Abstract

Abstract

In this paper, I explore the philosophical ideas of Karol Wojtyla, focusing on his anthropology rooted in personalism. Wojtyla emphasized the interconnectedness of individuals, drawing attention to themes like participation, solidarity, and self-giving. His philosophy underscores the complexity of the human person and their inherent relational nature. I analyze his thoughts on the experience of actions and events, the relationship between person and action, and the person's transcendence through truth and self-gift. This study highlights the inherent dignity of each individual and argues that Wojtyla’s philosophy offers a coherent personalist perspective that merits further exploration.

Abstract

This study examines the pedagogical principles embedded in the thought of Thomas Aquinas through an anthropological lens, emphasizing their relevance to contemporary education. Grounded in Aquinas's theological anthropology and metaphysical realism, the paper explores three key dimensions: (1) the human learner as a rational and volitional being oriented toward truth and virtue ; (2) the teacher’s role as a facilitator of knowledge rather than its cause ; and (3) the relational and dialogical nature of education as a path to moral and intellectual formation (Torrell; Pieper). Aquinas’s epistemology, which integrates sensory experience with intellectual abstraction, supports a constructivist approach to learning, while his emphasis on disputatio fosters critical inquiry. The study argues that Aquinas’s holistic model—uniting truth-seeking, virtue cultivation, and relational pedagogy—offers a robust alternative to reductionist educational paradigms, addressing modern challenges such as moral relativism and dehumanized instruction. Ultimately, his vision reaffirms education as a transformative journey toward wisdom and beatitude.

Abstract

This article explores Pierre Abelard’s ethics of intention (intentio and consensus) and its relevance for interfaith moral agency in contemporary Indonesia. While much of medieval ethics emphasized external law and ritual compliance, Abelard placed the moral weight on inner disposition of the will. Such a framework allows ethical recognition beyond confessional boundaries, affirming that individuals outside the Christian faith may act morally through natural law (lex naturalis). Using philosophical hermeneutics inspired by Gadamer and Ricoeur, the study engages Abelard’s Scito te ipsum, Collationes, and Commentaria in Romanos, alongside Indonesian debates on moderasi beragama and the works of Nurcholish Madjid and Yudi Latif. The findings reveal that Abelard’s emphasis on intention aligns with Indonesian concepts of civil religion and shared humanity, while also highlighting tensions with theological exclusivism. The conclusion argues that Abelard’s ethics can serve as a conceptual bridge between particular religious identities and universal values, enriching moral education, interfaith dialogue, and policy on religious moderation.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the foundations of religious authority and ethical formation in contemporary societies. This study examines how algorithmic systems—such as chatbots, recommendation algorithms, and AI-generated sermons—reshape religious legitimacy and moral discourse. Employing a conceptual–philosophical approach grounded in personalist realism, the research integrates theological anthropology with normative policy analysis to assess the ethical implications of AI in religious life. The findings indicate that AI shifts religious authority from institutional mediation toward algorithmic visibility and data-driven influence. While this transformation democratizes access to religious knowledge, it also fragments theological coherence and weakens interpretive accountability. A central moral paradox emerges: increased participation in religious discourse coexists with diminished spiritual depth and responsibility. Ethical concerns arise from distributed agency, opaque algorithmic processes, and the reduction of human dignity to data-based representations. The study argues that prevailing regulatory frameworks, which focus primarily on technical governance and risk mitigation, are insufficient to address the deeper moral challenges posed by AI in religious contexts. It therefore proposes a shift toward a transcendental policy framework that conceives governance as moral praxis oriented toward truth, responsibility, and human flourishing. Policy recommendations include the development of a Religious Digital Ethics Framework, the establishment of a Digital Religious Ethics Council, and the integration of interfaith digital ethics education. The study concludes that religious policy must be grounded in the principle of imago Dei, ensuring that technological innovation remains subordinate to human dignity and humanity’s spiritual vocation.

Abstract

The crisis of relativism, post-truth, and the weak rationality of faith among the young generation of Catholics in Indonesia, especially in the Kupang Archdiocese, demands a new approach in Catholic religious education. This article offers a revitalization of scholastic philosophy, particularly the dialectical method of Saint Thomas Aquinas, as a framework for culturally and spiritually relevant, contextually grounded catechesis. This study employs a qualitative literature review approach, drawing on scholastic traditions, Church documents, and national Catholic religious education policies. The results of the study show that the scholastic method—with a quaestio–obiectio–responsio–ad obiecta pattern—can be inculcated in religious learning in formal schools through critical dialogue, faith reflection, and the use of local cultural symbols. The main contribution of this article is the offer of a scholastic–contextual integrative model that unites the intellectual tradition of the Church with contemporary pedagogical needs. The implications of this research include the need to train PAK teachers as reflective catechists, so that the scholastic tradition is not only a historical heritage, but also a living tradition that forms a reasoned faith.

Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of “blurred faith” among young people in the digital era, where belief often remains declarative but detached from communal participation and relational depth. Drawing on international and Indonesian research, the analysis highlights three expressions of blurred faith: declaration without participation, emotion without doctrinal depth, and moral privatization. Using a personalist framework inspired by Karol Wojtyła, Thomas Aquinas, and Emmanuel Lévinas, the study interprets blurred faith not merely as a decline in religiosity but as a relational crisis—a rupture of the I–Thou encounter with God and others. The paper argues that blurred faith is intensified by digital culture, which favors immediacy and emotional consumption over commitment and solidarity. By situating this phenomenon in the Indonesian context, the study emphasizes the role of local communal values such as gotong royong as a philosophical corrective. The findings point toward the need for personalistic criteria in religious education and pastoral practice to restore faith as a living relational reality.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the juridical and philosophical foundations of ecclesiastical authority in the establishment of public juridic persons (erectio canonica) within the Catholic Church. Using a normative–conceptual approach grounded in natural law theory and canon law, it argues that ecclesiastical authority derives its legitimacy not merely from institutional power but from moral rationality rooted in munus regendi, the pastoral office of governing in Christ’s name. The study finds that erectio canonica functions as both a legal and theological act, ensuring that Catholic institutions act in nomine Ecclesiae and maintain fidelity to the Church’s salvific mission. In Indonesia, harmonizing canon law and civil law remains essential to secure both legal validity and ecclesial legitimacy. The research concludes that genuine ecclesiastical authority integrates legality, morality, and pastoral mission toward the bonum commune ecclesiae.

Abstract

In the post-truth era, Christian witness faces an acute epistemological crisis caused by digital disinformation, emotional manipulation, and populist rhetoric. This study proposes Martyria Digitalis as an original theological framework for rethinking Catholic witness within digital culture. Rather than viewing testimony as a purely personal expression of faith, this model interprets it as a public, prophetic act of resistance against systemic falsehood. Employing a systematic theological approach in dialogue with digital communication phenomena and anti-Catholic narratives, the research identifies five core characteristics of Martyria Digitalis: epistemic courage to confront relativism, perseverance in defending truth amid unpopularity, sensitivity to the narrative dynamics of social media, performative humility that rejects false piety, and prophetic consistency as a marker of integrity. These findings yield significant pastoral implications, including the urgency of integrating digital formation into catechesis, fostering media discernment skills, and developing Church communication strategies rooted in truth and compassion. Ultimately, Martyria Digitalis offers a relevant and contextually grounded paradigm for Catholic witness, equipping believers to engage critically and faithfully in contemporary digital culture.
