Abstract

Traditional fish processing industries in Muara Angke Jakarta have been involving many labor from the local fishermen or others. This study describes the contributions of many small industry to the labor incomes based on every small industry profit distribution. Survey method had been applied to collect the data. The population are all small traditional fish processing industries in Muara Angke. The samples are chosen based on their product, either salty fish or smoked fish. “Hayami method” was applied to calculate the added value of each small industry. The results of this study shows that salty squid has the highest value added (Rp2167,61/kg) and highest profits (Rp2072,61/kg), Indian mackerel smoked fish gives the highest contributions to labor incomes (Rp663,36/kg). Sardinella salty fish gives the highest profit level, followed by salty squid and salty mackerel scad. Salty stingray and salty Indian mackerel gives high value for labor return. In addition, salty sardinella, salty squid, and salty “lesi” fish have high added value ratio. Salty stingray gives the highest other input contribution, followed by smoked Indian mackerel.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the missions of Universitas Terbuka (UT) as a distance education institution is ensuring high academic quality in all aspects of educational management. The ultimate goal is to produce a good quality of graduates for every study program in the institution, this includes Agriculture Extension study program as one of the study program at UT also concerns to produce high quality graduates. Several modifications had been made for delivering a comprehensive examination for Agricultural Extension students in 2005.2.which includes conducting face to face tutorials, providing tutors for assisting students in writing final paper, and conducting assessment evaluation for the written examinations. Comprehensive examination is the ultimate requirements for every students and it is assigned in the end of their study. This article was written based on the portrait of the comprehensive examination mechanism during 2005.2 period. To control the quality Study Program took certain measures which includes by conducting monitoring and evaluating the comprehensive examination in certain regional centres, verification assessment of student final paper submitted by tutor for each regional centre, and conducting assessment evaluation for the written examination by academic staff in the study program using continous ‘running belt’ system

Abstract

Identifying factors affecting students’ success is important. This is a study on creativity of biology students to solve their learning problem. The participants are biology students at Universitas Terbuka (UT), the only single mode distance learning university in Indonesia. conducting online tutorial in introductory biology. Descriptive and bivariate correlation statistics data are collected, including one dependent variable about improvement of problem-solving skill and six independent variables. The six independent variables are problem identification, information searching, idea generation, analogy, integrating different concepts, and idea testing. Demographic data are age, gender, and length of daily online activities. There are 73 students returned the survey with 23.4% response rate. Most students (more than 60%) agree to some extent in all the variables. There are different levels of agreement about the use of online tutorial regarding gender, age and length of daily online activities. There are only two out of six independent variables that have significant correlation (0.05 significance level, two-tailed) with improvement of problem-solving skill, which are analogy and idea testing. Keywords: creativity, biology, problem-solving, distance learning, online learning
