Abstract

Karakteristik massa air yang merupakan ciri kondisi dari suatu perairan penting untuk dikaji. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis karakteristik massa air di perairan Teluk Ambon Dalam pada bulan Pebruari. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Perairan Teluk Ambon Dalam. Data karakteristik massa air diambil pada 19 stasiun pengamatan yang dianggap mewakili perairan Teluk Ambon Dalam. Pengambilan data karakteristik massa air menggunakan alat Conductivity, Themperature, Depth (CTD). Berdasarkan pola sebaran secara horisonal, vertikal dan melintang massa air dibulan Pebruari sebaran massa air di perairan Teluk Ambon Dalam pada Minggu I dan Minggu II memperlihakan hasil yang berbeda. Pada Minggu I saat pasang nilai suhu perairan Teluk Ambon Dalam lebih rendah, salinitas lebih tinggi, densitas lebih tinggi, memiliki variasi nilai suhu dibagian permukaan lebih kecil dan massa air juga terlihat bergerak dari Teluk Ambon Luar ke arah Teluk Ambon Dalam. Pada Minggu II saat air surut, bila dibandingkan dengan Minggu I nilai suhu perairan Teluk Ambon Dalam terlihat lebih tinggi, salinitas lebih rendah, densitas lebih rendah, variasi nilai suhu dipermukaan lebih besar dan massa air terlihat bergerak ke luar teluk. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa massa air yang masuk ke dalam teluk mengikuti arus pasang adalah massa air Laut Banda yang dicirikan dengan nilai densitas yang tinggi, suhu yang lebih dingin dan salinitas yang lebih tinggi. Secara vertikal terlihat bahwa ketebalan lapisan permukaan tercampur di Minggu I dan Minggu II pada setiap stasiun berkisar antara kedalaman 0-30 m, selanjutnya dibawahnya merupakan lapisan dalam.

Abstract

Dusun Wael di Kabupaten Seram Bagian Barat merupakan salah satu lokasi budidaya rumput laut. Fokus pengembangan budidaya ini adalah untuk mengatasi tingkat pengangguran dan meningkatkan pendapatan masyarakat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kontribusi budidaya rumput laut dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat di sekitar Dusun Wael, Kabupaten Seram Bagian Barat. Metode penelitian mencakup survei lapangan, wawancara, dan analisis data ekonomi masyarakat pesisir yang terlibat dalam kegiatan budidaya rumput laut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa usaha budidaya rumput laut memberikan dampak positif terhadap kesejahteraan masyarakat lokal. Meskipun demikian, terdapat tantangan terkait dengan pengelolaan sumber daya alam dan dampak lingkungan yang perlu diperhatikan agar keberlanjutan budidaya rumput laut dapat dipertahankan. Temuan ini memberikan wawasan yang penting bagi pemangku kepentingan lokal, pemerintah, dan praktisi pembangunan.

Abstract

The importance of mangrove forests in protecting coastlines from abrasion and erosion. The coastal mangrove area is experiencing serious problems in terms of mangrove area pollution, resulting in the death of mangrove seedlings, reducing density and abundance. Mangrove planting is often faced with several problems, such as lack of public awareness about the importance of mangrove ecosystems, environmental damage due to human activities, and lack of resources for planting and maintenance. Protection of mangrove areas is often faced with several problems, such as environmental damage due to human activities like illegal logging, pollution, and uncontrolled infrastructure development. In addition, lack of public awareness about the importance of mangrove ecosystems and lack of law enforcement also become obstacles in protecting mangrove areas. However, solutions to these problems can be done by increasing public awareness through education and campaigns, conducting mangrove planting in a structured and sustainable manner, and involving local communities in the planting and maintenance process. Thus, mangrove planting can be more effective and sustainable in maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems and improving community welfare. This mangrove planting activity involves students and lecturers who participate actively and runs smoothly. It is expected that this activity will foster a sense of care among students in preserving and conserving mangrove areas in the future.

Abstract

The coastal area of Negeri Latu, West Seram Regency, possesses a relatively high marine biodiversity and is a vital natural resource for the local economy, particularly in fisheries. However, increasing human activities around the coastal zone, such as the disposal of domestic waste, garbage, and industrial effluents, have exerted significant pressure on the quality of the marine environment. This study examines the utilization of aquatic biota as early pollution indicators in the coastal area of Negeri Latu, West Seram Regency. This research employs a descriptive quantitative approach. The coastline of Negeri Latu spans approximately 900 meters, with nine transects established perpendicular to the shoreline, each spaced 100 meters apart. Ten observation plots (1×1 m) were placed alternately along each transect at 10-meter intervals. Marine biota were observed, quantified, and identified to determine their species. The analysis results indicate that the pollution status in these waters falls under the Moderately Polluted category. This classification reflects a significant disturbance to water quality, although it has not yet reached severe pollution. The decline in water quality is attributed to various anthropogenic factors, particularly the local population’s high volume of waste disposal into the sea. The waste includes both organic and inorganic materials, contributing to marine environmental degradation through physical (e.g., water turbidity and discoloration), chemical (e.g., pH changes, increased levels of heavy metals and toxic compounds), and biological (e.g., reduced diversity and abundance of marine organisms) means.

Abstract

Marine debris has become a major environmental concern in coastal areas, particularly in semi-enclosed waters such as Ambon Bay. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of macro marine debris based on material composition, quantity, mass, and density across four coastal monitoring stations in Ambon Bay. Field surveys were conducted in December 2025 using the shoreline transect method in accordance with the national marine debris monitoring guidelines. Macro debris larger than 2.5 cm was collected, classified by material type, counted, and weighed. Variations in material composition were assessed using the Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H'), while differences in debris mass among stations were analyzed using the non-parametric Kruskal–Wallis test. The results showed that plastic was the dominant material at all stations, resulting in low material diversity. Significant spatial differences in macro marine debris mass were also observed among the stations, with Poka exhibiting the highest debris accumulation, whereas Lateri showed a relatively more diverse material composition than the other stations. These findings indicate that the characteristics of macro marine debris vary spatially across Ambon Bay, highlighting the need for site-specific management strategies to support more effective coastal marine debris control

Abstract

Coastal areas are dynamic social–ecological systems that are highly vulnerable to global and local environmental pressures, requiring resilience-based management, particularly for coral reef ecosystems. This study aims to identify and synthesize resilience indicators and methodological approaches using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Data were collected from Scopus and Google Scholar via Publish or Perish, yielding 172 initial articles, which were filtered down to 10 relevant studies. The results show that core ecological indicators—live coral cover, herbivore biomass, juvenile recruitment, macroalgae cover, and structural complexity—are consistently used as primary determinants of resilience. Anthropogenic pressures and socio-economic conditions also influence adaptive capacity but do not replace biophysical factors. However, variations in measurement methods, normalization, and indicator weighting limit cross-study comparability. Therefore, a standardized, transparent, and comparable assessment framework is needed. In conclusion, standardizing indicators and methods is essential to improve assessment reliability and support sustainable coral reef management and conservation.

Abstract

Coral reefs are one of the most ecologically productive and diverse ecosystems. This study aims to determine the condition of scleractinian coral cover in the northern coastal waters of Ambon Island. Data collection in the field is carried out using the systematic sampling method. A quadrant measuring 1x1 m2 becomes the sampling area. Quadrants are placed on transects 20 m long with quadrant intervals on transect lines of 5 m (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 m). The transects are placed parallel to the shoreline at depths of 3 m and 10 m, with four transects at each depth, and the distance between transects is 1 m. The data obtained were then analyzed to see the percentage of coral cover in each category and component. The results showed that the percentage of the benthic substrate of coral reefs on the North Coast of Ambon Island to a depth of 3 meters was dominated by rubble with a percentage of 26.33% - 54.83%, and for a depth of 10 meters the percentage value of ruble was 11.33% - 48.83% and sand (4% - 54.50%). The category of Acropora corals both at a depth of 3 meters and 10 meters dominated by Acropora branching (ACB), while the non-acropora category is dominated by Coral Branching (CB), Coral Encrusting (CE), and Coral Massive (CM). Overall, the condition of live coral cover on the North Coast of Ambon Island is categorized as in poor condition.

Abstract

Pulau Ambon memiliki dinamika oseanografi dan morfodinamik yang kompleks yang memengaruhi pencampuran massa air, transportasi sedimen, serta variabilitas klorofil-a dan Total Suspended Solid. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memetakan dan menganalisis sebaran klorofil-a dan Total Suspended Solid (TSS) di perairan pesisir utara Pulau Ambon menggunakan citra satelit Landsat 9. Proses pengolahan data meliputi koreksi geometrik, koreksi radiometrik, konversi reflektan Top of Atmosphere (ToA), serta penerapan algoritma estimasi klorofil-a dan TSS. Hasil pemetaan menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi klorofil-a lebih tinggi pada zona pesisir (0.198–0.265 mg/L) dan menurun ke arah laut terbuka (0.127–0.162 mg/L), menandakan tingginya masukan nutrien dari daratan dan karakter perairan oligotrofik di laut lepas. Sebaran TSS juga memperlihatkan nilai tinggi di sepanjang garis pantai (10.21–20.62 mg/L) akibat limpasan daratan, erosi, dan aktivitas manusia, sedangkan perairan yang lebih jauh menunjukkan nilai lebih rendah (10–14 mg/L). Analisis berbasis penginderaan jauh ini memberikan informasi penting bagi pengelolaan kualitas perairan dan perencanaan pengelolaan wilayah pesisir secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The potential of marine resources from the Banda Sea, particularly the waters of Nusa Laut, represents an important economic aspect for local fishers. Several fishing fleets targeting scad, including mini purse seine vessels, are widely distributed in the area, with continuous exploitation activities occurring every week. This study aimed to analyze the growth pattern, mortality, and sex ratio of white scad (Decapterus macrosoma) in Nusa Laut waters, landed at Arumbai Market, Ambon. The research was conducted using a survey method from January to June 2025, with a total sample of 150 individuals. Data were analyzed based on growth pattern, fish mortality, and sex ratio analyses. The results showed that the asymptotic length (L∞) was estimated at 24.7 cm total length (TL), with a growth coefficient (K) of 0.61 year⁻¹ and a theoretical age at zero length (t₀) of −0.25 year. The fishing mortality (F) value was 0.46 year⁻¹, the total mortality (Z) was 1.80 year⁻¹, and the natural mortality (M) was 1.34 year⁻¹, resulting in an exploitation rate (E) of 0.25. The sex ratio analysis conducted from February to June indicated that the proportion of male and female fish was in a balanced condition, with a ratio of 1:1. Based on the exploitation analysis, the length corresponding to half of the asymptotic length (L∞/2 = 12.35 cm TL) indicated that the captured fish were still relatively small. Therefore, the biological characteristics of white scad caught in Nusa Laut waters, Central Maluku, and landed at Arumbai Market, Ambon City, indicate that the fish are predominantly captured at a small size with a relatively low exploitation level.
