Abstract

One form of empowering farmers is providing continuous and contextual training. In its implementation, the training must be truly based on the needs of the farmers themselves. This is in line with the "bottom up" approach in community development. This Community Service Activity was held to help pig farmers in Wae Lolos Village, West Manggarai, in determining their own type and priority of training that needs to be carried out according to the farmers' conditions. This community service activity was arranged using the 'brainstorming' method, in which the participant was set up in small group discussions. The strategies taken were determined based on the SWOT analysis, then each strategy was distributed into training categories. Based on the discussions and analyzes that have been carried out with the farmers, the number of training matters has been determined, the first priority being training in the socio-economic field; second, feed and nutrition; third, production; and fourth, health sector. In addition to these four scopes, the results of this Community Service activity also recommend the importance of improving and redesigning the institutional aspects of animal husbandry at the community level in Wae Lolos Village

Abstract

Abstrak: Masalah yang dialami oleh mitra dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat (PkM) ini adalah sulit menyediakan pakan hijauan bagi ternak ruminansia ketika musim kemarau. Kegiatan PkM ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan mahasiswa dalam membuat silase untuk pakan ternak ruminansia. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan PkM ini adalah sosialisasi, demonstrasi pembuatan silase oelh pemateri dan praktik pembuatan silase secara mandiri oleh mitra. Sosialisasi dilakukan untuk meningkatakan pengetahuan tentang silase sedangkan demonstrasi serta praktik pembuatan silase secara mendiri dilakukan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan mitra dalam membuat silase. Langkah-langkah pelaksanaan kegiatan PkM meliputi rancangan kegiatan PkM, prestest, sosialisasi kepada mitra tentang silase, demonstrasi pembuatan silase oleh pemateri, praktik, pembuatan silase secara mandiri oleh mitra dan posttest. Mitra yang terlibat dalam kegiatan PkM ini adalah mahasiswa di lingkungan Universitas Katolik Indonesia Santu Paulus Ruteng yang berjumlah 30 orang. Hasil kegiatan PkM menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan dan keterampilan mitra sebelum dilakukan sosialisasi, demonstrasi dan praktik mandiri pembuatan silase mencapai 32,67% sedangkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan mitra setelah dilakukan sosialisasi, demonstrasi dan praktik mandiri pembuatan silase mencapai 90%. Hasil kegiatan PkM ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengetahuan dan keterampilan mahasiswa (mitra) mengalami peningkatan dalam membuat silase bagi ternak ruminansia setelah dilakukan sosialisasi, demonstrasi dan praktik mandiri pembuatan silase.Abstract: The problem experienced by partners in this community service activity is the difficulty of providing forage for ruminants during the dry season. This community service activity was carried out with the aim of increasing students' knowledge and skills in making silage for ruminant animal feed. The method used in this community service activity is socialization, demonstration of making silage by the presenters and the practice of making silage independently by partners. Socialization was carried out to increase knowledge about silage while demonstrations and independent silage making practices were carried out to improve partners' skills in making silage. The steps for implementing community service activity include planning community service activities, pretest, outreach to partners about silage, demonstrations of making silage by presenters, practice, making silage independently by partners and posttest. The partners involved in this community service activity were students at the Catholic University of Indonesia Santu Paulus Ruteng, a total of 30 people. The results of community service activity show that the knowledge and skills of partners before socialization, demonstrations and independent practice of making silage reached 32.67% while the knowledge and skills of partners after socialization, demonstrations and independent practice of making silage reached 90%. The results of this community service activity can be interpreted that the knowledge and skills (partners) have increased in making silage for ruminants after socialization, demonstrations and students' independent practice of making silage.

Abstract

Abstrak: Masalah yang dialami oleh mahasiswa peternakan Universitas Katolik Indonesia Santu Paulus Ruteng adalah pemahaman yang masih rendah tetang struktur anatomy-physiology sebagai basic laboratory skills. Tujuan dilakukan kegiatan PkM ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan mahasiswa struktur anatomi dan fisiologi sebagai basic laboratory skills. Metode yang diagunakan dalam PkM ini adalah metode best practice VAK (Visual, Auditori, dan Kinestetik). Kelompok sasaran yang digunakan dalam kegietan PkM ini adalah mahasiswa peternakan Universitas Katolik Indonesia Santu Paulus Ruteng yang berjumlah 60 orang. Hasil kegiatan PkM ini melaporkan bahwa pemahaman mahasiswa tentang struktur anatomy-physiology sebagai basic laboratory skills mengalami peningkatan dari 40% sebelum menerapkan metode best practice VAK menjadi 86,67% setelah menerapkan metode best practice VAK. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode best practice VAK (Visual, Auditori, dan Kinestetik) mampu meningkatkan pemahaman mahasiswa tentang struktur anatomy-physiology sebagai basic laboratory skills.Abstract: The problem experienced by students under the care of the Indonesian Catholic University of Santu Paulus Ruteng is the low understanding of the anatomical-physiological structure as a basic laboratory skill. The purpose of this community sevice activity is to increase students' knowledge of the structure of anatomy and physiology as a basis for laboratory skills. The method used in this community service is the VAK best practice method (Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic). The target group used in this communty sevice activity were 60 students at the Indonesian Catholic University Santu Paulus Ruteng orphanage. The results of this community sevice activity reported that students' understanding of anatomical-physiological structures as basic laboratory skills had increased from 40% before applying the VAK best practice method to 86.67% after applying the VAK best practice method. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the application of VAK best practice methods (Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic) is able to increase students' understanding of anatomical-physiological structures as basic laboratory skills.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kambing kacang merupakan ternak unggulan di Desa Nampar Tabang, Kabupaten Manggarai Timur, Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) karena banyak masyarakat banyak pendatang di daerah pelabuhan Reo merupakan mayoritas muslim dan sering dimanfaatkan sebagai qurban saat idul adha dan juga sebagai mahar pernikahan. Namun, pola pemeliharaan yang masih tradisional membuat produksi dari ternak kambing ini belum maksimal karena peternak tidak melihat manajemen pembibitan, manajemen pakan, manajemen perkandangan dan manajemen limbah. Tujuan dari Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini adalah untuk mengedukasi peternak bagaimana manajemen yang baik dalam pemeliharaan ternak kambing ntuk dapat memaksimalkan produksi ternak kambing. Metode yang digunakan adalah penyuluhan dan diskusi untuk menambah pengetahuan tentang manajemen pembibitan, manajemen pakan, manajemen perkandangan dan manajemen limbah yang baik. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 30 orang peternak kambing di Desa Nampar Tabang dan hasilnya adalah adanya peningkatan pengetahuan peternak dalam pemeliharaan ternak kambing, baik dalam manajemen pembibitan, manajemen pakan, manajemen perkandangan maupun manajemen limbah dengan baik sebanyak 100% peningkatan pengetahuan.Abstract: Peanut goats are the leading livestock in Nampar Tabang Village, East Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) because many people in the Reo port area are the majority of Muslims and are often used as sacrifices during Eid al-Adha and also as wedding dowries. However, traditional maintenance patterns make the production of goats not optimal because farmers do not see nursery management, feed management, housing management and waste management. The purpose of this Community Service Program is to educate farmers how good management in raising goats can maximize goat production. The methods used are counseling and discussion to increase knowledge about nursery management, feed management, housing management and good waste management. This activity was attended by 30 goat farmers in Nampar Tabang Village and the result was an increase in farmers' knowledge in raising goats, both in nursery management, feed management, housing management and waste management properly as much as 100% increase in knowledge.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kelurahan Pitak merupakan satu dari 20 kelurahan di Kecamatan Langke Rembong, Kabupaten Manggarai. Masyarakat di kelurahan ini, diketahui banyak memelihara ternak lokal. Permasalahan saat ini di Kelurahan Pitak adalah peternak kesulitan memperoleh pakan ternak, selain karena harga pakan komersil lebih mahal, juga karena sedikitnya wilayah yang dapat dijadikan lahan pakan ternak. Tim PkM Prodi Peternakan melaksanakan pengabdian kepada peternak dan calon peternakan yang ada di Kelurahan Pitak melalui tiga rangkaian kegiatan, yaitu penyuluhan, pelatihan, dan evaluasi pembuatan fermentasi Limbah Organik Pasar Inpres Ruteng . Rangkaian kegiatan ini bertujuan agar peternak dan calon peternak di Kelurahan Pitak dapat memanfaatkan limbah organik pasar, sebagai salah satu solusi kesulitan memperoleh pakan ternak . Pakan Ternak yang difermentasi diketahui memiliki kelebihan sebagai berikut, yaitu pakan memiliki masa simpan yang lebih panjang, nutrisi dalam pakan yang difermentasi dapat lebih optimal diserap oleh saluran pencernaan, serta tenaga dan waktu yang digunakan dalam mempersiapkan pakan lebih efisien. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi yang didapatkan dari pelaksanaan PkM ini, didapatkan peningkatan pemahaman pemahaman peternak dan calon peternak sebesar 50% tentang bahan pakan, bahan-bahan yang dapat digunakan sebagai pakan, dan penggunaan limbah pasar sebagai pakan ternak. Selain itu, produk fermentasi Limbah Organik Pasar yang dihasilkan juga berkualiatas baik dan aman diberikan kepada ternak.Abstract: Pitak subdistrict was one of 20 subdistricts in Langke Rembong District, Manggarai Regency. The community in this subdistrict were known to rearing a lot of local livestock. The current problem in the Pitak subdistrict was that it was difficult for farmers to acquire feed, besides that the commercial feed was more expensive, also because there were very few areas that could be used as forage fields. The community service of Prodi Peternakan team carried out community service for farmers and prospective farmers in the Pitak, through three series of activities, that is counseling, training, and evaluating the making of organic waste fermentation at the Ruteng Traditional Market. This series of activities aimed to enable farmers and prospective farmers in the Pitak to utilize market organic waste, as a solution to the difficulty of obtaining feed. Fermented feed was known to have the following advantages, namely feed has a longer shelf life, nutrients in fermented feed can be more optimally absorbed by the digestive tract, and the energy and time used in preparing feed were more efficient. Based on the evaluation results obtained from the implementation of this community service, there was an increase in the understanding of farmers and prospective farmers by 50% relating to feed ingredients, materials that can be used as feed, and the use of market waste as feed. Besides that, the market organic waste fermented products produced were also in good quality and safe for livestock.

Abstract

A by-product of plantation waste of avocado seed (Persea americana Mill) contains nutrients including crude fat, crude fiber, crude protein, ash, Ca, P, Energy Metabolism, and polyphenol complex. This research aims to evaluate the effect of using avocado seed meal in feed on quail performance including feed consumption, hen day production, feed conversion, and income over feed costs. This research was conducted in two stages, the first stage was laboratory research. The second phase of the experimental research requires 120 quails aged 14 days. This study used RAL with 4 treatments and 6 replications. Treatment was given P0 (100% complete), P1 (98,5% complete feed + 1.5% avocado seed meal), P2 (98% complete feed + 2.0% avocado seed meal), P3 (97,5% complete feed + 2.5% avocado seed meal). The results of this study indicate that evaluating the application of avocado seed meal to a level of 2.5% cannot increase feed consumption, and HDP and IOFC cannot reduce feed conversion of quail.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to evaluate the supplementation of bitter melon flour as a feed additive on the physical (tenderness and WHC) and chemical (protein and fat content) quality of broiler meat. The material used in this study was a broiler Lohman strain produced by PT. Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk., unsex, and rearing for 35 days. This research method used a field experiment with 6 treatments with 5 replications. Each experimental unit was given basal feed treatment with the addition of antibiotics (Zinc Bacitracin 0.01%) (P0), 0% bitter melon flour (P1), 0.25% bitter melon flour (P2), 0.5% bitter melon flour (P3), 0.75% bitter melon flour (P4), and 1% bitter melon flour (P5). Data were analyzed with Analysis of Variance and continued with Duncan's Multiple Range Test if there were significant differences. The results showed that the addition of bitter melon flour as a feed additive didn't show a significant difference (P>0.05) in tenderness, Water Holding Capacity, protein content, and fat content of broiler meat. The conclusion of this study was that the addition of bitter melon flour as a feed additive showed relatively similar abilities to produce the physical and chemical quality of meat with antibiotics used as a feed additive for broilers.

Abstract

The application of health management is a determining factor for the success of a pig farm business. This research was conducted to find out the implementation of pig health management in CV. Roku, Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. The data used in this research was secondary data. The secondary data was reconfirmed to the owner using the direct interview method using questionnaires. Secondary data that has been confirmed using the interview method, was then analyzed descriptively. The practice of health management studied was the application of medication, biosecurity, and vaccination to gilts, sows, and piglets. The results of the study showed that the treatment of gilts reared on the farm was in the form of giving antibiotics, vitamins, and anthelmintics; medical measures performed on sows after giving birth in the form of giving antibiotics, vitamins, and anti-inflammatories while medical measures for sows after weaning are in the form of vitamins and antibiotics; as well as medical measures for piglets reared in the farm in the form of iron (Fe), vitamins, and antibiotics. The results of this study could be concluded that CV. Roku has not properly implemented pig health management, as evidenced by CV. Roku only applies medication but didn't apply biosecurity and vaccination at all to gilts, sows, and piglets in health management.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tingkah laku ternak sapi bali. Penelitian ini menggunakan sapi bali sebanyak 10 ekor dengan rata-rata umur 1 tahun. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Desa Papang dan Desa Wewo Kecamatan Satar Mese Manggarai. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif, data frekuensi dan durasi aktivitas ternak meliputi grazing, rumination dan istirahat. Pada hasil pengamatan frekuensi perilaku makan grazing pada sapi bali di Desa Papang dan Desa Wewo tidak ada perbedaan hasilnya 1,00. Sedangkan, pada hasil pengamatan frekuensi perilaku ruminasi pada sapi bali rata-rata frekuensi aktivitas pola perilaku ruminasi di Desa Papang dan Desa Wewo tidak berbeda secara signifikan yaitu 2,00 dan 1,67. Rata-rata hasil pengamatan frekuensi perilaku istirahat tidak jauh berbeda secara signifikan yaitu 1,50 dan 1,33. Pada hasil pengamatan durasi perilaku grazing tidak jauh berbeda hasilnya 20,00 menit dan 23,00. Sedangkan, pengamatan durasi perilaku ruminasi Rata-rata durasi tidak jauh berbeda hasilnya 21,67 dan 20,50. Pada hasil pengamatan durasi perilaku istirahat Rata-rata durasi di Desa Papang dan Desa Wewo tidak jauh berbeda hasilnya 21,83 menit dan 21,33 menit.

Abstract

Azolla microphylla merupakan tanaman paku air yang banyak ditemukan di atas permukaan air dan banyak ditemukan ditemukan pada lahan persawahan di Indonesia. Tanaman Azolla microphylla banyak dianggap sebagai gulma sehingga tidak dimanfaatkan secara maksimal dan Sebagian tanaman digunakan sebagai pupuk. Potensi produksi Azolla microphylla cukup baik dengan memiliki karakter pertumbuhan yang cepat. Pemanfaatan tepung Azolla microphylla tidak hanya sebagai pupuk, tetapi mulai dikembangkan sebagai salah satu sumber bahan pakan ternak, termasuk unggas. Azolla microphylla kaya dengan protein, serta mengandung asam amino. Analisis kimia Azolla microphylla 80,53%, protein kasar 24,06%, serat kasar 13,44%, lemak kasar 3,27%, abu 19,47%, BETN 37,71%. Azolla microphylla umumnya mengandung keterbatasan dalam protein dan memiliki serat kasar yang cukup tinggi sehingga memerlukan pengolahan teknologi yaitu fermentasi yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan daya cerna dan efisiensi pakan serta kadar air tinggi. Tanaman azolla dimanfaatakan sebagai salah satu terobosan bahan pakan yang digunakan bagi ternak unggas. Pemanfaatan tepung azolla terfermentasi sebanyak 5-10% memiliki manfaat terhadap performa produksi meliputi konsumsi, pertumbuhan bobot badan (PBB) dan konversi pakan pada ternak unggas broiler, petelur, dan itik.   Kata kunci: Azolla microphyla, manfaat, analisis kimia, ternak unggas
