Abstract

Waqf, as an instrument for wealth distribution in Islam, must have an impact on people's well-being. However, in actuality, waqf collection and management in Indonesia is substandard. As a result, as a nazir, the Lembaga Wakaf Daarut Tauhiid Institution must be able to collect and administer waqf assets properly. The purpose of this research is to analyze the waqf institutions' strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and dangers, as well as to develop strategies for collecting and managing waqf assets in the Wakaf Daarut Tauhiid Institution. In this study, the Analytic Network Process (ANP) with a SWOT structure system was applied. The most influential feature of strenth was discovered to be the presence of figure. The most serious shortcoming is a lack of education and outreach to prospective waqf. The most crucial feature of the possibility is the high potential of waqf. The most potent part of threat is waqf faith in waqf organizations. The approach for effective waqf asset management prioritizes the promotion of waqf initiatives using social media. The created plan is designed to serve as a guide for stakeholders in creating future policies.

Abstract

This study assesses the competitiveness of Indonesian coffee in relation to its primary global competitors - Brazil, Colombia, and Vietnam. Focusing on key export markets, including the United States, Japan, and Egypt, the research analyses factors influencing the demand for coffee exports. The study utilizes time series data (2004-2021) of coffee under HS code 090111 and applies Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Export Product Dynamics (EPD), and the Linear Approximate Almost Ideal Demand System (LA-AIDS). Findings highlight Indonesian coffee's lower competitiveness, with Vietnam emerging as the top competitor. Additionally, demand determinants for Indonesian coffee have a smaller impact compared to those from other nations. Notably, Indonesian coffee exhibits price inelasticity in the U.S. market and high elasticity in Egypt. The study suggests strategies to improve competitiveness such as quality enhancement, product diversification, market access expansion through certification, and farmer capacity building to mitigate quality issues from green-picking practices. Keywords: Indonesian coffee, coffee competitiveness, RCA, EPD, LA-AIDS

Abstract

The escalating threat of global warming stems from greenhouse gas emissions resulting from various household activities, profoundly impacting climate change. This study delves into Neglasari Village, Bogor Regency, scrutinizing emissions' correlation with household consumption. Predominantly focusing on carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, emissions arise from electricity, cooking and oil fuel usage, waste, agriculture, and livestock farming. Objectives encompass elucidating and computing greenhouse gas emissions, discerning influential factors, and gauging their economic ramifications. Employing IPCC's 2006 emission valuation, multiple linear regression, descriptive analysis, and carbon economic metrics, findings reveal Neglasari Village's emissions total 1,247,364.80 kg CO₂-e/month, averaging 411.40 kg CO₂-e/month per household. Key influencers identified are household income and house ownership status. The calculated carbon economic value stands at IDR138,646/month per household, aggregating to IDR421,809,752/month across Neglasari Village, fortifying the imperative for sustainable practices.

Abstract

Introduction: Islamic boarding schools have significant potential to boost the Sharia economy, notably through cooperative formation. However, many of these cooperatives, including the Daarut Tauhiid Islamic Boarding School Cooperative (DT Cooperative), are not performing optimally. DT Cooperative contributes only 5% to the school's financial independence, and its residual business result (sisa hasil usaha, SHU) has varied over the last three years. This research aims to identify DT Cooperative's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and to establish strategic priorities for cooperative development. Methods: The Analytical Network Process (ANP) with a Strength-Weakness-Opportunity-Threat (SWOT) network was employed in this study. Results: The findings of this study indicate that strength is the top priority in establishing the DT Cooperative business. The most influential characteristics of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and dangers are a structured organization, suboptimal marketing management, a huge market share, and shifting company dynamics. The most important approach to pursue is to increase cooperation among various groups. Conclusion and suggestion: This research highlights the need to improve organizational relationships and address marketing management deficiencies in DT Cooperatives. By leveraging organizational strengths and fostering collaboration, Islamic boarding school cooperatives can better support Sharia economic efforts. Insights from this study apply to Daarut Tauhiid and similar cooperatives, and underscore the importance of policies that enhance training, consultation, and networking among Islamic boarding schools. This study contributes to the economic development knowledge of Islamic boarding schools, particularly cooperatives, in enhancing community welfare and supporting their economic independences.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic is a rare and unexpected occurrence. Everyone has felt the global economic impact of the health crisis, including the Indonesian Islamic stock market. The shock in the Islamic stock markets has created uncertainty and a shift in investor behavior, potentially leading to an overreaction abnormality. The aim of this research is to look into a phenomenon in Indonesia's Islamic stock market. Analytical methods include the event study approach and cross-sectional regression. This study discovered that Joe Biden's election as President of the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic (Event 8) and the increase in daily COVID-19 deaths (Event 11) overreacted to the winner category stocks using the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII). A component that drives such overreactions is market capitalisation, which has a substantial influence on it. Furthermore, trading volumes influenced overreaction significantly.

Abstract

The capital structure of a bank is directly tied to the risk and rate of return. The aim of this study is to examine the impact of capital structure on financial performance in Indonesia's dual banking system from the first quarter of 2013 to the third quarter of 2019, using 9 Conventional Commercial Banks (BUK) and 9 Sharia Commercial Banks (BUS) as research samples. Panel data regression is employed in this study, with Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE) as dependent variables, and Equity to Total Asset Ratio (EAR), Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), company size, and economic growth as independent variables. The findings reveal that EAR, DER, and economic growth all have beneficial and significant effects on conventional commercial banks' ROA and ROE. Company size and economic growth have a positive and significant effect on ROA and ROE, while Sharia Commercial Banks, EAR, and DER have a negative and significant effect on ROA and ROE. These findings indicate that capital structure has a sometimes beneficial impact on financial success.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of green financing on the efficiency of Islamic and conventional banks in Indonesia between 2016 and 2022. Employing the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method to compute efficiency scores and Tobit regression to evaluate the impact of green financing, the findings reveal that conventional banks outperform their Islamic counterparts in terms of efficiency. This disparity is attributed to superior risk management practices and the benefits of operational scale. Notably, green financing enhances the efficiency of both banking types, with its effects being more pronounced in smaller banks. These insights underscore the potential of green financing to advance sustainability without undermining banking efficiency. The study advocates for robust policy frameworks to incentivize green financing initiatives, particularly targeting smaller banks, to maximize their role in fostering sustainable development.

Abstract

Health sector indicators are important basis of determining the overall state of a nation’s wealth and welfare. Apart from this broad and conventional perspective on the role of health, in many Islamic countries, health is also part of objective of ‘maqashid sharia’ that needs to be maintained to sustain life. Accordingly, countries invest substantial share of national resources to sustain critical health systems. Notwithstanding these commitments, health service delivery remains a major challenge in these countries, as indicated by the low average life expectancy and the high mortality rate caused by communicable diseases. This study aims to describe and analyze the factors influencing health outcomes, namely life expectancy and mortality rate, in Muslim countries using secondary data from 46 OIC countries from 2010-2018. Employing panel data estimation, the study finds evidence suggesting the important role of a nation’s wealth, health expenditure, educational achievement and the prevalence of smoking as important determinants of life expectancy in OIC countries. In particular, the results show that high incidence of communicable diseases in countries with lower than mean years of schooling and those with significantly wide prevalence of smoking habits may have contributed to high mortality in these countries.
