This ritual usually carried aot as form of appreciation for people who have died by chanting badong poems containing an expression of lamentation, prayers and biographies of people who have returned to puang daring their life until they die. The procces of maâ badong carried out ini Kendary City is not much different from badong in Toraja because it does not change the value contained in the ritual. The only difference is the approval or agreement of the church and family so that the ritual is very rarely carried out. This happens because the family of the deceased has embraced Christianity and no longer embraces all todo lo (belief of the ancestors) so that ritual can be carried out if it has received approval from the family and the church. Likewise, the uniform used by parading in Kendari city is not restricted/free compared to the paâ badong in Toraja who always wears a uniform equipped with a hat. this due to the economic factor of the deceasedâ family which is not sufficient to finance all the needs of badong. Indeed, badong can be chanted at night after the consolation service after obtaining approval from family and church.

Abstract

This research aims to know and describe the Church and Rambu Solo' Ritual in Toraja culture from the perspective of the church outside the Toraja Church towards the implementation of the ritual itself, especially among the Toraja people. This research uses Radcliffe-Brown's (1987) structuralism theory. The selection of informants in this study used purposive sampling technique, while the data collection techniques used in this study used observation and in-depth interviews. The results show the views of churches outside the Toraja Church towards the implementation of the rambu solo ritual in Tana Toraja, where the Kibaid Church and the Pentecostal Church in Indonesia (GpdI) view the rambu solo ritual as (1) a ritual that is not in line with God's word and violates church regulations, (2) a ritual that can cause debt burden, (3) does not describe the real atmosphere of grief. The existence of this view raises implications for the two churches themselves, namely in its application it can save costs, does not violate God's word, and does not require a lot of time.

Abstract

This study explores the role of women in the Tolaki traditional marriage ceremony and the perspectives of men and women on this role. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive method and draws on socialist feminism theory. The findings reveal that women play a crucial role in various stages of the marriage customs. For instance, during the Mondutudu or proposal stage, the mother of the male/female side accompanies the family during the proposal. After the proposal, the bride-to-be is guided by a Tono Motuo or Female Traditional Leader, often the grandmother, who provides valuable advice for the future household. Additionally, women play a central role during the engagement ceremony, as they arrange for the treat of sekapur sirih Kalo Sara. The male party presents this treat through the Pabitara, which is then received by the woman. These customs highlight the important role women have in the Tolaki traditional marriage ceremony.
