Abstract

Fotografi merupakan salah satu keilmuan yang cukup populer pada pemanfaatan peralatan digital di era saat ini. Agar keilmuan fotografi dapat lebih mudah dipelajari dan dipahami maka diperlukan penelitian terkait fotografi khususnya pada objek-objek tertentu disekitar kita yang lebih mudah ditemui dalam mempelajari fotografi. Penelitian Perancangan Keindahan Fotografi Bunga Dengan Teknik Komposisi Estetika Visual bertujuan untuk merancang karya fotografi bunga dan mengetahui bagaimana peranan komposisi visual dalam fotografi bunga bila diterapkan secara pengambilan visual. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode perancangan komposisi visual fotografi secara the rule of thirds dan komposisi simetris, dengan objek utama adalah tanaman bunga berukuran kecil. Penelitian menghasilkan kesimpulan bahwa fotografi bunga memerlukan teknik komposisi yang langsung berfokus pada subjek sebagai point of interest dalam memposisikan framing, selain itu diperlukan fokus terhadap detail bunga dan memanfaatkan warna sebagai keindahan estetik visual. Komposisi tentu memberikan dampak siginifikan terhadap sebuah stigma visual fotografi dalam penempatan framing dan menjadi hal yang penting bagi fotografer.

Abstract

Typography adalah salah satu aspek terpenting di dalam pembuatan poster. Poster selalu dikaitkan penggunaannya sebagai material utama yang mengedepankan visual untuk memasarkan film. Film Marvel yang dikenal dengan sebutan Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) mengadaptasi dari komik Marvel telah menghasilkan puluhan film yang selalu sukses di pasaran, sehingga Marvel melebarkan sayapnya dengan memproduksi serial TV yang didistribusikan di Netflix seperti Daredevil, Luke Cage dan Iron Fist. MCU memiliki daya Tarik tersendiri pada setiap rilisan poster yang dikeluarkan di Netflix, dilihat dari poster bisa terlihat bahwa MCU sangat mengedepankan citra karakter pada poster mereka. Tentunya hal tersebut menarik untuk dibuktikan melalui penelitian di bidang keilmuan desain. Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah mencari dan menggali informasi terkait hubungan antara karakteristik tipografi yang digunakan pada poster dengan representasi visual dari karakter film serial superhero pada platform Video on demand. Analisis ini dilakukan untuk bisa menentukan pentingnya tipografi jenis logotype di dalam penggunaannya untuk poster yang bisa menunjukkan elemen visual dari film atau serial tersebut. Metode penelitian yang akan digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif, yang dibantu dengan pendekatan fundamental tipografi dan kasifikasi huruf yang sebelumnya telah dikembangkan oleh Alexander Lawson. Penelitian ini menghasilkan analisis mengenai hubungan antara tipografi, khususnya logotype dan visual dari serial Marvel yang menyatakan bahwa benar adanya jika memang terlihat berkaitan antara pemilihan, penggunaan sebuah karakteristik huruf tertentu dengan karakter superhero. Kata kunci: typography, logotype, Netflix, Marvel, poster. the main material that emphasizes visuals to market films. Marvel films known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), adapting Marvel comics, have produced dozens of films which have always been successful in the market, so Marvel has expanded its wings by producing TV series distributed on Netflix such as Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The MCU has its own charm in every poster released on Netflix, judging by the posters, it can be seen that the MCU really emphasizes the image of the characters on their posters. Of course, this is interesting to prove through research in the scientific field of design. The main objective of this research is to find and explore information related to the relationship between the typographical characteristics used on posters and the visual representation of superhero serial film characters on the Video on demand platform. This analysis was carried out to determine the importance of logotype typography in its use for posters that can show the visual elements of the film or series. The research method that will be used is descriptive qualitative, which is assisted by the fundamental approach of typography and classification of letters that has previously been developed by Alexander Lawson. This research produces an analysis of the relationship between typography, especially the logotype and visuals of the Marvel series which states that it is true that there is indeed a connection between the selection, the use of certain letter characteristics and superhero characters. Abstract

Instagram is a social media platform for publishing photographic works. Lee Jeffries, one of the most renowned portrait photographers, consistently exposes his works to the general public, including through the social media platform Instagram. His photographic works are considered highly interesting and unique due to their capacity to transmit social messages. Lee Jeffries consistently captures photographs of homeless people worldwide to convey social messages to his audience. This motivates the authors to discuss the meaning of visual messages in Lee Jeffries' works. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach to analyze the photographs’ composition, color, and symbolic meaning. The results show that the application of symmetrical and asymmetrical compositions and colors for portraits of human faces, especially those of the homeless on urban street corners, produced symbolic meanings, including sadness, emotion, and happiness.Instagram is a social media platform for publishing photographic works. Abstract

Film sebagai media visual yang menggunakan gambar bergerak untuk menyampaikan cerita, gagasan, atau pesan kepada penonton sebagai alat ekspresi artistik dan naratif. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis lebih dalam tentang isi film secara estetika, peran karakter, spectacle, audio elements dan editing, komposisi angle kamera, dan keunikan film. Metode penelitian dilakukan secara deskriptif kualitatif, pencarian data-data langsung dengan menonton film berjudul Miracle In Cell No.7 yang diproduksi tahun 2013, dengan data-data penunjang daftar pustaka mengenai teori-teori dan jurnal film. Hasil penelitian "Peranan Karakter Film Berjudul Miracle In Cell No.7" bahwa pentingnya daya tarik secara estetika, peran karakter, audio elements dan editing, Spectacle, komposisi angle & kamera, dan keunikan film dalam membangun emosi audiens yang begitu mendalam dan ini menjadi alasan bagaimana film ini sukses menghadirkan hiburan yang terus dibicarakan oleh audiens hingga hari ini.

Abstract

The horror film titled Suzzanna: Malam Jumat Kliwon is one of the legendary horror films that is full of nostalgia and loved by horror movie enthusiasts in Indonesia. The success of this film is undoubtedly linked to one of its promotional media, which emerged as an information medium announcing the film's release. Promotional media, which originally took the form of conventional film poster designs, continues to be a mainstay in promoting the release of a film by introducing the main characters, film title, and schedule, all packaged aesthetically in visually appealing posters. This research discusses the importance of the film posters for Suzzanna: Malam Jumat Kliwon, created in 1986 and 2023. From this, the fundamental differences between the two can be identified in terms of visual design aesthetics through the theoretical principles of visual communication design, covering typography, layout, color, point of interest, and design styles used. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, directly analyzing the horror film posters from 1986 and 2023 of the film Suzzanna: Malam Jumat Kliwon, supplemented by supporting journals and a literature review. The study reveals the differences in poster design styles over these two different periods.

Abstract

Photography is used for creative and reflective purposes, much like in fine art photography. The main goal of photographic aesthetics is to produce works that are not only technically sound but also have high artistic value. The research method used is qualitative descriptive. This study aims to measure the aesthetics of composition in photography with a focus on proving visual balance. Composition aesthetics are studied through the analysis of elements such as the golden ratio, symmetry, and tonal distribution. The research method involves collecting and analyzing data from sample photos with various compositions. The results show that visual balance can be measured using mathematical approaches and aesthetic principles, which influence the perception of beauty in a photo. The implications of this research are to strengthen understanding of how visual composition affects aesthetic judgment in photography. This research produces measures of aesthetic visual balance composition that will elevate case studies of six photographs from six professional photographers of different genres, whose works are internationally recognized, namely the works of photographers Natalie Dybisz, Lee Jeffries, Jimmy Nelson, Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, and Robert Capa, which will be measured visually using a three-to-two basic framing grid approach.

Abstract

2021 was the year of Netflix’s sensation, the South Korean drama series, "Squid Game" directed by Hwang Dong Hyuk. The visual and audio production are extraordinary, and the idea of ​​the storyline is quite interesting, resulted in one of the highest ratings in Netflix. This analysis examines the creative process in the idea of ​​pictures taken in the series by studying cinematographic visual composition based on composition theory by Paul Wheeler. In this paper, the authors try to examine some of the best scenes as a sampling study, and how a composition can provide an important role in communicating the drama series’ storyline. Surely this can be developed as a further learning medium in the study of cinematography and composition.

Abstract

Indonesian horror films initially often explore mysterious stories and ghosts from local mythology, creating a mysterious atmosphere enriched with cultural elements such as addressing themes of Javanese cultural beliefs in a film titled "Primbon". Unfortunately, there have not been many studies discussing horror films in terms of Mise en Scène in Indonesia. The film titled "Primbon" is a work of director Rudy Soedjarwo, who is a director and film producer in Indonesia. He is known for his work in the Indonesian film industry. Researchers wanted to determine how important the visual appearance through Mise en Scène is in horror films. This research was conducted descriptively qualitatively, data collected through literature searches on theories related to cinematography and composition in films, using the Kurt Lewin method approach. The research revealed that the Mise en Scène in a horror film like "Primbon" appears slightly different because the impression of the storyline intended to convey is tension, fear, and audience emotional sadness, and this is felt to be very important in building the visual mood. Horror films not only always scare by presenting horror alone, but sadness and pathos can become the climax of a unique and interesting horror film.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the visual and narrative aesthetics in the music video "Saat Kau Telah Mengerti" by Virgoun. The music video serves as a medium for conveying emotions and messages, where visual and narrative elements play a crucial role in shaping audience perceptions. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach focused on audience meaning, utilizing Edmund Feldman’s formal analysis method through the stages of description, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation. Elements such as composition, lighting, color grading, and camera movement are analyzed to understand how they enhance the audience's emotional experience. The results reveal that these visual elements are effectively utilized to create a profound emotional narrative and strengthen the audience’s connection to the conveyed message. This study provides valuable insights into how visual aesthetics can be leveraged to amplify emotional impact in music videos.
