Abstract

The conversion of an area's land cover can provide social and economic benefits for the area but also often has important impacts on the environment. Thus, knowledge and skills in reading land cover change maps from satellite images are very important for Environmental Science students. Work practice for students of the Mataram University Environmental Studies Program was carried out at the West Lombok PUPR Service with the aim of increasing knowledge and skills about reading, analyzing and interpreting land cover change maps through geographic information systems, especially for the irrigation areas of Gebong and Sesaot, West Lombok. Work practice was carried out using lecture, simulations, and practice with assistance methods The results show that participant was proficient in reading, analyzing and interpreting land cover change maps using both the maxilum likelihood method and the manual digitization method. From the results of work practices using the maximum likelihood and manual digitization method, it was known that in the Gebong irrigation area from 2018 to 2023 there will be a reduction in the area of 3% (3%) of paddy fields, 1% (4%) of vegetated land, and an increase of 3 (8%) of built-up land. In the Sesaot irrigation area, there was a reduction in the area of vegetated land by 10% (6%), an increase in the area of rice fields by 8% (3%), and built-up land by 2% (2%). It had been confirmed that the built-up land in the two irrigation areas consists of residential and industrial lands.

Abstract

The ship propulsion system generally consists of 3 (three) main components, namely: main engine, transmission system and propulsor. The ship's power propulsion transmission system in general starts from the main engine to the gearbox, shaft, stern tube for the shaft and shaft bearings, and propeller. The research aims to obtain the ship's main propulsion engine and propulsion transmission system components to be installed on the ship of Polbeng II that to be built. The planning of ship propulsion engine and its systems on ships needs to be done in order to obtain engine power and transmission systems that are in accordance with the propulsion needs of the ships being built. The planned ship is a passenger ship with the main size of the ship, Lpp = 9.8 m, B = 1.8 m, H = 1 m, T = 0.6 m and a speed of 21 knots. The results of the calculations are obtained, with a ship resistance of 5.7 kN, the main engine power is 98 HP. In the transmission system, the gearbox, shaft, bearings and propeller are installed from the main engine, with a gearbox ratio (1:3) and a propeller shaft size that is installed 1 3⁄4”.   Keywords: propulsion system, engine power, transmission system, shaft

Abstract

This research aims to examine and explore the construction of a legal culture model for monitoring social movements to prevent money politics through social media and describe forms of legal protection for this movement. From the experience of previous simultaneous elections and local elections, various problems remain, one of which is money politics. Money politics is considered a differentiation mechanism for contestants to provide more value than other contestants in order to pursue personal votes. The factors vary, from weak religious culture, strong kinship culture, and paternalistic culture. This research provides a prevention model by utilizing social media such as Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Instagram as a tool for social movements to prevent the practice of money politics. The type of research used is empirical research, namely research with field data as the main data source. The results of this research show that there are two models of cultural construction of legal supervision of social movements to prevent money politics through social media, namely the formation of anti-money politics citizen forums based on social media and creating anti-money politics fosters on social media. Meanwhile, the form of protection for this movement is to strengthen regulations and legal protection for whistleblowers and pay attention to Law Number 31 of 2014 concerning the protection of witnesses and victims. In the future, social media can be used as a means for more massive social movements to voice ideas, opinions and views in monitoring deviant behavior from political contestants and there needs to be special arrangements for the protection of these social movements.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of clustering techniques to improve students' writing skills in composing descriptive texts. This study used Classroom Action Search (CAR) as the research method. This study consisted of two cycles. Each cycle consists of four steps: Planing, Action, Observation, and Reflection. The researchers conducted this study over almost a month, as each  cycle was conducted in three sessions. To collect and analyze the data, the study used information from interviews, observations, questionnaires, and  students' pre-test and post-test performance to corroborate the data collected. The results of this study indicate that using clustering techniques in teaching descriptive writing can improve students' writing skills. The students' responses showed that they were interested in learning the subject of writing  because they found it easy to write using this technique. Additionally, students' ability on  pre-test and post-test showed  significant improvement. Therefore, the average value for pre-test was 37.30. In the first cycle, the average was 71.60. On the other hand, the average for the second cycle was 80.45. This means that there was an average improvement of 34.30 points or 91.96%  from the student's score from pre-study to the first cycle, and an improvement of 43.14 points or 115.66% in the average score compared to the student's score from pre-study to the second cycle. Based on the this result, the study concluded that teaching descriptive English writing to the 10th grade of SMKN 3 Mataram students using clustering techniques can improve their writing ability.
