Abstract

The Airbenakat Formation is a sandstone reservoir which is one of the oil reservoirs located in Sumatra and is part of the South Sumatra Basin. The mineral composition of the sandstone reservoir in the Airbenakat Formation consists of quartz minerals as rock grains, clay as matrix and is often identified as cement, while carbonate as rock cement. Based on lithofacies observations, the depositional environment of the Airbenakat Formation consists of: Volcanic Alluvial Fan, Lake, Braid Bar, Braided Channel, Braid Deltaic Environment, Mud Flat, Tidal Sand Bar, Tidal Environment, Shallow Sea, and Deep Sea. This research was conducted on 2 (two) oil fields, namely MRP dan TPN which have different depositional environments but are included in the Airbenakat Formation as part of the South Sumatra Basin. The analyzes used in this study include X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis, petrography, and Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (SEM/EDX). Analysis of the mineralogical content of the Airbenakat Formation will assist to determine the performance of chemical injections such as injection of anionic surfactant. The anionic surfactant used for chemical injection in Airbenakat Formations will be optimal if the content of smectite and calcite minerals can be ascertained. The presence of smectite and calcite minerals will affect the results of anionic surfactant injection. This research shows the results of anionic surfactant injection on the presence of smectite and carbonate in the injected core.

Abstract

Mud hydraulics on a 12-1/4" section needs to be planned properly. Mud hydraulics design on a 12-1/4" section includes determining mud density, flow type, pressure loss, pump specifications, bit hydraulics and cutting lifting design. The purpose of bit hydraulics design is to determine the optimum flow rate. Mud hydraulics optimization is carried out using methods the Bit Hydraulic Horse Power (BHHP), Bit Hydraulic Impact (BHI) and Jet Velocity (JV) methods, where the analysis is in the form of graphs. The graph is analyzed by using a trial and error method to obtain the recommended flow rate so as to provide good cutting lifting. where the expected recommendation analysis are Cutting Transport Ratio (Ft) > 90%, Cutting Concentration (Ca) < 5%, and Carrying Capacity Index (CCI) > 1. The analysis results from the graph show that for the hole 12-1/4", it is recommended to use an optimum flow rate of 626.6 gpm with minimum value of Ft is 90.01%, Ca is 0.87% and CCI is 1.95. These values are stated to be good by using 15-15-16 nozzle bit combination. The Flowrate value can be increased up to 785 gpm by using 18-18-20 nozzle bit combination.. Keywords: Hydraulic Mud Planning, Optimum Flow Rate, Cuttings Removal.

Abstract

Drilling cost components including rig, casing and accessories, well surface equipment, drilling mud, bits, cementing, and casing installation substantially influence the overall drilling cost. The One Phase Well (OPW) design is implemented by eliminating the surface casing, which is conventionally applied in casing designs for wells in the ZAZ Field. This study evaluates drilling parameters such as well data, well trajectory, pore pressure–fracture gradient, drilling time, material usage, and drilling costs. A well profile analysis is conducted to compare the Three Phase Well (TPW) and One Phase Well (OPW) designs. Analysis of drilling time, materials, and drilling costs is carried out to evaluate the cost reduction difference between the Three Phase Well (TPW) method and the One Phase Well (OPW) method. The OPW design reduces rig rental costs by 34.9%, bit costs by 53.9%, casing costs by 20.5%, wellhead costs by 8.7%, and mud costs by 3.7%. In contrast, cementing costs increase by 0.7%, and casing installation incurs an additional cost of USD 24,017. Overall, the total drilling cost difference between OPW and TPW amounts to USD 68,633, with OPW achieving a 12.7% reduction in overall drilling costs compared to TPW.

Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes the porosity characteristics of Pliocene limestone from the Mundu Formation in the Gunung Pegat area, Lamongan, East Java, which lies within the Rembang Zone and is considered a potential carbonate reservoir. The research involved geological field mapping, measurement of four stratigraphic profiles, and collection of thirteen rock samples. Laboratory methods included petrographic analysis to classify lithofacies, core analysis to determine porosity, calcimetry for carbonate content, and microfossil analysis for age and depositional environment. Petrographic results show dominant packstone and wackestone lithologies, with pore types consisting of interparticle, moldic, and vuggy pores formed through bioclast dissolution and diagenesis. Core analysis reveals porosity values ranging from 1.5% to 22.1%, averaging 13.6%. High-porosity zones (>20%) occur in the western and northwestern parts, associated with bioclast-rich facies and meteoric water dissolution, whereas low values (<10%) are concentrated in the southeastern part due to compaction and recrystallization. These findings indicate that lithofacies variation and diagenetic processes significantly control reservoir quality. Overall, the Mundu Formation demonstrates good potential as a carbonate reservoir, particularly within packstone facies with well-developed secondary porosity, providing a useful basis for hydrocarbon and groundwater exploration in the northern East Java Basin.

Abstract

This research was conducted in the Gunung Pegat area, Babat District, Bojonegoro Regency, East Java. The geographical coordinates of the research location are from 7°7′31″ to 7°8′11″ South Latitude and 112°9′46″ to 112°8′54″ East Longitude. Geologically, it is part of the Rembang Zone and is composed of the Mundu Limestone Formation. The research location is one of the sites that shows an outcrop of the Mundu Formation, with limestone lithology that has the potential to be a reservoir rock. The objective of the research is to study the porosity and permeability characteristics and to evaluate the potential of the limestone as a reservoir rock. The methods used include geological mapping, rock sampling, calcimetry analysis, petrographic analysis, and determination of porosity and permeability values. The results show that the geomorphological units of the research area are divided into anthropogenic, karstic, and fluvial landforms. The rock units at the research location are divided into a limestone unit and a fluvial unit; specifically, the limestone is classified as packstone and wackestone based on calcimetry and petrographic analysis. The stratigraphic sequence from the oldest to the youngest is the Miocene-aged Mundu Limestone Unit and the Holocene-aged Alluvial Unit. The average porosity value of the research area is 30.38%, which falls into the 'excellent' category, and the permeability value is 236.70 mD, which is classified as 'very good,' indicating that the research area has potential as a reservoir.
