Abstract

Indonesia implemented a nickel ore export ban policy in 2014 with the aim of maintaining sovereignty and control over natural resources, increasing the added value of nickel products, and optimally utilizing nickel wealth to improve people's welfare and strengthen the country's economy. This policy was also taken to strengthen Indonesia's bargaining position in global trade and to show independence and courage in making decisions that could provide long-term benefits for the country. From the perspective of rational choice theory, the nickel ore export ban policy is the result of considering ideological preferences, which focus on efforts to produce nickel derivative products that are processed from upstream to downstream in Indonesia which can then increase the added value of nickel products in the international market which has an impact on creating economic independence from the nickel industry. The nickel ore export ban policy also aims to strengthen Indonesia's bargaining position in international politics and global trade, especially through nickel diplomacy.

Using qualitative methods, it analyzes primary data from informants and secondary data from relevant documents. The findings reveal that the Black Campaign and the policies implemented by the EU have significantly contributed to a decline in Indonesia's CPO export volume towards the EU, caused by the damaging portrayal of Environmental issues that are not accurate and the hindrance of export growth caused by protective policies such as RED II. This research contributes to theories in international trade and offers insight for strengthening standardization and certification on of CPO in Indonesia. The implications of this study are critical for understanding the intersection of Environmental concerns and trade policies, for fairer practices in international trade that consider the realities faced by producing countries like Indonesia.

Abstract

This article examines how China’s economic diplomacy with Portugal demonstrates its global power strategy as a benign hegemon under the Great Power Style paradigm. The paper traces China’s investment trends in Portugal’s key sectors within the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) framework including energy, ports, finance, and technology using descriptive qualitative methods and literature analysis. The results show that China is not only seeking economic benefits but also creating organized and non-coercive geopolitical influence. This approach is done by providing global public goods and maintaining stable bilateral relations, thereby enhancing China’s position as a responsible great power. Portugal’s strategic location in the Atlantic and its ties to Africa help make it a key node in the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. The report finds that China’s economic diplomacy is a key component of a distinct global leadership paradigm that prioritises stability, collaboration, and economic attractiveness over military power. Abstract

Indonesia, as the world’s second-largest coconut producer, holds significant potential for exporting desiccated coconut to international markets, particularly Poland. However, Indonesia’s market share in Poland remains behind the Philippines, which dominates desiccated coconut imports. The demand for this product in Poland continues to rise, driven by trends in healthy, plant-based food consumption and traditional food processing. This study aims to analyze the potential for increasing Indonesian desiccated coconut exports to Poland and to formulate appropriate strategies to optimize this market during 2022-2024. The research employs qualitative and quantitative methods, analyzing export data within the theoretical frameworks of John Stuart Mill’s international trade theory and Porter’s Diamond Model of competitive advantage. Findings indicate significant opportunities for export growth through improvements in product quality, diversification of value-added products, and strengthening distribution networks in Poland. Indonesia needs to overcome limitations in modern processing and adopt quality standards aligned with the European Union market. In conclusion, the development of innovative products and adaptive marketing strategies are crucial to enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesian desiccated coconut exports to Poland, supporting sustainable national economic growth.

Abstract

The global halal industry continues to grow rapidly and is projected to reach more than USD 3 trillion by 2027. Indonesia, with the largest Muslim population in the world, has great potential to become a major producer and exporter of halal products. However, Indonesia's contribution to halal exports is still relatively small, only about 3% of global trade, lagging behind Malaysia, Thailand, and Brazil. Russia, as a non-Muslim country with a significant Muslim population (20–25 million people), is showing increasing demand for halal products, including food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and modest fashion. This trend is driven by the growth of halal lifestyles and the adoption of halal products by non-Muslim Russian consumers who view halal products as symbols of quality and safety. This study aims to identify obstacles and formulate strategies to increase Indonesia's halal product exports to Russia. The method used is qualitative descriptive with secondary data from government agency reports, international organisations, and academic publications. The results of the study show that the main obstacles to exports include differences in halal regulations, logistical and distribution limitations, lack of promotion and branding, and limitations in the capacity of MSMEs. The recommended strategies include product innovation and differentiation tailored to Russian consumer preferences, harmonisation of halal certification, digitalisation of promotion, strengthening of the halal value chain, bilateral economic diplomacy, and empowerment of halal SME exporters.
