Abstract

This research focuses on the process of political elite capture which is associated with the current political context and the dialogic space that occurs in the narrative text of the folklore Asal Usul Raja Negeri Jambi (AURNJ) [The Origins of the King of Jambi]. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The data were obtained from the recording and documentation of Jambi folklore 2: Asal Usul Raja Negeri Jambi (AURNJ) by Kaslani (1997). The results of the analysis produce several conclusions. First, there are symptoms of the political phenomenon of elite capture of village elders in perpetuating their power in the election of the King of Jambi. Second, this phenomenon also fostered the practice of dynastic familism. In the belief of village elders, the king must be chosen from their lineage, meaning that people in their circle are worthy to be king. Third, the deadlock in finding a leader figure was experienced by village elitist elders in the political contestation of the election of the king. This stalemate then awakened the elite village elders to open equal participatory dialogue spaces. This is nothing but to open up opportunities for candidates for kingship outside their circle of power. Fourth, the paradox of elite capture political dynamics in AURNJ's story describes a situation similar to contemporary political phenomena, namely the thirst for power and building political dynasties for personal and group interests as a security strategy and perpetuation of the arena of exposure to power.

Abstract

Research on livelihood systems tends to focus on livelihood assets, the transformation of structures, processes, and livelihood outcomes. During disasters, livelihood systems are disrupted, and various socio-economic issues may arise if not properly addressed. This research provides a perspective on social-economic mitigation institutions in the context of community livelihood systems in disaster-prone areas. The research advocates the need for economic mitigation institutions in vulnerable communities in disaster-prone regions. The framework of these economic mitigation institutions emphasizes economic commodification schemes. This research examines the institutional dynamics communities implement in economic mitigation as part of their livelihood systems in disaster-prone regions. This research adopts a qualitative constructivist approach to construct a new conceptual framework for disaster mitigation. Data is collected through in-depth interviews and focused group discussions (FGDs). The findings show that various insights provide potential solutions for disaster-prone livelihood systems based on theoretical analysis and empirical findings from disaster-prone areas in Indonesia. Economic mitigation institutions are crucial for vulnerable communities and essential for sustainable development. Moreover, communities residing in disaster-prone areas naturally develop survival strategies by utilizing available resources.

Abstract

Land data quality plays a pivotal role in advancing modern land administration, impacting both national economic growth and Indonesia’s competitive position in the global property index, where it currently ranks 106th in Ease of Doing Business. This research focuses on the need for systematic quality improvements in both physical (spatial) and juridical (textual) land data within the West Jakarta City Administration to address existing data deficiencies. Applying the Driver-Pressures-States-Impacts-Responses (DPSIR) framework, this study investigates key challenges, causal factors, and strategic interventions aimed at enhancing land data quality. In-depth interviews with stakeholders were conducted to elucidate these dynamics and inform the proposed strategies. The findings highlight the successful digitization and validation of 94.52% of 423,189 Land Book records, 69.03% of 494,071 Ownership Rights Plans/Measurement Letters, and the spatial data of 94.68% across 427,569 land parcels, thereby improving the Data Quality Classification (KW) across categories 4–6. This study underscores the critical importance of robust data validation processes in modernizing Indonesia’s Land Administration System (LAS), offering valuable insights for enhancing the efficiency, transparency, and reliability of land data, thereby supporting economic development and improving Indonesia’s standing in the global property market.
