Abstract

The access of urban communities to fresh, healthy, and affordable food, especially amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, is difficult to fulfill. One of the efforts that can be undertaken to address this issue is by establishing urban farming. Urban farming not only fulfills the need for healthy, fresh, and inexpensive food but also has the potential to generate income for families (communities). Many urban residents still have not utilized their home gardens or communal areas by utilizing organic waste. Ambar Telaga Residence 1, Bogor Regency, West Java is one residential complex with the potential to use organic waste. The objective of this community service initiative is to establish urban farming (Community Garden) to support the food security of the community. The target audience (partners) for this community service activity are the residents of Perumahan Ambar Telaga Residence 1, Rw. 011, Rancabungur Village, Rancabungur District, Bogor Regency, West Java. This activity is implemented through the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach. The activity is carried out in several stages, including problem identification and program determination, implementation, observation, and evaluation. The results of this activity discovered that 16 seeds were planted on the site, with varying effects. Seven seedlings are in good growing condition, six are developing leaves, and three are not.

Abstract

The number of hotels and restaurants in Bogor City has increased annually. According to the Bogor City Tourism and Culture Office (2018), the number of hotels rose from 53 units in 2016 to 87 units, while restaurants increased from 162 units to 680 units. This growth leads to higher CO2 emissions, while green open spaces remain static. This study aims to estimate CO2 emissions from the hotel and restaurant industry using the TIER-1 method, determine the urban park land needed to absorb these emissions using a quantitative descriptive approach, estimate the CO2 emission tax value based on the cost of creating urban parks, and propose alternative policy implications for emission tax implementation using a qualitative descriptive approach. The results indicate that hotels in Bogor City produce 3221 tons of CO2 per year, and restaurants produce 9583 tons per year. The current green open spaces are insufficient to absorb these emissions, necessitating additional urban park land. Specifically, the hotel industry requires 57 hectares of city park, and the restaurant industry requires 167 hectares. Funding for the development of these parks is to be sourced from emission taxes levied on hotels and restaurants. The proposed emission tax is Rp 3415 per room per night for hotels and Rp 239 per transaction for restaurants.

Abstract

Rice fields, which are cultivated with rice and produce rice, are a highly important food commodity for humans. Approximately 85% of the Indonesian population consumes rice as their staple food. The rice production in Sugihwaras Village, Candi Sub-district, Sidoarjo Regency, plays a crucial role in ensuring the availability of rice and improving the well-being of farmers. However, fluctuations in rice production and the decreasing agricultural land pose challenges for the farmers. This research aims to analyze strategies to increase paddy rice production in Sugihwaras Village, Candi District, Sidoarjo Regency. The analysis is conducted using the Internal-External (IE) matrix, which involves evaluating internal and external factors that influence paddy rice production. The internal factors evaluated include strengths and weaknesses, while the external factors encompass opportunities and threats. Based on the analysis results, several strategies are recommended to enhance paddy rice production in Sugihwaras Village. The recommended strategies include: strengthening farmers' skills and knowledge, optimizing land utilization and irrigation channels, improving accessibility and infrastructure, establishing and enhancing farmer groups, obtaining technical assistance, strengthening government support, and addressing challenges such as climate change. Then in the future, sustainable implementation of these strategies can improve paddy rice commodity production in Sugihwaras Village, provide economic benefits to farmers, and enhance the welfare of the local community. This research contributes to the development of agricultural commodity production enhancement strategies and can serve as a reference for relevant stakeholders in decision-making. Abstract

Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, holds immense potential to lead the global halal sector. Efforts to accelerate halal certification, particularly in the food, beverage, and cosmetics industries, have yielded positive outcomes. By mid-2023, 38,480 products had obtained halal certification, driven by initiatives like the Free Halal Certification (Sehati) program and national campaigns. Halal certification not only serves as a legal requirement but also enhances product competitiveness in domestic and international markets. However, despite the projected global halal market size of USD 2.3 trillion by 2024, Indonesia's contribution remains relatively small compared to countries like Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates. This study investigates the correlation between halal certification issuance and export value, revealing a weak negative correlation, with the export value of halal products declining in 2023 due to global economic challenges. The findings underscore the importance of addressing external factors and adopting a comprehensive approach, involving both government and businesses, to enhance Indonesia's halal export performance and ensure long-term growth.
