Abstract

Vocabulary is basic knowledge of the students to mastery in language skill. Students have a lot of vocabulary automatically able to speak and to write within communication. Limited vocabulary also can influence students’ comprehension in listening and reading. Those become some of the considerations of the researcher to conduct this research when doing an observation at SMP Negeri 12 Parepare since the students show very poor achievement in vocabulary Mastery. In this case, the researcher try to solve the problem of students’ vocabulary mastery by implement one of innovative learning strategies that is Memory Strategy. The objective of the research is to find out whether or not the use of Memory Strategy is able to improve vocabulary mastery of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 12 Parepare. The researcher applied quasi-experimental method, with two group pre-test and post-test design. The samples where chosen by using random sampling technique which consisted of 35 students from two classes taken from the population. The result of the data analysis showed that there was significant difference of the students’ vocabulary mastery before and after teaching vocabulary through Memory Strategy. It is proved by the result of the statistical analysis by using SPSS 21.0 application with applying t-test calculation where the significant value of pre-test (0.235) was higher than the level of significant (0.05) and post-test (0.000) was lower than the level of significant (0.05).

Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the important mastery in English. People can communicate or talk with others by creating a sentence either verbally or in writing. The function of a sentence is to convey the message or the specific intent. So that the message can be up and understandable manner of speaking. This research was based on the students problem regarding the English teaching. Especially the students vocabulary mastery. It was caused by the teaching activity applied in the classroom, where the teacher was more active than students. Consequently, the students vocabulary mastery was low. Therefore, the objective of the research is to find out whether or not the use of the cartoons films able to improve vocabulary mastery of seventh grade junior high schools in UPTD SMPN 1 Parepare. The researcher applied quasi-experimental design with two groups pretest and posttest design. The population of this research was the seventh grade students at UPTD SMPN 1 Parepare academic year 2020/2021. The sample of the research was taken by using total random sampling which consisted of 64 students from two classes taken from the population of the seventh grade students of UPTD SMPN 1 Parepare. VII.6 as the experimental class and VII.9 as the control class.The result of the data analysis shown that the students vocabulary mastery was improved. It was shown by the mean score of the pretest in the experimental class was 50.00 while the control class 55.43. Besides that, the mean score of posttest on experimental was 83.12 while on control class 64.68. It was proved the t-test 2.380 was greater than the t-table 2.000 with degree of freedom (df)=(N1+N2-2) 62 for 0.05 level of significance. It can be concluded that the results of the scores indicate that cartoon films are quite effective in implementing UPTD SMPN 1 Parepare

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, there were many ways that schools used to keep learning going, and one of the learning approaches that are meaningful and fun in the child's world is joyful Learning. SDIT Al-Furqan located in Enrekang regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, also felt the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The most visible effect is that their enthusiasm for Learning has decreased because they have been "sent home" for a long time. The researchers concluded that using children's songs will be easy to gain success in their listening goal and make the students more interested in learning English. For this reason, English for beginners in the new normal era through joyful Learning can be used as a choice to restore the learning mood of students. Joyful Learning assumed as a worthwhile learning activity in English. The researcher applied a pre-experimental class design with one group pretest and posttest design. The population of this research was fifth-grade students of SDIT AL-Furqan, Indonesia. The data analysis showed that the joyful learning method positively impacts the students. It was proved by the students' mean score in pretest was better than in posttest. Moreover, the students also give their positive perceptions of implementing joyful Learning. Briefly, joyful learning activities positively affect beginner elementary school students' English achievement.

Abstract

Agricultural productivity cannot be separated from the use of technology by farmers. For example, in Enrekang Regency, there are still farmers who have not maximized the use of technology because it is considered expensive. Technology can be engineered but does not change the work function as an appropriate technology that is easy and cheap. For example, for corn farmers, fertilization is still traditional and takes up much time and energy, making farmers tired. Therefore dissemination was carried out to accelerate technology adoption, one tool that is easy to make using simple and inexpensive materials is a fertilizer sowing tool that is used to fertilize crops such as corn, chili, tomatoes, mustard greens, or cabbage for farmers in Buntu Batu District, Kabupaten Enrekang. Activities carried out by counseling and training methods as well as demonstrations of the use of tools. This fertilizer-sowing tool is made of several sizes of pipes that work on the same principle as a drill and the fertilizer that comes out can be adjusted to the needs of the plants. Participants appreciated the results of the socialization activities in the form of counseling and training on assembling fertilizer sowing tools from PVC pipes and demonstrations. The people in Pasui Village and Lunjen Village responded well to the socialization of the sow fertilizer tool because the technology offered was very much needed and helped farming communities who complained of back pain after every fertilization. Local farmers will then reproduce the existence of these tools after learning how to make them so that they can enjoy them directly.

Abstract

This research is based on students' problems related to learning English, especially in students' reading comprehension skills, where students have difficulty understanding the content of texts in English lessons, especially in terms of reading texts. In addition, this study applies the use of Herringbone Technique to assist students in improving their reading comprehension skills. Reading is defined as a scanning process that involves deciphering symbols, words to explain the meaning contained. Herringbone technique is a technique that can give students the opportunity to more easily find ideas contained in a reading with six comprehension questions (5W+1H). The researcher used a pre-experimental design, with two groups of test designs including pre-test and post-test. The research sample consisted of 21 students from one class taken from the eighth grade population at UPT SMP Negeri 2 Pangsid. This research consists of three stages including: preparation stage, implementation stage, and data analysis stage. The instrument used in this study is a reading comprehension test sheet which aims to determine the extent to which students' learning abilities are. The results of the tests carried out and data analysis found that students' reading comprehension abilities increased after treatment. With this, the average value of the pretest is 55.23 and the postest is 78.09. From these data, the reading comprehension ability of eighth graders at UPT SMP Negeri 2 Pangsid increased by using the Herrinbone technique. By analyzing the data manually, the result of the t-test score (11.442) is higher than the t-table (a 0.05, from df 21-1 = 20 students = 1.725 This means that the achievement of the eighth grade students' reading comprehension ability at UPT SMP Negeri 2 Pangsid has a significant increase. In conclusion, the use of the Herringbone technique can and is used to improve the understanding of eighth grade students at UPT SMP Negeri 2 Pangsid for the 2021/2022 academic year.

Abstract

This research was conducted to know how the teachers effect on their students. In particular, the influence of teacher creativity on students' interest in learning in seventh grade SMP Negeri 2 Parepare. Teacher creativity is one way to increase student interest in learning, therefore researchers researched to determine how efficiently the influence of teachers on students in seventh grade of Junior High School 2 Parepare. This type of research is a qualitative one conducted with teachers and students. The population of this research is the seventh grade of junior high school 2 Parepare. The respondents of this study consisted of 3 seventh grade teachers. Researchers conducted interview and observation to obtain data. The results showed that the teacher's creativity in teaching greatly increased student interest in learning. Students become very enthusiastic and excited about the teaching and learning process. Especially in this modern era, teaching millennial children is very difficult; therefore it requires high teacher creativity.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the benefits provided for the ownership of English test certificate (TKBI) for job seekers and employees in a job. The need for English test that is used at the level of education as a condition to complete the study is now starting to penetrate into recruitment requirements in the world of work. Therefore, the policy of English test becomes a condition of recruitment of workers in various agencies is currently the main topic.This study uses a qualitative case study research method with the design of participants from job seekers and employees as research objects. The object studied consisted of 5 people consisting of 2 job seekers and 3 employees from different agencies and for data collection sourced from observations, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that the participants supported the many benefits obtained from the ownership of English test certificates, especially to support their careers in the world of work. But on the other hand, this study also found the conclusion that the policy to make the English test a condition of recruitment in various agencies is still not appropriate to apply and the application of the test must adjust to the needs of the relevant agencies.

Abstract

This study aim to train students' vocabulary abilities using scrabble. Based on the data from the observations of the researcher through the student's vocabulary knowledge test, the students' ability was still classified as low before got treatment. This is caused by the teacher's media which makes students less interested in the English learning process. So the researchers tried to improve students' vocabulary skills by using the Scrabble game in seventh grade students at SMPN 3 Parepare. The researcher used a quasi-experimental design. The population was 60 students consisting of 30 students each class at SMPN 3 Parepare. Class VII.5 as the experimental class and class VII.4 as the control class. Researcher using random sampling in took sampling in this research. Then the researchers used the pre-test and post-test for data collection. The results of the data analysis showed that the students' vocabulary knowledge skills increased in the learning process using the Scrabble game. This is indicated by the difference between the students' mean score in the experimental class in the pre-test (54.08) post-test (77.78) and the control class in the pre-test (47.31) post-test (62.3) while the value difference distance is 23.7 for the experimental class and 14.99 for the control class. So, this means that the vocabulary skills of seventh grade students at SMPN 3 Parepare have a significant increase. In conclusion, the use of scrabble in training the vocabulary skills of students at SMPN 3 Parepare for the 2020/2021 school year.

Abstract

Reading skill is one of the important abilities in learning and teaching process. Reading very important for student, because by reading the student can explore their ideas, creativity and knowledge.Besides, most students feel bored with reading. Those become some of the considerations of the researchers to conduct this research when doing an observation SMP Negeri 3 Parepare.Thus, the objective of this research was to find out whether or not the implementation of short stories text can improve the reading comprehension of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Parepare. Because students to showing the low ability in reading. Then, modifying the instructional methods can become a problem solving for the lack of the students in reading. In this case, the implementation of the short story as an instructional method is suggested to overcome the problem. Then, objective of the research is to find out whether or not the use of short story method can improve the reading comprehension of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Parepare significantly. The method used in this research was quasi-experimental method that used two classes which consisted of one experimental clas and control class. The experimental class consisted of 20studets and the control class consisted of 20 students. So, the total of the sample was 40 students. The data required from reading comprehension test was analyzed by using SPSS 21. The result of the data analysis shows that the students’ reading comprehension improved. It can be seen from the mean score of pre-test and pos-test between experimental class and control class. The mean score of experimental class in pre-test was 36.50 and in pos-test was 59.50. Meanwhile, the mean score of the control class 34.45 and in pos-test was 45.65. It indicated that the improvement of the experimental class who got treatment by using short stories text was higer than control class who did not get treatmen by using short stories text. After analyzing the data by using the test formula, the result of the t-test value in post-test was 4.009 and t-table value was 2.032. It means that the t-test value (4.009) was higher than t-table value (2.032). This indicates that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected and the students who were taught through Short Story are better than the students who were taught trough Longer Story.

Abstract

This research was intended to reveal that: can mnemonic technique increase vocabulary mastery of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Suppa Pinrang significantly. This research used Quasi Experimental method, with two class pre-test and post-test design. The population was the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Suppa Pinrang. The samples were drawn by using nonequivalent group design that consisted of 40 students which were class VIII, A as experimental class, VIII, C as the control class. The data were acquired by using vocabulary test. The vocabulary mastery test was applied in the pre-test and post-test. The data required from reading test was analyzed by using t-test and percentage technique. The result of the data analyzed shows that mnemonic technique can increase vocabulary mastery of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Suppa Pinrang significantly. It was proved by the mean score of the pre-test was (38.94) and the post-test was (82.10). It showed that used of mnemonic technique can increase vocabulary mastery of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Suppa Pinrang significantly. After analyzing the data by the t-test formula, the result of t-test value in post-test was (4.83) and t-table value was (2.024). Those indicated that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. The students who were taught through mnemonic technique were better than the students who were taught words list technique.
