Abstract

The safety of maritime transportation is a critical aspect that must be addressed to ensure the well-being of ships and their crew. Frequent ship accidents highlight the need for improvements in the maritime transportation system. One of the causes of ship accidents is ship instability, leading to a loss of balance and even sinking. Ship stability is influenced by both internal and external factors, including human negligence in observing and addressing ship instability. This research aims to design and create a management ballast system model that can be operated automatically as a solution to reduce ship rolling motion. This system enables the ship to maintain balance using automatic side ballast tank management by utilizing two wing tanks on either side of the ship. The ballast management system will be equipped with an accurate ship roll angle detector, the Initial Measurement Unit sensor, a microcontroller, and a series of actuators, including relays as voltage control switches for the pump motor. This research involves simulation and testing/experiments at various angles, namely 5, 10, and 15 degrees. Simulations are conducted under conditions with and without the ballast management system, which is then confirmed through experiments under the same conditions. The expected outcome of this research is that the created ballast management system can be used to reduce ship rolling.

Abstract

Permasalahan utama yang dihadapi nelayan adalah cepatnya penurunan kualitas ikan akibat suhu lingkungan yang tinggi, terutama selama proses transportasi dari kapal ke tempat pelelangan. Hal ini menyebabkan ikan mudah rusak, berbau amis, dan berkurang nilai jualnya. Untuk mengatasi masalah ini, pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan memberikan pelatihan kepada mitra mengenai pembuatan cool box, serta teknik pembuatan ice gel yang sederhana dan ekonomis. Pelatihan cool box dan ice gel ekonomis bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas hasil tangkapan nelayan yang dapat meningkatkan pendapatan mereka. Penggunaan cool box dan ice gel terbukti efektif dalam menjaga kesegaran ikan dalam waktu yang lebih lama, sehingga memungkinkan nelayan menjual produk mereka dengan harga yang lebih tinggi. Pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan memberikan pelatihan kepada mitra mengenai pembuatan cool box, serta teknik pembuatan ice gel yang sederhana dan ekonomis. Cool box dibuat berbasis cetakan kayu lalu dilapisi fiberglass pada bagian luar dalam, sedangkan Ice gel dibuat berbasis  tepung tapioka dengan bahan tambahan air, garam, dan cuka. Hasil pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa mitra yang mengikuti pelatihan mampu memahami proses pembuatan cool box dan ice gel dengan biaya yang terjangkau. Penggunaan alat pendingin buatan sendiri ini secara signifikan mengurangi tingkat kerusakan ikan selama proses distribusi, sehingga meningkatkan volume penjualan dan pendapatan nelayan. Selain itu, pelatihan ini juga memberikan pemahaman kepada mitra tentang pentingnya menjaga kualitas hasil tangkapan sejak proses penangkapan hingga pemasaran. Dengan demikian, diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kesejahteraan nelayan dan mendorong pengembangan sektor perikanan.

Abstract

Industrial revolution 4.0 era represents a paradigm shift in manufacturing and technology, which is characterized by an integrated and interconnected system to support the operation of an industry. Many countries contributed to this era, including Indonesia. As a maritime country, maritime-related products have the potential to be offered. Remotely operated vehicles (ROV) is a form of digitalization product that is frequently used to support the operation of the maritime industry. Therefore, ROV is manufactured locally to provide easier access to industries demanding ROV. Digital manufacturing for ROV can bring further contributions towards industrial revolution 4.0, which involves the usage of digital technologies such as computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics to create an integrated manufacturing system. Furthermore, digital manufacturing information system provides real-time information during the manufacturing process. According to this study, digital manufacturing can significantly improve the efficiency and integration in manufacturing the ROV.
