Abstract

An ability that plays an important role in learning mathematics and physics in the 21st century is mathematical literacy skills. This study aims to analyze the mathematical literacy ability of students using the PhET Simulation-assisted Discovery Learning learning model in Spring Potential Energy material. This type of research is pre-experimental using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were 13 students of class XI MIA SMAK Santa Maria Monte Carmelo Maumere. Students before learning are given an initial test and at the end of learning are given a final test with the same material and form of questions. The pretest and posttest result data were then analyzed using validity tests, reliability tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, paired t-tests, and n-gain calculations with IBM SPSS Statistics 26. This study showed a significant increase in scores after being given physics learning using the Discovery Learning learning model. The Discovery Learning learning model assisted by PhET Simulation is effective in improving students' mathematical literacy skills. This is evidenced by the significant value gains on paired t-tests and n-gain tests are 0.023 and 0.8531 respectively. With this, the Discovery Learning learning model assisted by PhET Simulation can be used as a reference or consideration for teachers to improve students' mathematical literacy skills.

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is considered to be one type of skill that is very essential in the era of technological progress. These skills are the key to creating competitive human resources. Therefore, this research aims to evaluate the extent of students' critical thinking skills regarding the global warming phenomenon which has become a global concern. This research used live worksheet-based E-LKPD and involved 15 Phase E students in the eastern area of Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Discovery learning is applied as a learning model. This research is descriptive with quantitative data and adopts a one shot case study model. The thinking ability indicators assessed include the ability to make simple explanations, further explanations, develop strategies, analyze and evaluate. The results of the research show that students' critical thinking skills are at a low level, with analyzing and evaluating occupying the second lowest position. These findings have important implications, especially in the context of physics learning. Therefore, more innovative learning planning is needed to develop students' analysis and evaluation skills by each teacher.

Abstract

Problem solving ability is an ability that must be mastered by every student in order to be able to solve problems that are often found in every learning activity. Indicators of problem solving include being able to understand the problem, formulate a strategy or resolution plan, resolve the problem according to the plan that has been made and check the answers again. This research aims to analyze students' problem solving abilities in static fluid material assisted by 3D pageflip professional. The method used is descriptive. The research subjects were 21 students in class XI MIPA 2 SMA Negeri 1 Waigete. The instrument used in the research was a 5-question description test. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The research results showed that students had difficulty working on the test questions given on the indicator of checking the answers again and were categorized as low.
