Abstract

ABSTRACT Early childhood motor development is an important aspect of their growth and learning. However, in the modern era, children have fewer opportunities for free play due to various factors, such as increased use of technology and changes in parenting patterns. Therefore, effective strategies are needed to support children's motor development, one of which is through observational learning in the relay game “Hola Hop.” This study aims to examine the role of observational learning on children's motor development through the relay game “Hola Hop” in the context of the Era of Free Play. The research method used is a pre-test and post-test control group design. This study involved two groups of children aged between 4-6 years. The experimental group underwent the “Hola Hop” relay game with an observational learning approach, while the control group did not receive a similar intervention. Data was collected through motor tests before and after the treatment. The results showed that the experimental group that implemented observational learning experienced significant improvements in motor development compared to the control group. This finding confirms the importance of implementing Observational Learning in children's motor learning through play. The implications of this study indicate that an observation-based learning approach can be an effective strategy in improving children's motor skills, especially in the Era of Merdeka Bermain which emphasizes freedom and exploration in children's activities.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out how an understanding of sports activities affects the overall development of young children, with a focus on motor development, cognitive, social and emotional well-being. The research was conducted through a mixed approach by conducting qualitative interviews, direct observations, and quantitative surveys with children, parents, and teachers. The results showed that children's motor development, cognitive progress, social skills and emotional well-being were positively correlated with children's sports understanding. This study has practical consequences, including the suggestion that sports activities should be incorporated into early childhood education to enhance their overall growth. This study provides the basis for a more comprehensive approach to education, providing a better understanding of the role of sport in optimizing children's development in the early stages of their development. Highlights: Holistic Influence: Examining sports understanding's broad impact on early childhood development, encompassing motor skills, cognition, and socio-emotional well-being. Robust Analysis: Employing qualitative interviews, direct observations, and quantitative surveys with children, parents, and teachers to provide a multifaceted understanding of the relationship. Educational Integration: Positive correlations between sports comprehension and motor development, cognitive progress, social skills, and emotional well-being underscore the need for incorporating sports activities into early childhood education.
