Abstract

This community service aims to increase the understanding and awareness of the community, especially students and teachers at 'MIN Satu Kota Palangkaraya' School, about the dangers of spreading hoaxes as well as strategies to identify and deal with them. Hoaxes or false information are increasingly becoming a troubling threat with their ability to spread rapidly through social media and other digital platforms. Through a series of activities such as workshops and discussions, participants will be given an in-depth understanding of the importance of verifying information before disseminating it. In addition, they will also be equipped with critical skills to analyze the content they encounter online. Thus, it is hoped that the community, especially the younger generation who are active users of social media, will become more vigilant and responsible in disseminating information, and be able to distinguish between valid information and hoaxes. By involving schools as the center of education, the project also aims to strengthen digital literacy among students and teachers. As such, they will become effective in combating the spread of hoaxes, and help create a safer online environment filled with accurate and useful information.

Abstract

Since its independence, Indonesia has declared itself a state governed by law, as stated in the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. This noble ideal asserts that Indonesia is a state based on the rule of law, not merely power. However, the journey to realizing this ideal is fraught with challenges. Law enforcement in Indonesia faces serious issues such as weak rule of law, lack of accountability among law enforcers, low legal awareness among the public, and an inefficient judicial system. These problems lead to negative public perceptions of law enforcement in Indonesia. The public often sees law enforcement as unjust, with laws frequently "weak on the powerful and harsh on the powerless," where those in power often escape legal consequences while the underprivileged are easily punished. Additionally, the professionalism and integrity of law enforcement officials are often questioned, further tarnishing the image of law enforcement. This negative perception has severe implications for the stability and security of the nation, fostering public distrust that can lead to criminal and anarchic actions. addressing these issues requires continuous and comprehensive efforts involving all elements of the nation. The government needs to enhance transparency and accountability in law enforcement processes and enforce laws fairly and indiscriminately. The public also needs to actively supervise and criticize the performance of law enforcers. Surveys indicate that the majority of Indonesians have high hopes for the enforcement of laws in Indonesia, despite existing doubts and dissatisfaction with the slow and convoluted judicial process and the professionalism of law enforcers. The majority of respondents also acknowledge that corruption remains a serious issue requiring primary attention.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of Aaron O’Brien's educational content on social media in enhancing English vocabulary acquisition among EFL students. In the digital age, social media platforms have become valuable tools for language learning, offering students engaging and interactive ways to learn new vocabulary. The research used a quantitative survey method with a five-point Likert scale to assess students' perceptions of O’Brien's content. The survey, administered to 31 students, revealed that most participants found the content relevant and beneficial for learning vocabulary. The contextual approach used by O’Brien helped improve students' vocabulary retention. However, challenges in maintaining consistent engagement with the content were also noted, with factors like time management and distractions affecting students' motivation. Despite these challenges, the findings suggest that social media content, when integrated with formal educational settings, can enhance students' language learning experience. The study recommends exploring motivational strategies such as gamification or incentives to encourage regular interaction with educational content. Overall, the results indicate that educational content on social media, like that provided by O’Brien, has significant potential to support traditional language learning methods and improve vocabulary acquisition.

Abstract

In the context of a globalized economy, strong communication abilities, particularly speaking skills in English, are vital for marketing professionals to effectively engage in international business. This study examines the development of an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course aimed at enhancing speaking proficiency among marketing professionals. A thorough needs analysis was conducted through surveys and interviews with industry experts to pinpoint essential speaking competencies needed in marketing scenarios, such as presentations, negotiations, and client communications. The course structure combines theoretical aspects of business communication with practical exercises, including role-plays, simulations, and peer feedback, equipping learners with the skills necessary for effective verbal interaction. It also focuses on real-life applications to ensure that participants can readily apply their skills in their work environment. The course's effectiveness was assessed through pre- and post-course evaluations, which demonstrated marked improvements in participants' speaking abilities and self-confidence. This research highlights the significance of specialized language training for the professional growth of marketing experts and emphasizes the necessity for continued exploration in the ESP domain to adapt to the changing landscape of global business communication.
