Abstract

Career planning is a fundamental component of students’ development because it shapes their future educational and occupational pathways. In many schools, however, career planning is constrained by limited guidance services, students’ low awareness of their interests and talents, and the scarcity of accessible career information media conditions that can lead to less informed career decisions. This study addresses a gap in prior digital career media, which often provide generic information without integrating a validated interest, talent mapping process, and counselor support functions; the novelty of the proposed application lies in combining interest talent profiling with personalized career information and counselor oriented features, thereby contributing conceptually to a data-informed and personalized model of digital based career guidance. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), data were collected through observations, interviews, a Student Career Media Needs Survey, and expert validations of content, design, and language. The findings indicate that the developed interest,  and talent, based career information application achieved a very valid rating in both content relevance and usability. The application enables students to explore their strengths, identify suitable career options, and access information on study programs across universities. Moreover, its digital format supports guidance counselors in identifying students’ potentials earlier and delivering more personalized career planning assistance. Overall, this application offers an effective and engaging tool for integrating technology into school based career guidance and making career exploration more meaningful, interactive, and aligned with contemporary learners’ needs.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of group guidance services with self-management techniques on increasing the learning independence of SMP Negeri 8 Pekanbaru students. The approach used is quantitative with the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design experimental design. The research sample consisted of 9 grade VIII students who had a low level of learning independence based on the results of the initial questionnaire. Data collection was carried out using a Liker-based learning independence scale which included five main aspects: self-motivation, time management, learning strategies, critical thinking skills, and social and emotional skills. Data analysis was carried out through the Wilcoxon test and the normalized N-Gain test . The results showed a significant increase in students' learning independence after being provided with group guidance services with self-management techniques, with an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.008 (< 0.05) and an average N-Gain score  of 0.59 which was in the medium category. All aspects of learning independence have increased, especially in self-motivation (38.89%) and learning strategies (33.34%). These findings show that the application of group tutoring services with self-management techniques is effective in helping students develop the ability to organize, control, and motivate themselves to learn independently, disciplinedly, and responsibly for their learning process.

Abstract

School refusal behavior is characterized by a student’s reluctance or lack of motivation to attend school due to emotional difficulties and discomfort experienced within the school environment. This behavior requires timely intervention to prevent adverse academic, social, and personal outcomes. This study examined the effect of group counseling employing self-management techniques on reducing school refusal behavior among students at SMAN 15 Pekanbaru. A quantitative quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was used. Using purposive sampling, eight eleventh-grade students who scored in the moderate to high range on a school-refusal screening questionnaire were selected. Pretest and posttest scores were compared using the Wilcoxon matched-pairs test, which indicated a statistically significant difference (p = 0.012). Intervention effectiveness was evaluated by mean N-Gain (0.52), indicating a moderate effect. The findings suggest that group counseling with self-management techniques can reduce school refusal behavior in the sampled population. Limitations include the small sample size and absence of a control group, which restrict generalizability. Further research with larger, controlled samples and investigation of precipitating factors and available support systems is recommended.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of group counseling services using cognitive restructuring techniques in reducing Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) among students at SMA X Pekanbaru. The study employed a One Group Pretest-Posttest experimental method involving 6 students with high FoMO levels. Data were collected through a valid and reliable FoMO questionnaire (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.722). After participating in six counseling sessions, the results of the Wilcoxon and N-Gain analyses indicated a significant reduction in FoMO levels. The cognitive restructuring technique helped students transform irrational thoughts into more rational ones and improve self-control in social media use. Therefore, group counseling services using cognitive restructuring techniques were proven effective in reducing students’ FoMO levels.

Abstract

Students’ difficulties in understanding self-harm as a maladaptive behavior and the unavailability of systematic, engaging, and user-friendly informational media for school counselors formed the background of this study. This study aimed to develop a digital pocket book on self-harm as a structured and practical supporting medium for guidance and counseling services. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, but the development process was limited to the implementation stage. The research subjects consisted of material experts, media experts, and 10 students as practicality assessors. Data were collected using validation sheets and practicality questionnaires and were analyzed descriptively using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results showed that the digital pocket book was categorized as highly valid based on media expert assessment, with a percentage of 98.7%, and valid based on material expert assessment, with a percentage of 80.5%. In addition, the practicality test conducted by students showed that the product was highly practical, with a percentage of 92.8%. Therefore, the digital pocket book on self-harm is considered feasible and practical as a supporting medium in guidance and counseling services. This medium can assist school counselors in providing psychoeducational services and help students understand self-harm and its prevention more appropriately.
