Abstract

Organic waste, one of which is leaves from various trees, is material that is not reused and has use value, as is the potential that exists in Kedungpoh Village, Loano District, Purworejo Regency, Central Java. Based on the results of observations made by the service team, there are several problems, namely 1) lack of student awareness of the importance of organic waste management, 2) lack of student understanding of how to sort organic waste. Therefore, the objectives of this service activity are 1) to raise student awareness about the importance of managing organic waste, 2) providing outreach and training in utilizing organic waste into creative work. This socialization and training activity consists of four stages, namely planning, implementation, implementation results, and evaluation stage. The method for this service is carried out by distributing questionnaires before and after socialization and training activities. The results of the questionnaire before training on question number 1 got an average score of 2. Questions numbers 2,3,4 and 5 got an average score of 2.1, thus showing that students' understanding, knowledge and experience in managing organic waste is still minimal. The results of the questionnaire after the training were that question number 1 got an average score of 3.7. Question number 2 got an average score of 3.8. Meanwhile, questions number 3,4 and 5 received an average score of 3.6, indicating that students' understanding and experience as well as students' creativity after socialization and training had increased significantly.

Abstract

This research was conducted at SD Negeri Pangenrejo 2 with the aim of knowing whether the learning method using a contextual approach had been applied in the elementary school or not, especially in science learning and how the students responded when using a contextual approach learning method. The learning model with a contextual approach is a learning approach that can link learning materials with the problems faced by students in real life both in the family, school, or community environment. Learning methods using a contextual approach can make students more active because students have to find out information about learning materials independently. By using contextual learning, learning will be more meaningful and real, learning will be more fun and less boring, and learning will be more productive. The research method used in this study is a qualitative research method with data collection by observation, interviews, and teaching simulations in accordance with the lesson plans that have been made. The result of this research is that learning using contextual learning methods has not been fully implemented in every science lesson, because not all materials can be applied using contextual learning methods. The response of students when using contextual learning methods is that students do not feel bored when learning and better understand the learning material being taught and can relate it to problems that exist in everyday life.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) determine the implementation of the Mind Mapping method in the topic of kingdoms in Grade IV at SDN Kepatihan; (2) determine the improvement of students' learning motivation in the topic of kingdoms in Grade IV at SDN Kepatihan; and (3) determine the improvement of students' learning outcomes in the topic of kingdoms in Grade IV at SDN Kepatihan. This research is a Classroom Action Research. The core concept of action research according to Lewin consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The study was conducted in two cycles involving 28 students. The data collection techniques used were qualitative (in the form of observation of learning implementation) and quantitative, including: (1) the percentage of learning implementation using the mind mapping method, (2) the percentage of learning motivation using a questionnaire, and (3) improvement in learning outcomes obtained through tests in each cycle. The results of this study show that: (1) The implementation of the mind mapping method was successful, with an average percentage of 70% (good category) in Cycle I and 85% (very good category) in Cycle II; (2) Students’ learning motivation in the IPAS subject on the topic of kingdoms increased from an average of 67.09% (good category) in Cycle I to 79.01% (good category) in Cycle II; (3) Students’ learning outcomes increased from an average score of 59.28 (fair category) in Cycle I to 79.45 (good category) in Cycle II. It can be concluded that the mind mapping method can improve students’ motivation and learning outcomes.
