Abstract

Control of surface runoff is a major challenge in sustainable urban stormwater management. High rainfall can cause various problems such as floods and landslides. Related to the problem of surface runoff includes a number of problems that require attention and good solutions to maintain environmental sustainability and prevent negative impacts from surface runoff. Surface runoff control activities generally tend to be social, technically costly, and relatively long. Collaboration with experts, government, and local stakeholders can also reinforce the concept of successful surface runoff control. The application of the AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) method is needed as a systematic approach to evaluate and select effective alternative surface runoff control systems, in this study four alternatives were taken based on three criteria. These alternatives involve solutions such as the application of biopores of infiltration wells, rainwater harvesting, retention ponds and green open spaces then these alternatives are evaluated based on relevant criteria, in this study the relevant criteria are taken namely technically, environmentally and cost. The results of this analysis using the AHP method provide relative priority values for each alternative, allowing for the selection of optimal solutions to surface runoff problems. Based on this assessment, it shows that alternative green open space is an optimal solution for surface runoff control systems in urban areas.

Abstract

Clean water is an essential element for human life. The need for water continues to increase along with population growth. Rivers are a good source of clean water. Understanding water availability in the river that we will use as a clean water source is very important. In 2022, Manado City will have a population of 454,606 people. This study aims to determine the water demand in Manado City in 2045 and whether the Tondano River will be able to meet the water demand by 2045. This research uses a quantitative method, where the data used includes Tondano River discharge data processed using the analysis of water resource availability and Manado City population data using exponential regression analysis. In 2045, the population is projected to reach 549,438 people. Water demand is calculated based on the domestic, non-domestic, and water loss sectors. The total water demand in 2045 was 1,860.08 liters per day. If the total water demand is added to the peak hour factor, the total water demand becomes 5,533.28 liters, while the mainstay discharge of the Tondano River for Q95 is 4,511.34 liters per day. It can be seen that in 2045, the Tondano River can still meet the clean water needs of the Manado community. However, if the peak hour factor for Q95 is added, the Tondano River cannot meet the clean water needs of the Manado people.

Abstract

The coastal area of Manado City, particularly the estuary of the Bailang River in Bunaken District, frequently experiences inundation due to the complex interaction between river discharge and tidal fluctuations. This study aims to analyze the spatial distribution and extent of flooding resulting from the combination of river discharge and tides, as well as to evaluate mitigation strategies based on numerical modeling results. A two-dimensional hydrodynamic model was developed using MIKE 21 Flow Model FM HD, utilizing topographic and bathymetric data from DEMNAS and BATNAS, along with 2023 river discharge and tidal data. Simulations were conducted for existing conditions, minimum discharge with maximum tide, and maximum discharge with maximum tide. The results show that tidal influence significantly contributes to the increase in flood extent and duration, especially when high river discharge coincides with peak tidal conditions. The most affected areas are Kelurahan Molas and Tumumpa, located along the riverbanks and near the fish auction port, with inundation covering up to 4.973 hectares and water depths exceeding 0.5 meters. Recommended mitigation strategies include river normalization and the implementation of a real-time hydrodynamic early warning system. This study supports flood risk management and coastal spatial planning, serving as a technical reference for local government policy-making.

Abstract
