Abstract

Adolescent girls are a vulnerable group who can experience anemia due to low consumption and absorption of iron, blood loss during menstruation, and increased iron requirements. Anemia can cause impaired growth and health status as well as decreasing academic performance and cognitive development. Education regarding nutrition and screening for adolescent girls is an appropriate, effective, and sustainable method for preventing anemia due to iron deficiency. Therefore, in this community service activity, a combination of education and screening is carried out to prevent the development of anemia in adolescent girls at MTs Nurul Falah Areman. The community service was carried out using the lecture method and filling out a questionnaire in the form of a pretest and post-test to assess the increase in knowledge consisting of 20 multiple choice questions. The result obtained from 53 students showed that 52,8% had good knowledge regarding anemia and 47,2% had poor knowledge. Based on an examination of Hb levels, 25% of adolescent girls fall into the category of moderate and mild anemia. Education regarding anemia should be carried out routinely at MTs Nurul Falah Areman. Furthermore, MTs Nurul Falah Areman can be a target for blood supplement tablets from the nearest Community Health Center, so that in the future no more young women will be found suffering from anemia.

Abstract

Background: Monkeypox (Mpox) was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO), and the first case in Indonesia was reported in 2022. Subsequently, there has been a significant increase in cases in 2023. Although global research on Mpox has expanded, particularly in regions like Europe and the Americas, there is a lack of studies focusing on the epidemiology and risk factors of Mpox in Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia. Objective: This study aimed to identify risk factors for the outbreak of Mpox in Indonesia. Methods: This study uses a case-control design method with purposive sampling. The study population was all people recorded in the Mpox screening system in Indonesia. All samples originated from the Mpox surveillance report for the Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia. The sample size was calculated using the Lemeshow formula with a 1:2 ratio. The total sample was 371 divided into 82 cases and 289 control groups. Results: The average age of participants was 30 years and most cases (96.3%) were male. Multivariate analysis revealed that individuals identifying as bisexual had a 10.8 times higher risk (OR: 10.87, 95% CI: 2.950–39.952) of contracting Mpox, and those identifying as gay had a 3.9 times higher risk (OR: 3.96, 95% CI: 1.238–12.671) compared to heterosexuals. Conclusion: This study concluded that sexual orientation was a significant risk factor in the incidence of Mpox in Indonesia. It is important to increase the uptake of Mpox vaccination among high-risk groups such as gays, bisexuals, and those in close contact with them. Up to that year, the STBM area had not yet been reached in the entire city of Depok. This indicated that STBM issues were still a priority that needed to be addressed with appropriate solutions. One effort to improve STBM achievements was by providing training related to STBM understanding. The objective of this activity was to provide triggering training in STBM activities to youth groups (karang taruna). The method used in this community service was delivering material through lectures and practical sessions, followed by discussions and Q&A sessions. The empowerment of youth through this activity showed success, with a 12% statistically significant increase in the knowledge of both the youth and cadres. The knowledge gained by the youth groups and cadres through this outreach could serve as a foundation for preventing environmentally related infectious diseases and enhancing STBM achievements in their areas. The local government is expected to support youth activities so that STBM achievements can be reached through the empowerment of youth cadres. Keyword: Environment-based diseases, Sanitation Total Based on Community, Youth Empowerment
