Abstract

The implementation of counseling about the importance of health protocols during the pandemic was carried out at the Al-Kaaf Jabung Orphanage, Malang Regency. The equipment used is a laptop, hand sanitizer, masks, and soap for washing hands. The method of this counseling is the tutorial through the zoom meeting application, followed by the students and orphanage administrators, because it is still in the pandemic period. The speakers in this activity are the teaching staff of the Electrical Engineering Department, State Polytechnic of Malang who in this case are members of this PkM activity and are assisted by students of State Polytechnic of Malang. The results of this dedication, it is hoped that the participants apply 5M in their daily life so that they can break the chain of the spread of COVID-19.

Abstract

Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengatasi tantangan yang dihadapi oleh peternak bebek di Desa Sidorahayu, Wagir, Malang, khususnya ketidak efisienan sistem pemberian pakan dan minum secara manual yang memakan waktu, memerlukan banyak tenaga kerja, dan rentan terhadap pemborosan pakan serta kontaminasi. Pendekatan yang digunakan melibatkan proses sistematis yang meliputi survei lapangan untuk mengidentifikasi masalah, desain dan pembuatan perangkat pemberian pakan dan minum otomatis, uji coba lapangan, pelatihan, dan pembimbingan bagi petani lokal. Perangkat tersebut dirancang dengan sistem kontrol sederhana untuk mengatur distribusi pakan dan air sesuai jadwal, didukung oleh sensor dan mikrokontroler untuk memastikan efisiensi dan keandalan. Sesi pelatihan satu hari diadakan untuk membekali petani dengan keterampilan mengoperasikan, memelihara, dan mengatasi masalah sistem. Hasilnya menunjukkan perbaikan signifikan, termasuk pengurangan tenaga kerja dan waktu hingga 50%, pengurangan pemborosan pakan, peningkatan higiene dan kesehatan hewan, serta peningkatan pengetahuan petani tentang teknologi yang sesuai. Program ini tidak hanya memberikan solusi praktis bagi peternakan mitra tetapi juga menawarkan model yang dapat direplikasi untuk penerapan yang lebih luas dalam manajemen ternak skala kecil, sehingga berkontribusi pada peningkatan produktivitas dan kesejahteraan petani.

Abstract

The pepper drying process is generally carried out conventionally under inefficient sunlight and is dependent on the weather. This study aims to analyze the performance of an automatic sieving system in a greenhouse-based pepper dryer that uses solar panels as an energy source. The main innovation of this study is the implementation of an automatic sieving mechanism to ensure even heat distribution during the drying process. The system is controlled by an Arduino Uno microcontroller with input from DHT22 sensors for temperature and humidity, and a load cell to detect weight loss of the material. A servo motor is used to move the sieve at certain intervals. Tests were conducted under two conditions, namely with and without automatic sieving, using a 60 W incandescent lamp at an average temperature of 55°C. The results showed that the automatic sieving system accelerated the drying time by up to 1 hour and 30 minutes faster than the static system. 100 grams of wet pepper was successfully dried to 75.88 grams in 7 hours, with a water content reduction of approximately 24%. These results indicate that the automatic sieving system effectively increases heat transfer efficiency and accelerates the drying process without additional external electrical energy.
