Abstract

Language is employed in building human interaction, especially in class-stratified situations. Language is examined as a form of class manipulation through speech style and politeness strategy in Parasite (2019). Theory can categorize speech and politeness, but their employment tactically is likely to differ in real-life situations as well as in narrative. The way people speak in different social settings has long been a focus in areas like pragmatics and sociolinguistics, and Parasite offers a rich example of how language reflects deeper social structures. Drawing on Martin Joos’s speech style theory and Brown and Levinson’s politeness theory, the results recognize that the Kim family employs a formal and consultative style to claim social legitimacy and that intimate speech achieves emotional bonding. They also employ positive politeness for rapport-building, negative politeness for expressing deference, and bald-on-record or off-record strategies to achieve control and hide agendas. In general, the study reaffirms that language in Parasite is a tactical instrument of class mobility, manipulation, and social scheming

Abstract

This study looks at how gender inequality and power imbalances in romantic relationships are shown in Taylor Swift's songs "Dear John" and "All Too Well." This research uses two theories, Raewyn Connell's Theory of Hegemonic Masculinity and Sylvia Walby's Theory of Patriarchy, to analyze the lyrics of these songs. The findings show how traditional ideas of masculinity, like emotional detachment and control, can lead to unfair relationships. The analysis also shows how patriarchy works, including emotional manipulation, male violence (both emotional and psychological), and the cultural acceptance of male dominance. These ideas are shown in the songs' narratives. The conclusion shows how Swift's lyrics strongly comment on the common issues of gender inequality and power imbalance in personal relationships. They challenge traditional ideas of male power and express the experience of women in these situations

Abstract

This research discusses the psychological condition experienced by Kim Ji Young and how her husband's role in supporting her mental recovery process. This research uses three theories, namely Cognitive Theory by Aaron T. Beck, Emotional Support Theory by Shelley E. Taylor, and Theory of Personal Growth by Abraham Maslow. The method used is a qualitative descriptive approach, by analyzing several important scenes in the film Kim Ji Young: Born 1982. The results show that Kim experiences great inner pressure because she must carry out many roles at once as a mother, wife, and daughter-in-law, but does not get enough emotional support. This makes Kim feel depressed, confused, and sometimes even feel that she cannot control herself or does not recognize what she is doing. In addition, Kim also often blames herself and imagines bad things that are not necessarily happening. On the other hand, her husband tries to be a good listener, give her space, and keep learning to be better. Although not perfect, he seems to have the intention and effort to grow with Kim. This research shows that in domestic relationships, a sense of security and emotional support is very important so that each of us can develop and be mentally healthy.
