Abstract

Infection prevention therapy generally uses antibiotics (Priyanto, 2009) where inappropriate use of antibiotics (Paterson, et al., 2005) can cause resistance to antibiotics. Increasing bacterial resistance to antibiotics provides a great opportunity to obtain antibacterial compounds by utilizing the diversity of plants in Indonesia (Manik et al, 2018). Dayak onions on Lembata Island are known as forest onions, their alkaloid content has an antimicrobial function. This research aims to further study the potential of Dayak onion bulbs / forest onions (Eleutherine palmifolia) (L) Merr taken from the Lembata area, East Nusa Tenggara, in inhibiting the growth of Gram-negative Escherichia coli bacteria which include the Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL) strain. ) with Escherichia coli bacteria. Dayak onion 96% ethanol extract was made in a concentration of 10% to 100% which was tested with ESBL strain Escherichia coli bacteria, the inhibitory power formed was measured to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) value. Data obtained from Dayak onion (Eleutherine palmifolia) L (Merr) ethanol powder extract has antimicrobial activity in inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria in Dayak onion (Eleutherine palmifolia) L (Merr) ethanol powder extract at concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 100% of Escherichia coli bacteria is a concentration that is included in the weak group.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the ten causes of death in the world. This disease is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Indonesia ranks third in the world in terms of TB sufferers, after India and China. Kupang Regency is a contributor to tuberculosis cases in East Nusa Tenggara and Nekamese District, one of which is that the incidence rate is still quite high. Knowledge about symptoms, transmission and treatment of disease among the community, especially teenagers, is still lacking with TB cases still being found. Empowering teenagers as health drivers is expected to be able to increase public awareness, especially teenagers, regarding prevention, symptom monitoring and discovery and treatment of tuberculosis. Tuberculosis education can increase adolescent knowledge, so that adolescents know the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy lifestyle so that TB transmission can be reduced. This community service activity is carried out to contribute to improving youth's knowledge and attitudes about pulmonary TB through comprehensive TB counseling by providing structured information about pulmonary TB and empowering teenagers by strengthening agents of change (peer cadres in the health sector) and monitoring in the community who have symptoms of tuberculosis, especially in children. The results of the activity showed an increasingly better level of understanding among teenagers about TB disease from 35% to 85%. At the monitoring stage in the community, especially teenagers, no symptoms of tuberculosis were found and all were in good health. It is hoped that in the future peer cadres (adolescents) will be able to adopt a clean and healthy lifestyle and become pioneers in monitoring tuberculosis symptoms in the community so that they are easier to find and receive treatment/treatment quickly. Peer cadres can practice Clean and Healthy Living Behavior so they are able to transfer information about Pulmonary TB to the community, especially teenagers.

Abstract

Nutrient agar (NA) is an example of a medium that is often used to grow and breed bacteria in the laboratory but has an expensive price. One of the innovations that are currently developing is by utilizing natural resources that will be used as a medium for bacterial growth at a relatively cheaper cost and easy to obtain such as Artocarpus heterophyllus seeds. This study aimed to determine whether the boiled Artocarpus heterophyllus seeds media can be used as a substitute media of Nutrient agar for the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. This study was a true experiment with a posttest-only control design and analyzed using the One-Way Anova test. The results of the one way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference between the boiled Artocarpus heterophyllus seeds media and the Nutrient agar on the growth of the number of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus colonies with significant values ​​of 0.006 and 0.000 (p<0.05). Based on the results of the analysis, Artocarpus heterophyllus boiled seeds media can be used as a substitute media of Nutrient agar for the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

Hematoxylin-eosin staining is a crucial technique used in histopathology to differentiate tissue components. One of the steps in this staining is changing the color of the nucleus, which was previously reddish due to the acid solution, to bluish; this step is known as blueing. The bluing agent, lithium carbonate, is commonly used in laboratories but has side effects and low availability. Sodium bicarbonate, also known as baking soda, can be used as an alternative due to its optimal pH, lower toxicity, and availability. This study aims to find out whether baking soda is as effective as lithium carbonate when used as a blueing agent for hematoxylin-eosin staining. The study design used was a true experimental post-test only control group design with a sample size of 32 preparations. Results of preparations using baking soda microscopically had good color uniformity, the nucleus was visible, the cytoplasm was clear, so the boundaries between cells were visible, and no cell lysis was found. In percentage terms, 14 preparations received a score of two (87.5%), two preparations received a score of three (12.5%), followed by a P value of 0.051 after carrying out the Fisher's exact test in bivariate analysis. Based on the results, baking soda is as effective as lithium carbonate, so it can be used as an alternative to bluing agent of hematoxylin-eosin staining.

Abstract

Tuberkulosis resistan obat (TB RO) adalah penyakit akibat infeksi Mycobacterium tuberculosis yang mengalami mutasi spontan pada kromosom. Pemberian obat Linezolid pada pasien TB RO dapat meningkatkan risiko anemia, yang salah satunya ditandai dengan penurunan kadar hemoglobin. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan kadar hemoglobin sebelum dan setelah pengobatan pada pasien TB RO. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Rumah Sakit Islam Jakarta Cempaka Putih pada Oktober 2024-Mei 2025. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian observasional analitik dengan desain studi potong lintang menggunakan data sekunder pasien TB RO di Rumah Sakit Islam Jakarta Cempaka Putih yang melakukan pemeriksaan kadar hemoglobin pada sebelum dan setelah konsumsi obat Linezolid selama 3 bulan pada periode 2023-2024 sejumlah 35 pasien dengan teknik pengambilan sampel purposive sampling. Analisis statistika yang digunakan adalah uji T-dependen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan proporsi pasien TB RO berdasarkan jenis kelamin adalah 20 (57,1%) pasien laki-laki dan 15 (42,9%) pasien perempuan. Berdasarkan usia, terdapat 3 (8,6%) pasien remaja (10-18 tahun), 27 (77,1%) pasien dewasa (19-59 tahun), dan 5 (14,3%) pasien lansia (≥60 tahun). Rerata kadar hemoglobin turun dari 12,2 g/dL sebelum pengobatan menjadi 10,5 g/dL setelah pengobatan. Terdapat perbedaan kadar hemoglobin sebelum dan setelah pengobatan pada pasien TB RO dengan nilai p <0,001. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat membantu pasien, institusi pendidikan, dan peneliti dalam memahami dan menindaklanjuti efek samping pengobatan terhadap hemoglobin pada pasien TB RO.
