Abstract

Beras Merah merupakan komoditi melimpah di wilayah Kecamatan Baraka, Kabupaten Enrekang. Pemerintah Daerah Kabupaten Enrekang sangat merespon pengembangan komoditi beras merah ini sebagai komoditi unggulan yang dihasilkan masyarakat setempat. Pemerintah setempat telah mengalokasikan sejumlah dana untuk pengembangan komoditas Beras Merah mulai tahun 2013 ini. Meskipun demikian ada sejumlah kendala untuk pengembangan Beras Merah di daerah Enrekang, yaitu pengetahuan, teknologi dan ketrampilan masyarakat daerah tentang Beras Merah masih terbatas dalam hal budidaya untuk peningkatan produksi yang aman lingkungan, Penanganan pasca panen Beras Merah, dalam komunitas masyarakat Enrekang. Masyarakat belum mempunyai pengetahuan bagaimana mengolah Beras Merah menjadi produk unggulan lokal yang mempunyai nilai jual tinggi, serta belum optimalnya Peningkatan Sistem Kelembagaan Komoditas Beras Merah. Oleh sebab itu dalam kegiatan program Iptek bagi Wilayah (IbW) ini akan diimplementasikan sejumlah kegiatan pengembangan Komoditas Beras Merah melalui Pemberdayaan Sumber Daya Lokal dan juga sebagai wadah pemasaran hasil pengolahan Beras Merah di Kecamatan Baraka, Kabupaten Enrekang agar dapat dengan mudah dijangkau oleh konsumen melalui prasarana pasar dan untuk meningkatkan pendapatan keluarga. Strategis pelaksanaan program pengembangan Beras Merah di Kabupaten Enrekang dengan beberapa program kegiatan yaitu 1). Perbaikan Budidaya Beras Merah, 2). Peningkatan Swadana dan Swadaya Masyarakat, dengan Program Pengembangan Teknologi Tepat Guna pascapanen 3) Kegiatan Peningkatan Sistem Kelembagaan Komoditas Beras Merah.

Abstract

This study is directed to explore the teachers’ and students’ thoughts on instructional components involved in CBI tasks for productive skills learning in Indonesian secondary school context. There are ten teachers with more than five years of experience teaching English and eighty-six students taken as respondents. The findings reported the teacher voices focus on appropriate instructional components to support design of task-based learning through CBI approach, namely learning objective, learning material, learning activity, class organization, delivery mode, skill focus, use of media, learning resource, students’ worksheet and evaluation. In designing CBI tasks, learning objectives firstly formulated based on basic competence, the selection of learning material theme is surrounding-based materials and cultural-based materials, learning activities are organized in pairs and group in order to active interaction process in a learning atmosphere. They recommended to utilize web-based materials as learning resources and arrange students’ worksheet to empower the autonomous practical activity. Additionally, the students’ voices on contents of productive skills tasks clarified the tasks cover vocabulary, specific information, caption of picture, reading text, short dialogue and short paragraph as well as including the integration of language sub skills and skills. It is supportive contents for English learning tasks based on CBI approach.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, there were many ways that schools used to keep learning going, and one of the learning approaches that are meaningful and fun in the child's world is joyful Learning. SDIT Al-Furqan located in Enrekang regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, also felt the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The most visible effect is that their enthusiasm for Learning has decreased because they have been "sent home" for a long time. The researchers concluded that using children's songs will be easy to gain success in their listening goal and make the students more interested in learning English. For this reason, English for beginners in the new normal era through joyful Learning can be used as a choice to restore the learning mood of students. Joyful Learning assumed as a worthwhile learning activity in English. The researcher applied a pre-experimental class design with one group pretest and posttest design. The population of this research was fifth-grade students of SDIT AL-Furqan, Indonesia. The data analysis showed that the joyful learning method positively impacts the students. It was proved by the students' mean score in pretest was better than in posttest. Moreover, the students also give their positive perceptions of implementing joyful Learning. Briefly, joyful learning activities positively affect beginner elementary school students' English achievement.

Abstract

Technology and education are two things that cannot be separated until now. Especially when the pandemic outbreak hit which required the education world to implement an online learning system, smartphones became one of the choices for learning media. However, researchers found a phenomenon that occurred in MAN Sidenreng Rappang after the covid-19 pandemic, where students could use smartphones in the learning process in the classroom. This study aims to determine how students' perceptions of smartphone use in learning English at MAN Sidenreng Rappang. Participants in the study consisted of seven students from twelfth grade. In addition, this study used observation, interview, and documentation techniques to obtain data. From the findings, researchers found that smartphones can be used as one of the learning media in accordance with the results of research that shows a positive impact related to the use of smartphones in learning English in the classroom, such as making learning more fun, making it easier for students to access learning materials. Smartphones also provide various features and applications that help in the learning process, such as easier assignment collection, helping the translation process, and various applications that can support the learning process. The use of smartphones also improves students' skills, especially in improving vocabulary, speaking, and listening skills. In addition, the use of smartphones also motivates students to learn. But from the findings, researchers also found several obstacles faced by students while using smartphones, such as disruption of learning focus, data packages, and poor internet connection.

Abstract

The students’ reading comprehension need to be improved. One of the problems is caused by the teachers that still depend on the text book to teach students in teaching reading comprehension. Therefore, the researchers proposed a solution to overcome this problem by implementing a different learning strategy, namely sketch to stretch strategy. This research objective was to find out whether the implementation of sketch to stretch strategy able to improve the students’ reading comprehension. The researchers used a pre-experimental design with one group pretest and posttest design. The population of this research was the second-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Suppa. The sample of this research was class VIII.2 consists of 23 students. In collecting data, the researchers used a reading comprehension test which was divided into pretest and posttest. The technique of analysis data used mean score and t-test formula for an independent sample. The findings demonstrated that the result of mean score in post-test (78.04) was higher than the mean score in pre-test (49.1). The posttest standard deviation was (10.1). At a significance level of 0.05 and a degree of freedom (df) of 22, the value of the t-test (17.558) was higher than the t-table (1.717). As a result, hypotheses H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. The researchers concluded that implementation of sketch to stretch strategy improves the reading comprehension competence of the students.

Abstract

This experimental study examines the effectiveness of Quizizz application in enhancing Junior High School students' vocabulary mastery. The study aims to address the problem of low scores in English vocabulary among Junior High School students, and investigates whether the use of Quizizz as an interesting and interactive media can improve their vocabulary mastery. The study employed a pre-test and post-test control group design, with 22 students in the experimental group and 23 students in the control group selected using random sampling. The experimental group received were taught using Quizizz, while the control group used other similar web-apps. Both groups received instruction in vocabulary. The study found that the use of Quizizz significantly improved students' vocabulary mastery, as evidenced by the higher mean score of the experimental group (81.68) compared to the control group (77.21). However, the study's findings are limited to Junior High School students and may not generalize to other age groups or contexts. The findings suggest that incorporating interactive and engaging online learning tools such as Quizizz can be a promising approach to addressing the problem of low scores in English vocabulary among Junior High School students. However, further research is needed to determine the generalizability of these findings to other age groups and contexts.

Abstract

There are many strategies that educators can use to support successful learning in the classroom, especially for teachers of English, with all the preconditions needed for educators to use learning strategies appropriate to students' situations and circumstances that greatly depend on the situation and the problems that arise. Faced with more complex situations, with all the hassle existing in determining learning strategies, the covid-19 pandemic arrived which interrupted the application of learning strategies as students had to stay at home and wiped out the teacher-student interaction for several years after pandemic covid-19 over. By using a qualitative descriptive research method used to analyze events, phenomena, and social conditions that are well suited to what all levels of society and even the whole country are facing, namely the covid-19 pandemic. The results of this study show that The teachers' strategies applied by English teachers in teaching reading comprehension post-pandemic covid-19 is teacher-activated background knowledge of students, reading aloud together, using a dictionary to find the meaning of difficult words, and explaining again the message of the text, the last teacher asked students to answer the question of the text, teachers’ problems in teaching reading comprehension post-pandemic covid-19 the low interest of students to study English, the students making noise in the classroom, and the students being lazy, the teacher’s strategy solved the problems were teachers always motivated students to study hard, especially in English, gave advice to the students who made a noise or when they sleepy, moved the place of students when they made a noise and gave reward to the students who study hard and got high score in the class.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the students’ perception on English meeting club to support their English-speaking skill. The subject of this study were students at Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Parepare who are the members of English meeting club in LIBAM (Lintas Imajinasi Bahasa Mahasiswa). This study was case study of descriptive qualitative. There are seven students participated as research respondent. This study used interview as a research instrument. From the result of interview, majority of students had the perception that the English club was able to improve their speaking skill. They experienced development when speaking English in English meeting club such as no longer filler words anymore, can pronounce words properly, speaking correctly and know more about grammar. In addition, after joining English meeting club, they become more confident to speak in front of people. They also taught and trained to teach English at the junior and senior high school which is called TOT (Training of Trainer) in preparation for becoming tutor in the school-built program and English camp provided by LIBAM in several schools. The researchers concluded that the students had the perception that the English club was able to improve and support in developing English speaking skill. They are also more interested being taught by cheerful tutors in informal situations preferred in regular class, so the English meeting club provides students with a place to practice speaking English well without fear of making mistakes and it is appropriate media to improve students' speaking skill.

Abstract

Hello English is an English learning application used to help users improve their English language skills. The application presents a variety of learning materials, interactive exercises, and games designed to improve students' vocabulary. Therefore, this study aims to see whether students' vocabulary mastery can improve by using the Hello English application. The researchers applied the pre-experimental method with one group pre-test and post-test design in this study. The population of this study were eighth grade students of SMPN 10 Parepare. The sample of this study was eighth grade students consisting of 27 students, students were selected using simple random sampling. The form of pre-test given was 10 forms of matching test and 10 forms of fill the blank. The results showed that the pre-test scores of eighth grade students improved after being taught using Hello English application. The average score obtained by students through the pre-test was 68.51 and the post-test was 77.96. This is supported by the hypothesis test obtained t table value of 1.705. Thus, because the calculated t-test of 8.256 > 1.705, the basic selection of decision making is H0 rejected and Ha accepted. which means the Hello English application can improve the vocabulary mastery of eighth grade students of SMPN 10 Parepare. In addition, students also look active and enthusiastic in the learning process by using the Hello English application as a learning media.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the students' perception of using Edmodo in writing subjects by students of the English Department, Muhammadiyah University of Parepare. This study was also conducted to find out the importance of knowing how the students write properly and correctly according to the writing instructions applied to the Writing Subject of the Department of English, University of Muhammadiyah Parepare based on student perceptions. This study uses a mix methode with a design carried out with students. The population in this study is the students of Department of English, Muhammadiyah University of Parepare. The respondents of this study consisted of eight respondents. In addition, researchers conducted interviews and questionnaires to obtain data. The results of this study indicate that the use of edmodo in distance learning is very effective because edmodo is supported by features that are already in it and is also effective in keeping the class running. However, this application does not support synchronous or face-to-face learning so that there are still shortcomings so students and teachers still have to use other applications to complete the technical learning.
