The samples of this research were 30 students. The researchers employed questionnaire, observation and test for the data collecting technique. The test used in this research was reading test consisted of 25 questions. The researchers used descriptive analysis for analyzing the data. The findings of this research show that the integration of the Know Want Learn (KWL) strategy in the Zoom conference successful to improve students’ reading comprehension and reading activity. The improvement of students’ reading comprehension can be concluded from the mean score of the pre-test is 65.42 and the mean score of the post-test is 85.49. Moreover, there are 26% (8) students who show moderate perception, 24% (7) students offer positive perceptions, and 50% (15) students show very positive perceptions. Furthermore, the combination of KWL Strategy and Zoom conference can help students achieve the learning target. The students can get many benefits from using this combination to study English. Abstract

The purpose of writing this thesis is to determine the effect of contextual learning and learning activities on the ability to write speech texts for eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 25 Pesawaran. The method used in this research is experimental with treatment by level design. This experimental method is used to examine whether there is a causal relationship by giving treatment to the experimental group whose results are compared with the results of the control group. The research method designed to determine the magnitude of the effect between the different variables by looking at the magnitude of the difference using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) technique. In this study, the ability to write speech text was given treatment with a contextual learning approach. The population was the eight grade students at SMP Negeri 25 Pesawaran in 2018/2019 academic year. The total sample is 68 students who are spread out in VIII A as the experimental class and VIII B as the control class. The results showed that the average of the students’ ability in writing speech text through contextual approach who have high learning activity is (A1B1) = 74.90. Meanwhile, the average of the students’ ability in writing speech text through contextual approach who have low learning activity is (A1B2) 71.37. Thus, the average score of the students’ ability in writing speech text through contextual approach is higher than those who wrote speech texts through conventional approach at each level of different learning activities.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of Word Detective Strategy towards students’ vocabulary mastery. The writer utilized a quasi-experimental method to conduct the research. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 7 Bandar Lampung. There were 473 students in 13 classes. The research sample consisted of two classes: an experimental class called X-AK1 and a control class called X-AK2. Cluster random sampling was applied by the writer in taking the sample. The writer utilized a multiple-choice test to measure the students' vocabulary mastery when collecting data. The writer utilized the sample t test formula to analyze the data. Students who were taught using the Word Detective Strategy scored higher than students who were taught using the Translation Technique, according to the data analysis. The average score of the experimental class was higher than the control class, according to the hypothesis testing calculation. The average score of the experimental class was 74.4 and the average score of the control class was 49.9. It may also be observed that t-test higher than t-table (t test > t table), that was 10.99>2.62 at the significance level 1% and 10.99>1.98 at the significance level 5%. Therefore, Word Detective Strategy had a positive impact on students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of SMK Negeri 7 Bandar Lampung in 2020/2021.
