Abstract

This study investigates the interplay among gastronomic tourism development, business governance, and business performance in Jambi Province, focusing on leveraging Malay cultural identity to enhance the regional gastronomy sector. Employing a quantitative methodology with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), data from 150 local gastronomy business respondents were analyzed. The findings reveal that gastronomic tourism development significantly improves business governance and performance. However, a complex negative relationship exists between rigid governance practices and business performance, indicating the need for flexible frameworks that accommodate the operational realities of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Gastronomic tourism fosters transparency, accountability, and stakeholder collaboration, driven by innovations and the preservation of Malay culinary heritage. This study highlights gastronomy as a vital cultural and economic asset, offering a model that integrates cultural preservation with governance improvements to achieve sustainable outcomes. Positioning Jambi Province as a leading gastronomic destination can catalyze economic growth and resilience. Recommendations include fostering adaptive governance models for SMEs and strengthening partnerships among policymakers, local communities, and businesses to harness the region’s full gastronomic potential. These findings provide practical insights for enhancing competitiveness and sustainability in Indonesia’s gastronomic tourism sector.

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between MSME souvenir governance and souvenir center governance in the context of supporting regional tourism in Jambi Province, Indonesia. The research addresses the challenges faced by MSME operators in accessing souvenir centers, such as limited skills, high raw material costs, and insufficient marketing knowledge, which hinder the overall tourism experience. To address these issues, this study develops a governance model based on key indicators that influence the efficiency and effectiveness of both MSME vendors and souvenir centers. The study employs a quantitative research approach, using purposive sampling to gather data from 100 MSME operators and souvenir center managers. The data is analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS software to evaluate the relationship between governance variables. The findings reveal that Product Quantity is the most influential factor in MSME souvenir governance, indicating that business actors must focus on maintaining consistent product supply. Meanwhile, Distance is the most significant indicator for souvenir center governance, highlighting the importance of strategic locations to attract customers. The study concludes that the governance practices of MSME souvenir vendors positively impact the governance of souvenir centers. This research provides valuable insights into improving governance structures in the souvenir industry, promoting better collaboration between MSME vendors and souvenir centers to support sustainable business growth.

Abstract

Traditional arts and crafts play a vital role in enhancing village tourism by attracting visitors, creating immersive cultural experiences, and contributing to economic sustainability. This study examines the impact of traditional performances and high-quality handcrafted products on tourist satisfaction and overall tourism success. Using a structured research approach, data were collected and analyzed to evaluate how arts and crafts influence tourism appeal, visitor engagement, and local economic benefits. The findings indicate that traditional arts significantly enhance visitor experiences through cultural performances, while traditional crafts reinforce destination identity by offering unique, high-quality souvenirs. Moreover, tourist satisfaction emerges as a key determinant of village tourism success, emphasizing the importance of well-managed arts and crafts initiatives. However, challenges such as financial limitations, lack of innovation, and inadequate marketing strategies hinder the full potential of these tourism assets. The study highlights the need for collaborative efforts among tourism managers, policymakers, artisans, and local communities to sustain and further develop traditional arts and crafts as integral components of village tourism. Strengthening policies, enhancing promotional strategies, and improving market accessibility are essential to ensuring long-term sustainability and economic growth in rural tourism destinations.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of local wisdom and clustering strategies on the performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Jambi Province. Using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Squares (PLS), this research analyzes data collected from SMEs to identify key factors that influence their performance. The findings reveal that local wisdom, characterized by the integration of cultural and traditional values into business practices, has a positive and significant effect on SMEs performance. Among the indicators, Traditional Craftsmanship (TK) emerges as the most dominant, highlighting its role in enhancing the uniqueness and marketability of SMEs. Similarly, clustering strategies are found to significantly improve SMEs performance, with Competitiveness (DS) identified as the most influential indicator. Clustering enables SMEs to optimize resources, foster innovation, and strengthen their market competitiveness. These results underscore the importance of leveraging both cultural heritage and organizational strategies to create sustainable and competitive SME ecosystems. The implications of this study are twofold. Theoretically, it validates the integration of cultural and structural approaches in SME development. Practically, it provides actionable insights for policymakers and stakeholders to support initiatives that promote local wisdom and cluster-based strategies.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has precipitated unprecedented uncertainty within the stock market, eliciting adverse reactions within the capital market. This environment compelled companies to engage in corporate actions. This research aimed to develop a model assessing the impact of corporate actions during the COVID-19 pandemic on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. This study employed an event study methodology to analyze corporate actions from March 1 to March 30, 2021, identifying four key actions: Stock Splits, Pre-emptive Rights (Rights Issues), Partial Delisting, and Warrants. These corporate actions influenced various metrics, including the frequency of stock returns, actual returns, stock returns, and trading volume activity. The outcomes of these actions varied, presenting differences before and after their execution. The study's findings categorize the impact of corporate actions during the pandemic into two distinct groups: insignificant and significantly negative. This research contributes to understanding the ramifications of corporate decisions during periods of heightened market volatility, specifically within the context of the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This study examines the role and impact of arisan, a widely practiced form of informal microfinance in Indonesia, in supporting micro-enterprises in Jambi City. Arisan has demonstrated significant potential to provide both financial and social benefits to its members. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and participant observations involving 100 micro-enterprise owners actively participating in arisan, using a qualitative descriptive approach. The findings reveal that most participants joined arisan due to limited access to formal credit and a preference for its trust-based, community-centered approach. Economically, arisan contributes to increased business capital and facilitates business expansion. Socially, it fosters enhanced solidarity and strengthens relationships among members. The study concludes that arisan serves as an effective alternative funding source for micro-enterprises in Jambi, addressing gaps left by formal financial institutions. However, challenges such as trust issues and limited funds require attention to optimize its effectiveness as a sustainable financing mechanism.
