakan dedak padi dan atau nasi aking sebagai pakan, sedangkan di daerah padat penduduk, pakan itik Manila dicampur ampas tahu. Performa produksi itik Manila lokal Lombok di daerah padat penduduk relatif lebih baik dibandingkan dengan itik Manila dari daerah kering dan basah.Kata kunci: itik Manila, performa produksi, bobot badan, konsumsi pakan, ampas tahuProduction System and Productivity of Local Muscovy Duck, Lombok IslandABSTRACT. Muscovy duck is one of the germplasm that has a significant contribution in Indonesia’ national food security. However, data of the duck’ production system and production performance are not yet available. The study was conducted on the island of Lombok by determining the sample area using the purposive sampling method, while the number of samples was determined by the quantitative sampling method. The data was obtained by interviewing 50 respondents (Muscovy duck farmers) in wet and dry areas, and 30 respondents in the suburbs of Lombok Island, which were determined using the snowball method. To determine the pattern of the production and the productivity of Muscovy duck s, direct observations were made to business locations and productions of each breeder’s performance were measured. The interview was assisted by a list of questions and measuring instruments in the form of an Ohaus brand scale with a capacity of 5 kg and a sensitivity of 1 gram. The data obtained were tabulated and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the maintenance of local Muscovy duck s on the island of Lombok uses a semi-intensive system using rice bran and or aking rice as feed, while in suburban areas, Muscovy duck feed is mixed with tofu dregs. The production performance of local Muscovy duck s in Lombok in densely populated areas is relatively better than that of Muscovy duck s from dry and wet areas.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui ukuran beberapa bagian tubuh ayam Kampung Super dan hubungannya dengan bobot badan. Pengambilan data dilakukan di Teaching Farm Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Mataram, di Desa Lingsar, Lombok Barat. Penelitian menggunakan 60 ekor ayam Kampung Super jantan dan 96 ekor betina yang dipelihara secara intensif. Peubah yang diamati adalah bobot badan, ukuran lingkar kepala, panjang leher, panjang sayap, panjang punggung, ukuran lingkar dada, lebar dada, panjang paha atas dan bawah, panjang metatarsus, lingkar metatarsus, dan panjang jari ketiga. Pengukuran dilakukan terhadap setiap individu ternak pada umur 13 minggu menggunakan benang kemudian diukur dengan pita ukur, sedangkan pengukuran lebar dada dilakukan dengan cara mengukur jarak antara sisi kanan dan kanan dada menggunakan jangka sorong. Data yang diperoleh ditabulasi dan dianalisa menggunakan Regresi sederhana. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan bahwa bagian tubuh yang mempunyai kontribusi terbesar pada bobot tubuh ayam Kampung Super umur 13 minggu adalah ukuran panjang paha bawah pada ayam jantan dan ukuran lingkar dada pada ayam betina.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui perubahan sifat kualitatif ayam Arab yang dipelihara sebagai penghasil telur.Penelitian dilakukan dengan pengamatan pada peternakan ayam Arab di desa Beber Kecamatan Mantang Lombok Tengah. Penentuan sampel peternak dilakukan dengan metode purpusive random dengan kreteria memelihara ayam Arab fase bertelur dalam kandang litter. Peubah yang diamati adalah warna bulu, warna paruh, warna kulit, warna shank dan bentuk jengger. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan bahwa ayam Arab yang diamati mempunyai 2 warna bulu, yaitu warna silver dan gold. Terjadi penambahan warna paruh putih, yang semula hanya berwarna hitam, menjadi hitam dan putih. Hasil penelitian juga mendapatkan bentuk jengger pea, dari semula hanya berbentuk tunggal.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh waktu pengangkutan ayam dari peternak ke tempat pemotongan ayam pada perubahan suhu tubuh dan bobot badan ayam broiler. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) pola faktorial 3 x 2 (3 waktu pengangkutan dan 2 waktu pengukuran). Sebagai faktor pertama adalah waktu pengangkutan, yaitu pagi, siang dan sore hari, sedangkan faktor kedua adalah waktu pengukuran, yaitu sebelum dan sesudah pengangkutan. Penelitian menggunakan 300 ekor ayam broiler betina umur 32-37 hari. Masing-masing waktu pengangkutan diulang 10 kali (setiap hari selama 10 hari), sehingga dalam setiap ulangan menggunakan 10 ekor ayam broiler. Peubah yang diamati adalah suhu lingkungan, suhu tubuh dan bobot badan sebelum dan sesudah pengangkutan. Waktu pengukuran (sebelum dan sesudah pengangkutan) dan waktu pengangkutan (pagi, siang dan sore) mempengaruhi suhu tubuh (P<0.05), namun tidak mempengaruhi bobot badan (P>0.05). Tidak terdapat interaksi antara waktu pengukuran dan waktu pengangkutan (P>0,05). Disarankan untuk melakukan pengangkutan ayam ke rumah potong ayam pada pagi hari.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis karakteristik kualitatif dan kuantitatif itik Peking umur 30 minggu yang dipelihara oleh kelompok peternak itik Monggelemong Mataram, Indonesia. Penentuan peternak didasarkan atas tersedianya itik umur fase bertelur dengan menggunakan purposive sampling, dan penentuan itik sampel ditentukan secara acak. Data yang dikumpulkan adalah berat badan dan ukuran berbagai bagian tubuh seperti lingkar kepala, panjang leher, panjang sayap, panjang punggung, lingkar dada, lebar dada, panjang paha atas, panjang paha bawah, panjang metatarsus, lingkar metatarsus, panjang paruh, dan lingkar paruh. Data kualitatif dianalisis secara deskriptif, sedangkan data ukuran tubuh dianalisis menggunakan Regresi Berganda. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa itik Pekin yang dipelihara oleh kelompok peternak itik Monggelemong memiliki bulu berwarna putih, paruh dan shank berwarna jingga. Bobot dan ukuran tubuh itik relatif lebih kecil dibandingkan penelitian sebelumnya. Ukuran lebar dada, panjang punggung, lingkar kepala, dan panjang sayap berkorelasi dengan berat badan, dengan determinasi (R2) tertinggi pada ukuran lebar dada (86%). Ukuran lebar dada direkomendasikan untuk menyeleksi morfometri dan ukuran tubuh itik Pekin.
