Abstract

Maternal deaths in the Riau Islands Province in 2020 are still dominated by direct causes, namely hypertension in pregnancy (around 39%), known as preeclampsia and eclampsia. The Community Health Center also does not have a particular module regarding first aid in emergencies if preeclampsia or eclampsia occurs. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the Si PaPa Gasi Module (First Aid in Preeclampsia/Eclampsia emergencies) with a family approach in island areas. The research design is a quasi-experiment with a pre-posttest and control group design. The population is all pregnant women in the Berakit Health Center working area. The total sample was 47 in the intervention group and 47 in the control group. The research instrument is a questionnaire. Statistical analysis uses the computer program by looking at the increase in the average (mean) and the influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable using the t-test. The results of the Si PaPa Gasi module research were Si PaPa Gasi module could increase knowledge regarding First Aid for Preeclampsia/Eclampsia Emergencies and increase the attitudes and motivation of pregnant women to perform First Aid for Preeclampsia/Eclampsia Emergencies. Health facilities can use the PaPa Gasi module as a health education media in efforts to prevent preeclampsia and eclampsia.

Abstract

Abstract

Stunting is a critical issue that needs to be addressed. The lack of independence among rural communities, particularly pregnant women and community health cadres, in preventing anaemia and stunting, as well as the absence of a dedicated forum for such activities, highlights the need to establish the For U No Anemia No Stunting (For U NAS) forum. This community engagement program aims to form For U NAS as a measure to prevent anemia and stunting in Kampung Bugis. The methods include establishing the forum, providing health education using the Si NaNing application, modules, and healthy kitchen demonstrations, as well as conducting pre-test and post-test evaluations. The results demonstrate the successful establishment of For U NAS and a significant increase in pregnant women's knowledge about anemia and stunting after the intervention. This forum serves as a platform for education, discussion, and social support, strengthening the independence of pregnant women. In conclusion, the formation of this forum has effectively improved pregnant women's knowledge of preventing anemia and stunting. This initiative is likely to continue with the development of peer support groups to enhance education efforts in the future.

Abstract

Background: Nutritional problems among toddlers remain a public health challenge in many regions, including Indonesia. Locally-based Supplementary Feeding (PMT) is often utilized to address nutritional issues, particularly in improving toddler weight and nutritional status. Objectives: This article aims to evaluate the effectiveness of locally-based supplementary feeding in improving toddler weight and nutritional status through a literature review. Methods: This literature review applied a narrative review approach by searching articles in PubMed and Google Scholar (2015–2024). Articles were selected based on inclusion criteria, including RCTs and observational studies discussing the impact of local PMT on toddler weight and nutritional status. Study quality was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and GRADE. Data were analyzed descriptively without quantitative meta-analysis.Results: Most studies reported that local PMT effectively increased toddler weight. However, its impact on nutritional status was often insignificant within a short intervention duration. Key factors determining the success of the intervention included nutrient composition, intervention duration, and adherence level. Conclusion: Local food-based PMT is effective in improving toddler weight, although it may not significantly change nutritional status in the short term. This intervention can serve as a relevant alternative to support toddler nutrition, especially in areas with limited access to nutritious food.

Abstract

Background: Providing locally-based supplementary feeding has been proven effective in improving the health status of pregnant women and their babies while also supporting food sustainability and local economic development. Objectives: his article aims to explore the types and benefits of locally-based supplementary foods recommended during pregnancy through a literature review. Methods: This study employed a literature study design using the narrative literature review method by searching for scientific articles in the PubMed, ProQuest, and Google Scholar databases. A total of 26,194 articles were found, and 8 articles were analyzed. The article selection process followed the PRISMA standard guidelines. Articles published between 2015 and 2024 were included. The search was conducted using the keywords "local supplementary food," "pregnant women," "nutritional status," and "local PMT", then filtered based on the inclusion criteria: studies evaluating the effects of local supplementary feeding on the nutritional status of pregnant women, as well as the health status of both the mother and the newborn. Data were analyzed narratively to identify consistent findings. Results: The majority of studies show that locally-based local supplementary is effective in increasing weight gain during pregnancy, improving maternal upper arm circumference, and addressing pregnancy-related anemia Additionally, local supplementary has been shown to improve the health of newborns. However, nutrition education and counseling during pregnancy are essential to support better maternal health behaviors. Conclusion: Locally-based supplementary is effective in improving the nutritional and health status of both mothers and their babies. Moreover, it contributes to economic growth and food security.
