Abstract

This systematic review of literature investigates the use of multimodal tools and acquisition of multiliteracies skills to facilitate effective learning in early childhood educational settings. The review covered a total of 15 relevant articles obtained from databases such as ERIC, Education Full Text, PsycINFO, and Web of Science. Having analyzed and synthesized the current evidence, the review provides a significant and valuable insight into the use and acquisition of multiliteracies skills and tools to facilitate learning in early childhood settings. The sole purpose of this review is to add to the body of existing literature in multiliteracies. The study also provides answer to the only research question of the review which was what are the most effective ways to implement multiliteracies and multimodal techniques in the classroom and how early childhood education can benefit from the systematic application of multiliteracies and multimodal learning. The result of the review revealed that, teachers are facing greater challenges than ever in choosing and designing a pedagogy that can engage students in meaningful literacy practices due to the changing literacy needs in the multimedia environment, the changing lifeworld’s of the learners, and the changing dimensions of school literacies. Therefore, the review recommended that policymakers must work to incorporate all multimodal tools and technology into the curriculum, especially for early childhood education. Also, schools and learning centers should provide limitless opportunities in early childhood classrooms and environment to assist, direct, and motivate students to learn.

Abstract

The study examined the effect of a round-robin instructional strategy on pupils’ academic performance in Mathematics. The study adopted a quasi-experimental research design. Two public primary schools were randomly selected to participate in the study. One validated and reliably tested research instrument titled ‘Mathematics Performance Test’ (MPT) was used. The reliability index of MPT was determined using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). Two research hypotheses were formulated and tested with Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The findings of the study revealed that treatment had a significant effect on pupils’ academic achievement in mathematics. However, the interaction of treatment and gender did not have any significant effect on pupils’ academic achievement. Based on the findings, it was concluded that round round-robin instructional strategy can improve the academic achievement of pupils. Based on the conclusion, it was recommended that teachers should be trained on the use of the round-robin instructional strategy.

Abstract

This study explored parents’ involvement in their children’s education in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. A descriptive research design was adopted. A total of 216 parents were selected using a multi-stage sampling technique. Validated and reliably tested research instrument using Questionnaire on Parents’ Involvement in their Children’s Education (QPICE) was used. The reliability index of QPICE (r = 0.78) was determined using the test-retest method. One research question and one hypothesis were raised and formulated respectively to guide the study. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, and t-test. The findings of the study revealed that the level of parents’ involvement in their children’s education was low. Also, there was a significant difference in parents’ involvement in their children’s education based on gender. It was concluded that the level of parents’ involvement in their children’s education was low. The study recommended that parents should be more involved in their children’s education

Ten (10) villages were selected across the Dutsinma Local Government. based on the researcher’s interest, and a total number of three hundred (300) adults were selected as the sample size for this study using a simple random sampling technique. The test re-test reliability method was used to determine the validity and reliability of the instrument using Pearson product-moment correlation (PPMC) and a co-efficient of 0.73 was established. The research questions and hypothesis raised for this study were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation and (ANOVA). The findings from this study showed that the lack of money, which is a consequence of marrying early and getting pregnant, results in girls not being able to study, Distance of schools and depleted school infrastructures, war outbreak and their family’s social status as well as their own personal choice of falling in-love than prioritizing their studies resulted to girl’s poor access to formal education. Also resolving Challenges confronting Girl Child/women access to formal Education, government needs to Enacting laws that make educating the girl-child mandatory, And the hypothesis tested revealed that there was a significant difference parent’s perception on the Challenges confronting Girls in Pursuing Formal Education in Dutsinma Local Government, Katsina State based on educational Qualification.

Abstract

The study investigated the influence of parents’ attitudes and socioeconomic status on pupils’ academic performance in mathematics. A survey research design was adopted. The population of this study consisted of all parents of middle-basic school pupils in Ilorin, south LGEA. As a population sample, a simple random sampling technique was used to select one hundred (100) pupils whose parents are the target population of the study. Ten (10) government and ten (10) private basic schools in the area were randomly selected. In order to represent an adequate representation of the entire population, five pupils from the basic six classes in each of the twenty schools were randomly selected to make a total of one hundred (100). A self-developed, structured questionnaire was used to elicit responses from parents. The instrument was validated by two research experts and tested for reliability using the test rest at a 0.73 coefficient value through Cronbach’s alpha. The academic performance of pupils was limited to their’ mathematics grade scores in a promotion examination. The study was guided by two research questions and one hypothesis. An analysis of multiple regression was used to test the hypothesis at the 0.05 alpha level of significance. The result of the findings therefore revealed that the attitudes and socioeconomic status of parents do not influence pupils’ academic performance in mathematics. It was then recommended that parents who are not educated or have low educational qualifications feel encouraged to enroll their children in remedial summer coaching provided by private bodies during holidays to supplement the regular school program in an attempt to improve academic performance, especially in mathematics. There should also be periodic workshops, seminars, and symposiums for in-service mathematics teachers to keep them abreast of new teaching strategies in science and mathematics.
