Abstract

The development of industries linked to population growth in Indonesia has led to increased waste production, particularly in terms of wastewater. This research examines the wastewater management system at PT. Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk (CAP), emphasizes the importance of waste treatment to prevent environmental pollution and maintain ecosystem sustainability. Through literature review methods, field studies, and the utilization of a simulation model employing Causal Loop Diagrams (CLD), this study evaluates the impact of industrial wastewater management on the environment and society. The research findings identify wastewater treatment processes at CAP, including the Neutralization Pit, Oil Separator, Dust Filter, and Dust Trap, along with regular inspections to ensure that water quality meets the established standards. Keywords: Causal Loop Diagrams, Dynamic Methods, Environmental Impact, Waste Water Quality Standards, Waste Water Treatment.

Abstract

Abstract

Production processes in the palm oil industry pose hazards and risks of occupational accidents. PT XYZ's Palm Oil Mill (POM) unit recorded 15 accident cases in 2021-2023. This study aimed to identify occupational health and safety (OHS) hazards and assess risks at each stage of CPO production at PT XYZ's POM unit using the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) method. This study involved all workers at PT XYZ's POM unit. Primary data were collected through field observations and questionnaires, while secondary data were obtained from company documents. Data analysis included descriptive analysis and risk assessment using the HIRARC method. There were significant differences in risk levels between units. The Loading Ramp had the highest risk due to the intensity of activities, work at height, and heavy equipment movement. The Sorting, Sterilizer, Thresher and Digester, Press, Clarification, and Kernel units had medium risk, while the Weighbridge had the lowest risk. Human factors were the dominant cause of occupational accidents. Risk control recommendations were formulated based on the hierarchy of controls, including elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Abstract

The presence of plastic waste in Indonesia has become increasingly alarming. Indonesia is the second-largest contributor to plastic waste globally, after China. Plastic waste falls into the category of non-biodegradable waste, requiring a long time to decompose, making it highly hazardous to the environment. Plastic products, such as plastic bags from retail business activities and the lack of public awareness regarding their use, are among the largest contributors to plastic waste in Indonesia. The main objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of Green Tax policies implemented in other countries' retail industries as a means of reducing plastic bag usage, formulate the Green Tax concept as a solution for reducing plastic bag usage in Indonesia’s retail industry, and identify the challenges and benefits it brings to the country. The research method used in this study is a literature review by analyzing articles and scholarly journals from data-based sources such as Google Scholar regarding Green Tax in efforts to reduce plastic bag usage. The results of the literature review indicate that the Green Tax concept can be implemented in Indonesia’s retail industry through a plastic bag tax, where each plastic bag used will be subject to an additional charge, with part of the revenue allocated to environmental conservation. Beyond shifting the burden onto consumers in the retail industry, the Green Tax concept also serves as a solution for reducing plastic bag usage by encouraging environmentally friendly behavior and fostering a sustainable circular economy initiative. The success of the Green Tax concept relies heavily on the crucial roles of all stakeholders, including the government, retail companies, the Indonesian Olefin and Plastic Industry Association (INAPLAS), environmental conservation organizations, and the public.
