Movie script is a medium that can help students in learning to read. The researcher gave a movie script to students to read and understand the content of the story in the movie script that had been distributed and filled in on the kwl sheet about what they knew, wanted to know and what they had learned in the movie script story. Researchers checked each job. The reading comprehension of grade 11 students at SMAN 3 Sidrap is still low due to a lack of motivation to learn to read due to a lack of media that can attract students' interest in reading. To overcome this problem, researchers apply teaching reading using Movie Script media. The purpose of this study was to see the effect of movie scripts on reading comprehension and motivation of 11th grade students of SMAN 3 Sidrap for the 2021/2022 academic year. This study used a pre-experimental method which was only applied to one class. This means that teaching reading comprehension through movie script media is beneficial for some students in understanding reading content. In addition, the post test score is 76.4, higher than the minimum criteria at SMAN 3 Sidrap, which is 70 points. Data analysis using the t-test, the results of the t-test value (0.250) are lower than the t-table (α = 0.05: 1.729). This means that the Null Hypothesis (H0) is accepted and (H1) the Alternative Hypothesis is rejected. The results of the study concluded that teaching reading comprehension through movie script media was able to improve students' reading comprehension but not significantly. However, the results of the questionnaire showed positive results of 60.01% -100% (strongly agreed) that students were interested and motivated in the movie script teaching materials provided.

Abstract

In learning English, students tend to encounter issues with limited vocabulary and grammar, accuracy of pronunciation, fear of making mistakes while speaking, and other problems. These occurrences are influenced by several factors, one of which is the teacher's strategies. By employing suitable strategies aligned with students' needs and desires, the attainment of learning objectives can be facilitated. Based on this statement, the researcher analysed the strategies used by English teachers in teaching speaking skills and the students' responses to these strategies in the tenth-grade classes at SMA Negeri 2 Parepare. Abstract

learning motivation, especially in the development of speaking skills in higher education. The purpose of this paper is to understand the students’ motivation in learning speaking skills in higher education using culturally responsive teaching identified as CRT. In this research the researchers used a qualitative method and used open-ended interviews to collect the data, conducting interviews with three participants, all students of an English language department. During the interviews, it was kept in mind that the focus was to gather information about the student’s experiences and perspectives on the adopted culturally responsive teaching approach. In this case, thematic analysis was used to analyze the collected data, since it helps to focus on the main themes and the repeated patterns that exist in the data collected. Three major areas were discussed as follows. The first theme is positive experiences with the culturally responsive teaching approach which indicates the positive experiences of the students as the students were made to feel valued and listened to in a learning environment, which incorporates student’s cultural realities as they learn. The second theme is appreciation of cultural diversity emphasizing that the students’ cultural background should be valued and used to increase their desire and interest in learning. The third constructed theme is the positive relationship with motivation, which depicts the clerical correlation between a culturally responsive teaching approach and students’ motivation level. Implications of the findings or discussion of the study These findings imply that culturally responsive teaching could improve students’ motivation toward learning speaking skills because of the more positive classroom environment. The findings of the research add to the existing literature on teaching practices for enhanced learning among college students, particularly arguing that there is a need to consider the cultural identities of students as important determinants of teaching practice. Subsequent studies should take up the following issues in understanding the long-term effects culturally responsive teaching yields on nearly all facets of language learning and the broader application of this pedagogical approach in various learning environments. The novelty of this research is that it emphasizes the importance of recognizing and integrating students’ cultural backgrounds as a key element in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

This research used a qualitative descriptive method and in analyzing the data researchers used a thematic analysis to group them based on the strategies used by lecturers to improve students’ speaking. The data was found by researchers by conducting interviews with 3 different lecturers and implementing culturally responsive teaching in speaking classes. The results found by the researchers that there were 5 strategies and each strategy has several elements. There were 5 strategies, namely 1. Introduction and understanding of students’ cultural backgrounds, 2. Strategy for Integrating Multicultural Content, 3. Create a classroom environment that supports and respects diversity, 4. Activities or Projects to Encourage Students to Speak about Their Culture, 5. Assessment of Speaking Skills by Considering Cultural Diversity and several elements, namely 1. Initial Information Gathering and Personal Approach, 2. Use of Multicultural Materials and Direct Interaction, 3. Building an Inclusive Climate and Cultural Celebration, 4. Personal Cultural Expression and Interactive Method, 5. Inclusive Assessment and Constructive Feedback. With this strategy, it can be said that students’ speaking improves because the materials are based on their cultural background so it is easy for them to express what they want to say when speaking with their classmates, during group discussions, or talking together with their lecturers in class when the teaching and learning process is taking place.
