This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation and beginning reading tests. The results showed that the implementation of the spinning wheel media integrated with the TGT model increased students’ learning activities and demonstrated positive development in reading accuracy, pronunciation, intonation, fluency, and voice clarity. Thus, the media and learning model had a positive impact on the process and outcomes of beginning reading instruction

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low initial reading ability of second-grade students of SD Negeri 15 Banda Aceh. This study aims to determine the improvement of teacher activity, student activity, and student learning outcomes through the application of the play method assisted by the alphabet letter clock media. This study uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach which is implemented in two cycles, each of which consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were all 37 second-grade students of SD Negeri 15 Banda Aceh, consisting of 16 female students and 21 male students. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation and performance tests, while data analysis used quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques. The results of the study showed that teacher activity increased to reach the very good category. Student activity also increased significantly, as indicated by the increase in student activity, participation, and involvement in the learning process. In addition, student learning outcomes in initial reading ability increased from cycle I to cycle II, with an average value increasing from 79.08 to 90.03, and learning completeness reaching the very good category. This increase indicates that the application of the play method assisted by the alphabet letter clock media is able to create more active, interesting, and effective learning in improving students' initial reading skills. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the application of the play method assisted by the alphabet letter clock media is effective in improving learning activities and initial reading skills of class II students of SD Negeri 15 Banda Aceh.

Abstract

The low listening skills of students are still a problem in Indonesian language learning, one of which is caused by the use of less varied learning media so that learning becomes less interesting and students have difficulty in understanding the content of the story. This study aims to determine the effect of using animated video media based on the CapCut application on the listening skills of fourth-grade students of SD Negeri Garot Aceh Besar. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental research type and a nonequivalent control group design. The study population was 70 students, with a sample of class IV-C as the experimental class and class IV-A as the control class. The data collection technique used a listening skills test given through a pretest and posttest. Data analysis was carried out using the N-Gain test, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and the Mann–Whitney U test. The results showed that the average listening skills of students in the experimental class increased from 25.57 to 80.71, while in the control class it increased from 23.43 to 46.57. The average N-Gain value of the experimental class was 0.74 with a high category and the control class was 0.30 with a medium category. The Mann–Whitney U test results showed a significance value of 0.001 < 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of animated video media based on the CapCut application significantly impacted the listening skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri Garot, Aceh Besar. Animated video media based on the CapCut application can be an alternative Indonesian language learning medium to improve students' listening skills.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the essential competencies that need to be developed in elementary school students. However, students’ critical thinking skills in Indonesian language learning are still relatively low because learning activities tend to be teacher-centered and provide limited opportunities for students to actively discuss and express their ideas. Therefore, an appropriate learning model is needed to facilitate students’ active participation in the learning process. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Literature Circle model in developing the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students in Indonesian language learning on fictional story materials at SD Negeri 4 Banda Aceh. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach involving 20 fifth-grade students as research subjects. Data were collected through observation and essay tests. Observation was used to examine students’ learning activities and critical thinking skills during the learning process, while the essay test was administered to measure students’ critical thinking skills after the implementation of the Literature Circle model. The results revealed that students’ learning activities were categorized as very good with an average score of 4.00. Students’ critical thinking skills based on observation obtained an average score of 3.33 and were categorized as good. Furthermore, the test results showed an average score of 84.25, which was categorized as high, with 100% classical mastery learning. These findings indicate that the Literature Circle model contributes positively to the development of students’ critical thinking skills in Indonesian language learning.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of students' critical thinking skills in learning explanatory texts. Students experienced difficulties in identifying facts, understanding cause-and-effect relationships, generating alternative solutions, and drawing conclusions from the information they obtained. Therefore, an engaging learning medium that suits the characteristics of elementary school students is needed, one of which is comic strips. This study aimed to describe students' learning activities during the use of comic strip media, examine the utilization of comic strip media in fostering students' critical thinking skills, and describe the results of students' critical thinking skills tests on explanatory text material in the fifth grade of SD Negeri Lamsayuen, Aceh Besar. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research subjects consisted of 24 fifth-grade students of SD Negeri Lamsayuen, Aceh Besar. Data were collected through classroom observations and written tests developed based on critical thinking indicators, namely identifying facts, generating alternatives, understanding cause-and-effect relationships, and drawing conclusions. The data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the use of comic strip media increased students' active participation during the learning process. Students showed greater enthusiasm for learning, demonstrated a better understanding of explanatory texts, and were able to identify important information and cause-and-effect relationships presented in the learning materials. The results of the critical thinking skills test indicated an average score of 87%, which falls into the very high category. Therefore, comic strip media can be effectively utilized to support students' critical thinking skills in learning explanatory texts while creating a more engaging, interactive, meaningful, and participatory learning environment for elementary school students.
