Abstract

Photography is the art and practice of capturing images or recording pictures using camera devices to create visual beauty for its audience. One of the most beloved genres of photography is landscape photography, documenting the natural beauty of a place so that it can be retold through visual communication. Ansel Adams is a world-renowned photographer and vocal environmental activist, whose work has become iconic in the world of photography in discussing the importance of preserving the natural beauty of the world. This study aims to explore and analyze the aesthetics of visual composition in Ansel Adams' photographic works. The main focus will be on how Adams utilizes the basic principles of visual composition. Using a qualitative descriptive method approach, this research analyzes Ansel Adams' legendary photographic works, exploring how aesthetics and visual composition can form a language of visual communication in photography for the general audience.

Abstract

Film horor legendaris Indonesia salah satunya berjudul "Suzzanna: Malam Jumat Kliwon", dimana film ini pernah populer di era tahun 80'an dan 90'an. Film yang sangat terkenal di kalangan masyarakat pecinta film horor Indonesia pada masa-nya. Tahun 2023 film ini kembali dibuat ulang dengan lebih menampilkan kebaruan dari sisi estetika visual dan komposisi yang diterapkan, dan tokoh-tokoh pemeran film yang saat ini cukup dikenal, salah satunya yaitu artis Luna Maya yang berperan sebagai Suzzanna. Dalam konteks promosi film, trailer menjadi alat penting untuk memperkenalkan cerita dan suasana film kepada penonton potensial. Trailer film ini memberikan cuplikan adegan-adegan penting yang menarik perhatian penonton dan membangun ekspektasi terhadap film secara keseluruhan, trailer dari film "Suzzanna: Malam Jumat Kliwon" telah ditonton sebanyak lebih dari 1,7 juta kali pada channel youtube. Oleh sebab itu keberhasilan film ini tidak lepas dari faktor promosi melalui media trailer film. Maka diperlukannya penelitian yang menganalisis dan membahas tentang estetika makna visual pada trailer film horor berjudul "Suzzanna: Malam Jumat Kliwon". Penelitian dilakukan secara deskriptif kualitatif, dengan pengujian teori-teori film secara konstruktivisme. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa trailer film "Suzzanna: Malam Jumat Kliwon" memanfaatkan estetika visual dengan baik untuk menciptakan suasana yang mencekam dan memikat. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi dalam pemahaman tentang bagaimana estetika visual digunakan dalam trailer film untuk menyampaikan makna.

Abstract

2021 was the year of Netflix’s sensation, the South Korean drama series, "Squid Game" directed by Hwang Dong Hyuk. The visual and audio production are extraordinary, and the idea of ​​the storyline is quite interesting, resulted in one of the highest ratings in Netflix. This analysis examines the creative process in the idea of ​​pictures taken in the series by studying cinematographic visual composition based on composition theory by Paul Wheeler. In this paper, the authors try to examine some of the best scenes as a sampling study, and how a composition can provide an important role in communicating the drama series’ storyline. Surely this can be developed as a further learning medium in the study of cinematography and composition.

Abstract

The dominance of western arts and culture in the country makes children think that traditional arts and culture are not trendy and seem old-fashioned nowadays. The impact is felt for the younger generation who don't want to learn, they don't even know Indonesian art and culture. The design of this thesis work is made to produce play media works that are suitable, desirable, and have good benefits for children's growth through board games with the aim of introducing Yogyakarta Punakawan wayang culture to children aged 7-11 years. The research method used is descriptive qualitative and uses interviews with informants, distributing questionnaires to get views from the public, collecting data from the literature, and making observations. The result of this design is a visually appealing board game design, as well as a play style suitable for children aged 7-11 years. By using an illustration style, and choosing the right color to add value to the interest in this board game to be played by children aged 7-11 years.

Abstract

Study Of Composition, Transition And Camera Motion On The Film Trailer Of KKN In Desa Penari. Indonesia has been rocked by many quality horror films in the last five years, where there have been many horror films made by original Indonesian filmmakers that have caught the attention of the audience, one of which is the film called KKN DI DESA PENARI which has become the second highest-grossing film in Indonesia by successfully attracting nine million viewers in Indonesia. the big screen and has aired in the United States, and this is the second largest achievement after the Avengers-End Game film ever to be released in 2019 with 11 million viewers. Of course, the success of this film promotion cannot be separated from the activity of showing the KKN film trailer IN THE DANIER VILLAGE. The role of the trailer in a film's main work is very important, because the process and presentation of the film trailer must be able to briefly represent the overall essence of the film. The trailer must be packaged in an interesting and serious manner in its production, because of this the author aims to conduct a visual analysis of the trailer for this best-selling film in Indonesia entitled KKN DI DESA PENARI in terms of composition, transition, and camera movement studies. With qualitative descriptive research methods, it will enrich the writing analysis references more broadly and in depth. This research produces variations of visual creativity to be more colorful and interesting to increase audience interest in the visuals of film trailers. In horror movie trailers, this will be a special trick, how the composition, transition, and camera movement must accommodate interesting visuals for the audience, especially in movie trailers.

Abstract

Designing of Educational and Communicative Illustrated Storybooks “The Legend of Mount Tampomas” for Children 7-9 Years Old. This study aims to create an informational medium about the folklore or legend of Mount Tampomas for children aged 7-9 years in the form of an illustrated book. This folklore is a legend derived from the regional story of Sumedang district. The effort will be to package this folklore into an attractive, educational, and communicative illustrated story to capture the interest of children aged 7-9 years, helping them better understand the history of folklore. The design of the illustrated folklore book includes visual illustrations and minimal text tailored to the children's world. This study was conducted using a qualitative descriptive research method, utilizing techniques such as distributing questionnaires to respondents and reading information from literature studies. The final goal of this illustrated folklore book design research is to create an educational and communicative illustrated folklore book. It is expected to become a medium to introduce the folklore of the Legend of Mount Tampomas to children.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the visual and narrative aesthetics in the music video "Saat Kau Telah Mengerti" by Virgoun. The music video serves as a medium for conveying emotions and messages, where visual and narrative elements play a crucial role in shaping audience perceptions. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach focused on audience meaning, utilizing Edmund Feldman’s formal analysis method through the stages of description, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation. Elements such as composition, lighting, color grading, and camera movement are analyzed to understand how they enhance the audience's emotional experience. The results reveal that these visual elements are effectively utilized to create a profound emotional narrative and strengthen the audience’s connection to the conveyed message. This study provides valuable insights into how visual aesthetics can be leveraged to amplify emotional impact in music videos.

Abstract

Instagram is a social media platform for publishing photographic works. Lee Jeffries, one of the most renowned portrait photographers, consistently exposes his works to the general public, including through the social media platform Instagram. His photographic works are considered highly interesting and unique due to their capacity to transmit social messages. Lee Jeffries consistently captures photographs of homeless people worldwide to convey social messages to his audience. This motivates the authors to discuss the meaning of visual messages in Lee Jeffries' works. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach to analyze the photographs’ composition, color, and symbolic meaning. The results show that the application of symmetrical and asymmetrical compositions and colors for portraits of human faces, especially those of the homeless on urban street corners, produced symbolic meanings, including sadness, emotion, and happiness.Instagram is a social media platform for publishing photographic works. Abstract

Documentary photography as a medium of conveying information and documentation can document reality and tell important stories with integrity and honesty. Where journalistic photography will continue to be a powerful tool in reporting the truth and influencing social change, giving us a window into a wider and more diverse world. This research visually analyzes the phenomenal works of world photography from the aesthetic side with Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. It tells that aesthetically the photograph is an embodiment of visual beauty immortalized by the photographer not only by chance in capturing a moment that once existed. This research is conducted qualitatively descriptively according to Bogdan and Guba and proves that the science of photography does not only rely on luck but needs to understand how to photograph, the concept of visual framing in one frame that can be accepted by the general public as a conveyance of messages, information, and impressions from a photograph itself based on photographic theories.

Abstract

Fotografi wedding budaya tradisional India di Indonesia merupakan wujud keberagaman budaya yang tumbuh dan menjadi sebuah keunikan dalam perbedaan budaya yang ada, diperlukan adanya penelitian tentang budaya luar Indonesia yang sudah cukup lama ada di Indonesia. Banyak hal menarik dapat didokumentasikan dalam menangkap sebuah moment fotografi budaya tradisional India. Penelitian ini mengangkat tentang keberagaman akan keunikan budaya di Indonesia yang didokumentasikan dalam perancangan teknis visual fotografi dengan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dan metode perancangan fotografi wedding dengan pendekatan komposisi subjek, objek, pengambilan gambar, dan tata cahaya fotografi, penelitian ini merupakan penelitian artistik berdasarkan sudut pandang pengalaman peneliti dalam menghasilkan karya visual fotografi. Penelitian ini menghasilkan rancangan fotografi wedding dalam mengutamakan tangkapan visual moment penting fotografi wedding dengan tujuan menampilkan visual estetik dalam dokumentasi bahagia yang memberikan kesan kepada audiens dan memunculkan potensi dari fotografi wedding terhadap fotografi wedding budaya tradisional India.
