Abstract

As a country with the largest Moslem population, the workplace in Indonesia generally provides a place and time for the workers to perform their religious obligation, mainly for performing Sholat. The purpose of this literatures study was to probe several aspect of Islamic teaching and ritual from the scientific perspective which is  then able to be optimized its benefit for the work, in addition for religious intention, mainly in the management of occupational stress. Stress itself arises in the interaction between people and their environment, and coping strategy will determine how well they manage the stress. In summary, the result show that the types of stress according to the theory of Lasarus can be harmonized with the coping strategy based on Islamic teachings in Al Quran, especially in the Surah Al-Inshirah verses 1 through 8. Another important finding was that Sholat activity provides two physiological benefits, i.e. stimulates the relaxation of brainwaves and increase the muscle flexibility. Whereas, the suggestion to perform Sholat berjamaah or praying in group is in harmony with the collective culture of Indonesia, especially related to the value of silaturahmi or friendship and hospitality. Therefore, performing Sholat berjamaah during work is also able to strengthen the relationship between employees which might be utilized to express their emotion or even psychological burden. However, study in this  area still need to be improved to find other alignments that can optimize the role and benefits of religious activity in the workplace.

Abstract

Workplace with poor in lighting directly influences the emergence of eyestrain among workers. In long term exposure, it may be resulted in occupational stress, increase the psychological burden and even lead to depression among workers. This study tested whether the particular color of lighting influence work performance. 25 participants were involved in this experimental study that had been performed at Human Factor Engineering Laboratory of Hochschule Niederrhein. Three color combinations of light were provided as independent variable, namely white-white, white-pink, and white-blue. Schätzskalen zum kurzfristigen Beanspruchungserleben (Scale for short-term stress estimation) from Hacker et al. was utilized to measure several aspects of work performance as dependent variable, particularly performance efficiency, achievement motivation, and concentration during work. Analysis of variance resulted that there is no difference in the performance between the lighting color groups on the second stage of the experiment. One Factorial Analysis further resulted in the difference on work performance within subjects which indicates the increasing performance of each experimental stage. And last, by Two Factorial Analysis,  the result indicated that there are differences between the gender groups at each stage of the experiment in terms of concentration and working motivation. The mean difference between gender groups shows that female’s groups have higher concentration levels. Whereas, the male’s group is higher in terms of work motivation. Considering the contribution of lighting for human performance, It is necessary to consider the quality of light in the workplace, not only in terms of illumination level but also the color of light.

Abstract

Translation of a psychological measuring instrument is one of the harmonization efforts towards a cultural context, especially in terms of language. The process is not just utilizing the sophistication of translator technology, but also need to do an evaluation of the accuracy of a translation. This article aims to measure the degree of quality of early translation accuracy of a psychological measuring instrument, i.e. KFZA that measures work stress. KFZA itself stands for Kurz-Fragebogen zur Arbeitsanalyse that is developed by Prumper, Hartmannsgruber and Frese in the German language. The result indicated that the coefficient of Cohen’s kappa (k) is .458 and it represents a weak of agreement between the two raters, although it is reliable at the 0.05 level. Since initial translation is a critical step of psychological test translation and adaptation, competence qualifications of each rater and the equivalence of competencies between raters are very important.

Abstract

Industrial fields of Indonesia are facing challenging issues of energy sustainability. As the country’s second-largest energy consumer behind the transportation sector, industrial’s consumption is massively dominated by non-renewable energy and the lack of adequate energy waste management. Organizations need to build employee readiness to change toward energy sustainability. Leadership is reasonably a significant predictor of organizational change readiness (RtC). Religious commitment (RC) emerges as a personal motivator for pro-environmental behaviour because individuals perceive looking after nature and the environment as adhering to religious values and teachings. The society of Indonesia views religiosity as a virtue and values social hierarchy as one of the most substantial social structures. Accordingly, this study aims to examine the predictive roles of leadership and RC on organizational RtC and the features in communicating both predictors in change leadership. A mix-method approach was carried out by delivering questionnaires (N=257), conducting interviews, and focus group discussions with 35 managers and employees in the textile industry. A significant influence of leadership on RtC is found, strengthened by the impact of RC. Qualitative findings depicted religious meanings of energy sustainability and how leaders communicate their religiosity in employee behavioral changes.

Abstract

The Cembengan ceremony is a Slametan tradition commonly practised by sugar factories before the milling season. This ritual is a prayer for high productivity and excellent safety performance in the workplace during the milling process. Wayang is then played as the highlight of the event with Semar Mbangun Kahyangan as one of the usually performed stories. This study seeks to answer this question: What are the traditional safety concepts staged in the Slametan tradition in the workplace? This study used a content analysis approach to identify, analyse, and categorise the recording data of a wayang performance with the story of Semar Mbangun Kahyangan performed by Ki Dalang Hadi Soegito. This study has found that besides human destiny had been written by God, the meaning of Safety can be pursued through a multidimensional harmony, known as manunggaling kawula-Gusti (vertical harmony), silaturahmi (horisontal harmony), the harmony among five knights of Pandawa as a symbol of the physical harmony of five senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch) and psychological-spiritual harmony. The second finding is that a safety attitude is fostered in line with human development, which is symbolised in Wayang's storyline, first, on the Pathet Enem (infancy to adolescent) safety attitude generated by right-wrong consideration. Second, a safety attitude is an ethical decision within Pathet Sanga (early to middle adulthood). Last, at Pathet Mayura (late adulthood), a safety attitude is a spiritual achievement.
