Abstract

Oral literature is a cultural expression that verbally transmits values from one generation to the next among the community supporters. This oral literature research aims at (1) presenting the stories' plots through the research's primary goal, 2) introducing the characters that appear in the story, (3) outlining the characters in the stories, (4) recognizing and explaining the settings of the stories, and 5) recognizing and defining symbols in the stories based on Yektingtyas's points of view (2016). The approach in this research incorporates literary criticism into secondary and primary qualitative data combined throughout the data collection process. The primary data were analyzed thoroughly, while the secondary data were utilized as references to analyze the primary data. The results show that Ilik was born to a mother under the shade without a father. Initially, the narrative focused solely on the character's day-to-day activities. The folks washing the pig gut rope cast away and flung the dog with the stone when he tried to devour the remaining portion. The pregnant woman and her children arrived in the village the following day to cook the raw pork they had managed to rescue. The portrait of this literary work depicts the characters’ lives and social harmony, allowing them to nurture indigenous values while learning to explore more life lessons from society.

Abstract

This study centered on the Lendawi (The Lanny Tribe Lamentation): Its Structure, Types, and Socio-Cultural Values. This Lendawi, as part of the Lanny culture, should be carried out by the Lanny community. The objectives are (1) to explain the structure of the Lendawi (Lanny lamentation), (2) to find out the type of stanza among the Lanny tribe, (3) to discuss on what occasions the Lendawi (Lanny lamentation) lamented, and (4) to elaborate the socio-cultural values contained in the Lendawi (Lanny lamentation). This research is qualitative because it only gives explanations about a problem in the form of words, not numbers. The writer found a structural pattern in the lendawi structure. Pattern (1) for men: silent trigger (inhale) + men starting pattern (2) for women: silent trigger (inhale) + women starting. Occasion: (1) to mourn the death of twenty-one people; (2) to welcome the new family who has just returned from a foreign land; (3) to release the family member to go overseas; (4) to release a girl to marry and follow her husband; (5) to remember a family member who has died; (6) to thank people for offering; (7) to mourn for a person who looks similar to a family member (dead or alive); and (8) to think about hard work in the garden that used to be shared with other family members (either dead or alive but living in some other place). Types of stanzas range from 3 lines (triplet) up to 12 lines (sonnet) or more. Sociocultural values are as follows: 1. Kinship address, 2. Using local cultural expressions, e.g., “rainfall,” “white, 3. Mount Tari, 4. The Donggi and Konda rivers 5. The Walem bird 6. The Gweage River, 9. The Ugwa River, 12. The Prikokir Bird 13. Abstract

This study analyzes the phenomenon of homophone pyramid language in the Lani Tribe of Papua Pegunungan, revealing that homophones in the Lani language are not merely linguistic coincidences but embody unique phonological patterns and semantic variations deeply connected to the tribe’s cultural and environmental context. Through descriptive linguistic analysis and field-based data collection, the study identifies several instances of lexical homophony such as tu (“door” / “road”), mayu (“rain” / “salt”), nengge (“eat” / “drink”), ngilu (“cucumber” / “snack”), eyo (“tree” / “barren”), kolee (“leader” / “older man”), abila (“pregnant” / “fat man”), and anuka (“head” / “Anuak tribe”). These examples demonstrate that meaning in the Lani language is primarily determined by contextual cues and pragmatic usage. The findings suggest that homophones in Lani function as linguistic features and cultural expressions that reflect the tribe’s perception of nature, community roles, and social identity. This research contributes to a broader understanding of Papuan linguistics and underscores the importance of preserving indigenous languages as repositories of cultural knowledge and intellectual heritage.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out if using the poster may improve the students' English vocabulary at SMA YPPK St. Thomas Wamena. With a one-group pre- and post-test, this study used an experimental design. The research instrument utilized the matching method, in which students were required to match pictures with the corresponding vocabulary items. The study was conducted at SMA YPPK St. Thomas Wamena, selecting the seventh-grade students as the population for the 2025/2026 academic year. The researcher applied a cluster sampling technique and selected 30 students as the research sample. Pre- and post-tests were given in order to gather data. Before and after the treatment, students' initial vocabulary mastery was measured with a pre-test, and their performance was evaluated with a post-test. The independent variable in this study was the use of posters, whereas the dependent variable was students’ vocabulary achievement. The findings of the data analysis of the students' vocabulary knowledge in the pre- and post-tests revealed that the t-test value was 17.40 and the t-table value was 2.045. Students' vocabulary competence improved significantly, as evidenced by the t-test value being greater than the t-table value (17.40 > 2.045). This result implies that the pre- and post-test results varied significantly.
