Abstract

The knowledge of maternal and child health and nutrition in Sukamerta Village is highlighted in the context of community well-being. The limited understanding of this issue has led to the need for interventions aimed at raising awareness of the importance of health aspects. This study aims to provide sustainable solutions through counseling and education efforts at Rawamerta Community Health Center. The research method applied includes a series of systematically designed steps. Starting from pre-event questionnaire filling to evaluate the initial level of knowledge, direct counseling, educational video screenings, interactive question and answer sessions, and distribution of brochures as additional sources of information. This approach not only delivers information but also encourages active participation of participants to enhance the effectiveness of knowledge transfer. The research results show a significant improvement in understanding of maternal and child health and nutrition after participating in the educational event. The success of the counseling, reaching a rate of 86.78%, confirms that this approach has a strong positive impact on enhancing community knowledge regarding crucial health issues.

Abstract

The skin is a protective barrier against environmental disturbances and infections. Staphylococcus aureus is a common bacterium on human skin that can lead to infections. In light of this, the study investigates the effectiveness of natural liquid soaps in controlling Staphylococcus aureus while promoting overall skin health. The primary objective is to showcase the advantages of using natural ingredients in liquid soap formulations compared to synthetic chemicals. To achieve this, the researchers conducted a systematic literature review (SLR), utilizing reputable databases such as PubMed and Mendeley to gather relevant studies focused on natural liquid soaps. They carefully selected articles based on inclusion criteria established through the PICO framework, emphasizing the antibacterial effectiveness of these natural products against Staphylococcus aureus. The review encompassed ten high-quality studies, revealing that formulations containing natural extracts such as breadfruit leaf, cardamom, aloe vera, and honey exhibited significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. These natural ingredients offered effective bacterial control and provided additional benefits, including skin moisturization and reduced irritation, making them preferable to synthetic alternatives. This study introduces a novel perspective by comprehensively reviewing various natural ingredients used in liquid soaps and their comparative effectiveness against Staphylococcus aureus. It underscores the potential of plant extracts and essential oils as safer and more effective alternatives to traditional chemical antibacterial agents in skin cleansers. In conclusion, natural liquid soaps effectively reduce Staphylococcus aureus on the skin while maintaining skin health. Incorporating natural ingredients ensures antibacterial protection without the adverse effects commonly associated with chemical-based soaps, such as dryness or irritation, thereby advocating a shift towards more natural skincare options.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Antibiotic resistance occurs when microorganisms become unresponsive to antibiotic treatment, rendering common therapies ineffective against infections. As a result, the infection becomes increasingly challenging to treat, posing a heightened risk of severe disease progression and increasing the risk of spreading the disease. The causes of the emergence of antibiotic resistance include a number of factors, including excessive use of antibiotics from self-medication, to inappropriate disposal of antibiotic drugs. Karawang Regency, a region in West Java which consists of 10 sub-districts and has a population of more than 2.4 million people. Research conducted in Karawang shows the potential for antibiotic resistance based on use and the environment. It is known that the people of Karawang Regency have poor knowledge and perception regarding antibiotic resistance and use, one of which is Pasir Jengkol village. Therefore, it is necessary to increase understanding of medicines among the people of Karawang Regency, including by socializing the DAGUSIBU movement (Dapatkan, Gunakan, Simpan dan Buang Obat) or Proper Use, Storage and Disposal of Medications and its implementation as a measure to prevent antibiotic resistance. The output of this activity is primarily an increase in understanding of public knowledge through questionnaires which are analyzed using statistics. The results obtained were then tested using a statistical test showing a significant influence (Sig 0.002) increase in knowledge through the difference in pre-test and post-test scores. This outreach activity, which provides educational materials on preventing resistance, has positively impacted the Pasir Jengkol community's knowledge. Therefore, this socialization initiative can be replicated in other areas, particularly in Karawang Regency. Keywords: Antibiotic,  Drug Resistance, DAGUSIBU, Karawang.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with a steadily increasing global prevalence, creating an urgent need for effective blood glucose management strategies. One potential alternative is stevia (Stevia rebaudiana) leaf extract, which contains the main components stevioside and rebaudioside. This review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of stevia as an antidiabetic agent based on current literature analysis. Data were obtained through searches on Google Scholar and PubMed using inclusion criteria: original articles, published within the last 10 years, and focusing on the antidiabetic effects of stevia. The results indicate that stevia extract significantly reduces blood glucose levels, improves insulin sensitivity, and exhibits antioxidant properties through mechanisms involving genetic regulation, enhanced enzymatic activity, and reduced inflammation. In conclusion, stevia shows potential as a natural sweetener as well as a complementary therapy in diabetes management, offering additional benefits for lipid profile improvement and cardiovascular protection with minimal side effects. To ensure its long-term safety and efficacy, further human clinical trials with adequate design, extended follow-up periods, and the development of innovative formulations such as nano-stevia are recommended to enhance bioavailability.

Abstract

Guava leaves (Psidium guajava L.) from the family Myrtaceae are known to have many health benefits. This review identifies the main active compounds in guava leaves, such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and terpenoids, which contribute to its pharmacological activities. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of guava leaves in providing therapeutic effects, such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities. A literature review with a qualitative approach of 10 articles was used in this research. Research shows that guava leaf extract is effective as an antidiabetic by inhibiting α the α-amylase enzyme and regulating glucose uptake. In addition, this extract functions as an antioxidant to fight free radicals, as well as an immunomodulator that increases phagocyte activity. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities of this extract can inhibit the growth of pathogenic microbes and suppress inflammatory responses, making it potentially useful for the treatment of infection and inflammation. Anticancer activity has also been demonstrated, mainly through inhibition of cancer signalling pathways and induction of apoptosis. Thus, guava leaves have prospects as a potential natural ingredient for the development of herbal medicines to treat various health conditions, especially enzyme inhibition, increased phagocyte activity, and inhibition of inflammation and pathogenic microbial growth.

Abstract

Karawang Regency is a producer of 1,485,298 tons of harvested dry grain per year. Rice is used as the main staple food that has medicinal benefits due to the content of secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, and terpenoid compounds. Methods This study used PUBMED and Scienedirect scientific search engines with the keywords (((Oryza sativa)) AND ((traditional medication))), (Oryza sativa) AND (commodity crops) and Oryza sativa for traditional medication. For literature selection, the PRISMA method was used by searching the literature on Pubmed and ScienDirect, 95 journals were obtained, then eligibility criteria were determined based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria so that 2 journals were obtained to be extracted. The results of the literature study obtained 2 journals used for data extraction in the literature review, which explained the content of secondary metabolites, preparations used and their efficacy for treatment. The conclusion is rice has medicinal properties due to the content of phenolic and flavonoid secondary metabolites that support antioxidant activity for therapy in degenerative diseases and melanoma. Recommended So that research on rice from Kawarang Regency must be developed because it is very potential and this research literature is still difficult to find.
