Abstract

Critical thinking skill is a major concern in education throughout the world, with the aim of preparing students for the learning context of the 21st century. However, many teachers have difficulty adopting this new teaching method. This qualitative research aims to investigate teachers' views and the obstacles they face when implementing the Socratic method, an inquiry-based learning approach, in the classroom. Researchers used a purposive sampling method to select five Indonesian language teachers and conducted semi-structured interviews. Data analysis shows that most teachers see positively the application of the Socratic method in improving students' critical thinking skills. However, they face challenges, especially related to knowledge of teaching materials, questioning skills, student participation, topic selection, and time constraints. Based on these findings, this research recommends the need for additional support for teachers, especially in terms of understanding Indonesian language subject matter and effective teaching skills while implementing the Socratic method in the classroom.

Abstract

Rendahnya academic engagement dapat memunculkan berbagai permasalahan baru yang berhubungan dengan prestasi akademik mahasiswa, kesehatan mental, dan isu akademik lainnya. Penelitian terdahulu menunjukkan bahwa academic engagement memiliki hubungan negatif yang signifikan dengan intensi untuk drop out. Berdasarkan data yang dirilis oleh Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi, Riset, dan Teknologi (Ditjen Diktiristek), Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi (Kemendikbudristek) pada tahun 2023, tercatat sebanyak 4% atau 375.134 mahasiswa perguruan tinggi di Indonesia mengalami putus studi. Dari jumlah tersebut, mahasiswa program sarjana mendominasi sebanyak 308.495 orang atau 82,24% dari keseluruhan kasus drop out. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji peran psychological well-being sebagai variabel mediator dalam hubungan antara sense of belongingness dan academic engagement pada mahasiswa di Surabaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif korelasional dengan variabel mediator. Teknik pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan metode accidental sampling, melibatkan 384 mahasiswa sebagai responden. Analisis mediasi menggunakan perangkat statistik Jamovi versi 2.6.17 menunjukkan bahwa sense of belongingness memiliki hubungan langsung yang signifikan dengan academic engagement. Namun, analisis hubungan tidak langsung menunjukkan bahwa psychological well-being tidak berperan sebagai mediator dalam hubungan tersebut. Dengan demikian, H1 diterima, sedangkan H2 ditolak.

Abstract

This study highlights the positive impact of digital learning media on students' academic performance. The analysis shows that the frequency of media usage, the type of media used, and students' perceptions of media effectiveness all have a significant relationship with academic outcomes. The perception of media effectiveness has the strongest correlation (0.55) with a p-value of 0.001, indicating that well-designed media is crucial for supporting student comprehension. These findings confirm Mayer's (2001) multimedia learning theory, emphasizing the importance of verbal and visual elements in learning. Sweller's (1988) cognitive theory suggests that well-designed digital media can reduce cognitive load. The study also emphasizes the role of intrinsic motivation in learning, as described by Deci and Ryan (1985), showing that interactive digital media can enhance students' motivation.Furthermore, adapting technology to local conditions is critical in improving learning outcomes. Therefore, schools in Indonesia need to develop teacher training, adequate infrastructure, and relevant digital content to maximize the benefits of technology in education. This study proposes the implementation of digital media in SD Namira as a model that other schools can adopt to enhance students' academic achievements by integrating technology into the learning process.

Abstract

Fiqh or Islamic law is one of the most well-known fields of Islamic study among the general public. This is partly because fiqh is directly related to people's lives. From birth to death, humans are always connected to fiqh. For example, who is responsible for providing for them, who their parents are, and even when they are buried, these matters are related to fiqh. Due to its nature and function, fiqh is categorized as al-hal science, which is the science related to human behavior, and is considered a mandatory science to study, because with this knowledge, a person can fulfill their obligation to serve Allah through worship such as prayer, fasting, hajj, and so on. Furthermore, if legal science or fiqh is called idealistic, it does not mean that these legal materials themselves do not have practical considerations related to the needs of society. Islamic legal philosophy is essentially nothing more than the development and analysis of abstract Sharia law, not positive law that originates from and is sourced from court forums. Therefore, the characteristic that defines Islamic law in the sense of law that governs the lives of Muslims is the distinction between ideal teachings and factual practices, between Sharia as taught by classical legal scholars on the one hand and positive law as applied in courts on the other.
