Abstract

Gelgel is a village located in Klungkung regency, Bali. The landscape has a long historical background that can be traced back to the Bali kingdom era. The Gelgel cultural landscape has been certainly experienced changes from time to time. From the landscape architecture perspective, the socio-cultural changes throughtout the time will create spatial patterns that relates with the spatial functions. The imprint a spatial pattern can be useful for present and future spatial planning and space utilization. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out research to identify the types of cultural landscapes as well as the layout and function of cultural landscape spaces in Gelgel Village. The research uses qualitative methods to direct the process of data collection techniques that are observation, in-depth interviews, and literature study. This research aims to find the spatial layout and functions based on the indentified cultural landscape in Gelgel village. The research shows that the cultural landscape in Gelgel Village consists of four major cultural elements that are social systems and organizations, livelihoods, arts, and religious systems and ceremonies. Those cultural elements found can be categorized into tangible and intangible cultural landscapes. Laying out the identified cultural landscapes spatially shows that the modern Gelgel village spatial pattern is centered. Even though the pattern is centralistic, the area division is still based on parahyangan, pawongan, and palemahan zoning system imbued from the Balinese philosophy Tri Hita Karana. Each area functions according to the Tri Hita Karana philosophy that guides the Balinese harmonious life with God, people, and the environment.

Abstract

Tanean Lanjhang is a collection of houses owned by several families who are intertwined. At this time, many new houses have emerged that are no longer built based on the Tanean Lanjhang concept. This is due to the increase in population so that automatically the available land is getting narrower. The purpose of this study is to find out how the development of the Tanean Lanjhang spatial pattern and its variations today in Sumenep Regency. The method used in this research is a survey method by collecting data using observation techniques, interviews and literature study. The results of this study indicate that nowadays a lot of Tanean Lanjhang have undergone major changes in the shape of the house because the homeowners wanted a more comfortable home. There needs to be an effort to preserve this concept by including lessons on local architecture in the design curriculum, architects and landscape architects must also apply local wisdom in their designs, and the role of the government is also needed in establishing policies regarding the application of local wisdom in development in the regions.

Abstract

. An animated visual media contains design ideas and works as a media for a landscape architect to communicate with clients. This research aims to analyze and describe the audiences's perceptions in giving meanings based on their understanding on the animated Green Open Space Design of Sudirman Campus, Udayana University. This study applies a qualitative research method. Data were collected from in-depth interview process with some respondents. The respondents are considered as audiences whom are categorized into structural officials and project managers related from Udayana University. The respondents responses were analyzed using visual communication theory. The analysis covers the animated visual product and audiences reception towards the green open space design understanding based on the meaning of the message delivered by the animated visual, and finally clarifying the position of the meaning of the message. The result shows that visual power through the application of animation techniques, namely solid drawing, story board, sound effects and motion graphics can influence audience in creating their own meaning toward design ideas messages delivered. There are also differences in the audience's meaning position, namely the opposition position and the accepting position.

Abstract

Sarinah Building in Jakarta provides an active open space located at the building's frontage. This open space has a variety of activities and also the main access for pedestrian visitors. It might potentially have an impact on pedestrian accessibility and comfort when accessing the Sarinah Building. This research aims to formulate the relationship between pedestrian visitor behavior and the presence of open space on the frontage of the Sarinah Building. This research uses mixed method research with observation, survey, and literature review, where the results will be analyzed to understand the perceptions and behaviors of pedestrians. The result is open space at frontage positively impacts pedestrians with its continuity, proximity, spatial connectivity, readable, safety, cleanliness, green, attractiveness, and experiences. Apart from features and plants, various activities in open spaces are related to pedestrian behavior which makes it accessible and comfortable for pedestrians to access the Sarinah Building. This research can be used to consider the use of open space at the frontage as an active open space that makes accessible and comfortable for pedestrians.
